For everybody who's been asking to use this, here's the repository link: github.com/thcrock/line-music-visualizer And here's a video explaining the process in more detail, and applying it to a more upbeat track: th-cam.com/video/wc9CAJdlOlk/w-d-xo.html It's a Godot 4 project. The code isn't in good shape to reproduce the visualization you see here; an earlier commit is close, but I kept on making changes so the main branch looks very different. I'll be making updates to this to bring back this visualization and add instructions how to use it. So you can follow/bookmark that repository until then.
What were you trying to do? I am going to try to port it to python as the current flawed instance… but if you don’t have it fixed yet I can attempt to clean up the code.
Thanks! Yeah the more I look at it the more I like it. At first I thought the width changes looked random but now it almost looks like it's flowing through
I accidentally watched this first without sound and thought it was weird until I realized. It gives off a very organic pulsing effect without context, like a vein. Great stuff
Yeah I think it ends up looking better than random widths/pulsing because of the way the math error came about. I tried to keep the width curve of the line static as new line segments get introduced, but instead the width 'shifted' a bit, which kind of makes it look like something is flowing through the line. I never would have come up with that idea by myself
@@OTisnochOT Sure! I'll work on that. I may not be able to pinpoint why it works exactly this way, as I'm still not sure what is wrong with the math. But I can at least talk about how it got to that point.
I think I missed that game! I had a PSX back then but the only rhythm game I played on it was Parappa. I have been thinking this could be connected to a physics engine. Imagine launching stuff from off of the waves...it probably wouldn't be that fun in practice though.
@@warbirdtime maybe you can make it so that you have a limit supply of wave lines, and you can place them around, and you can draw waves on them and when you connect these lines together you get to choose if the wave adds, subtracts or multiply together and then there's an object you need to move to a specific place using the waves and you can press play and watch the waves run along the lines and interact with one another but i don't know if there's a game that has done that already ( also i kinda missed both i didn't have a play staetshung and i played vib-ribbon with an emulator )

imagine this, you start a text-based indie game. this is the opening cutscene before your mom wakes you up for breakfast. "And, that's just who I am. a person who either will find a way... or make one. but, in the meantime--" "honey! breakfast!" "I'm a kid. but, my mom says adolescence was the time to be yourself; before middle school crushes you into this bubble. but, i guess my bubble popped."
Thanks. It's fun to see how music hits different people; I didn't have any of those songs in mind (or any vocal music), but was trying to write something that felt cold and mystical but also a bit cozy. I suppose Black Hole Sun does kind of make me feel that way a bit. Anyway I have the full version on an unlisted SoundCloud track; I'm not going to release it until I can get live instruments for all of the parts, but you can hear what the rest of it sounds like for now: on.soundcloud.com/kKpHVmV2wteUgLtC6
Thanks! That's a tune I wrote as part of a suite I'm making right now. I do have a video of an early version (all VST) full track here: th-cam.com/video/fcMD7MOqIag/w-d-xo.html This visualizer video actually contains the first live instruments on the track; Brett McDonald recorded live clarinet, and I intend to replace the rest of the VST tracks with live instruments in the future.
Thank you! I put a link in the pinned comment. It's not really easy for anybody else to use at the moment but I'll get it cleaned up and easy to use soon
It's called Village of the Winter Moon, a piece I've been writing. A full version of the track (in VST form) is here: th-cam.com/video/fcMD7MOqIag/w-d-xo.htmlsi=07svdhw7J2vyYjnw Independently of this visualizer project, I'm working on getting it recorded and properly released. But I figured it was a good track for the visualizer because there's lots of rests to test the impact of different instruments coming in.

Looks like ink flowing out on a paper, very nice
It looks straight out of a film, love it

I love working on projects like visualizers or shaders, cause when you mess up the result is willddd. This is really cool, thank you!
Yeah the results can get pretty bizarre. Maybe in the future I should get a true blooper reel going.

Can you please explain the Math behind it, maybe in an extra video???

would like to see it with a bit more action packed music.
