    The Oscars used to be far more elitist... never actually awarding popular films anything. And that is absolutely the way it should be. It should not reward the infantilism of American films. It should return to its roots -- being above the fray, and alienating the common moviegoer. That is what made them special and worth winning.

    • @CallMeChato
      @CallMeChato  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But that's why the 'English Patient' virus helped kill the oscars. It's a popularity contest. If there is nothing popular that people have watched no one will watch the Oscars. It's a Catch 22.

    • @Attmay
      @Attmay ปีที่แล้ว

      Every Miramax Oscar win is suspect, but the only reason that one gets singled out is more than the others is because of how much Elaine hated it on *Seinfeld.*
      The battle of *Forrest Gump* vs. *Pulp Fiction* was a battle between freaks and normies. Normies won. The victory turned out to be pyrrhic when Harvey Weinstein turned up the sleaze dial to 11 and those quote for your consideration“ campaigns into overdrive, and with Disney’s money, Hollywood fell under the mouse’s spell, like Mowgli in *The Jungle Book* when Kaa tried to hypnotize him. The next time a Tom Hanks movie was nominated for best picture, it lost to a Miramax movie about the mating habits of the bard. Now that the feds have gotten medieval on Harvey Weinstein‘s ass, he’s finding out the hard way that life isn’t always like a box of chocolates. He deserved everything he got, and then some.

    Ryan Gosling got his nomination purely on merit. The screenplay didn’t help him, the direction didn’t help him, even the marketing didn’t help him. He sang a song that was supposed to be a joke and made it a hit. Rarely has an actor been able to build more with the broken sticks they gave him.
