I have an Lb7 duramax which has the issue of injectors getting dirty fast. So I actually fill the fuel filter (not the water filter) with fuel injector cleaner and let that idle thru for about 5 mins. Replaced my injectors about a year ago at 200,000 miles and don’t want to have to do that again anytime soon.

Crack the filter loose and turn the key over some fuel will come out but be ready and spin it back tight
Do they need to be full of fuel prior to installing?
No, leave one a little lose when you first turn the key and it will purge the air but be ready to spin it tight
