This week we get to discover for the first time Korean Bands / KPOP Bands. I have to be completely honest this is one of my favourite podcasts ever, the quality of music and the listening to some of these guys like LUCY, CNBLUE and FT ISLAND for the first time was nothing but magical!

You should go to concert FNC Kingdom this December in Japan. The bands will perform is FTISLAND, cnblue, NFlying.

I definitely recommend watching Yonghwa (cnblue) and Hongki's (ftisland) live performance at FNC Kingdom 2017. They perform 2 songs from the drama they were in titled 'You're Beautiful', where they're members of the band A.N.Jell. Their vocals are amazing, and yonghwa's embarrassed laughter makes it all the more wholesome.
Please do a special on FTIsland! Lee Hong Gi is one of the best vocalists I have heard.
LUCY is great, almost all of their songs are self-produced...
if you want to hear more their songs, i would recommend "SNOOZE", the violin solo part is a chef kiss!!!

HECK YEAH CNBLUE! I've seen them live multiple times as one of my OG K bands, they slay every single time! 💯🔥
Day6 update:
1. Sungjin - leader, ryhthm guitar, will be discharged this Sep 7. He went on hiatus with Jae in 2020 and left for the military within his hiatus but he did join ot5 with their last EP, Negentropy in 2021. Says he'll gather all 5 of them after they're all done with their military and solo stuff.
2. Jae - lead guitar, left JYPE in Dec 31, 2021. Releasing solo stuff. One single out so far but he performed new songs in HITC LA this year. Those songs will be part of an upcoming album. Also streams on Twitch. Says that he's not part of Day6 "for now" whatever that means. He still lowkey promoted Day6 during streams so people are hopeful for a reunion.
3. Young K - bassist, part of Even of Day subunit, main lyricist (there's a misconception that he's the mastermind to all their music but he's mostly in charge of lyrics and they all compose together or as pairs. still a genius in his own right tho.) Released an album called Eternal before he enlisted. Expected to discharge in Apr 2023
4. Wonpil - keyboardist, part of Even of Day subunit, been in webdramas and musicals, released a solo album before enlisting called Pilmography, expected to discharge Nov 2023
5. Dowoon - drummer, maknae, part of Even of Day subunit, released a single called Out of the Blue with Song Hee Jin before enlisting, expected to discharge on Jul 2023
Technically, Jae is the only one active as of this date as an indie solo act.
Onewe! They are an excellent band: great musicians who make a perfect blend of rock (sometimes more alternative, other times hard hitting) and pop/ballad.
If you`re willing to know more, I strongly recommend their discography, especially Regulus, Parting, A Book in Memory, Aurora, Universe_ and Montage_ (songs with MVs).
It's so good and refreshing to see more reactions to K-Bands since they always sing live in their performances (and instruments in some shows) !
Also, Lee Hong Ki has one of the unique voices in Korean music industry like I can tell easily that he's the one singing.
Hopefully, you'll be able to react to more K-Bands like TraxX (band from SM) , Royal Pirates, Bursters, Led Apple because all of them deserves to be recognized too; and of course more of N.Flying!!!
Please do a reaction on CNBLUE more. Since you guys like the vocalist Yong Hwa, he have his solo album too and it might kill you. His voice is A-mazing

Rolling Quartz is a korean girl band. They have done some covers, including to a Dreamcatcher song

You're missing Nflying here !! Juniors of FTIsland. They have wide cover on the YT. Great content for you. They covered western, Japanese etc. Some of their best covers were Into the Unknown - Frozen, Queens medley, there's also MJ medleys.

theybreleased an album recently called Hello World. if you could check it out. its SOOO GOOD. AND THERES LIVE PERFORMANCES OF ALL THE SONGS
46:45 There was quite a number of female-fronted or bands with female members in the PH in the 90's and 2000's (Color It Red, Kitchie Nadal, Barbie's Cradle, Hungry Young Poets, and less-known all-female bands like Fatal Posporos). The more current OPM bands with female members that I know of are Ben&Ben (bassist, keyboardist, drummer, and percussionist/lead vocalist are female) and pop-soul duo Leanne and Naara.
Also, both Lucy and N.Flying performed with SB19 at the ROUND Festival 2021! You might want to check out their live performances on the official ROUND Festival channel, along with other amazing Southeast Asian and Korean artists who performed there.

Not enough people talking about LUCY and XDINARY HEROES for my liking, lemme fix that…
LUCY is a band with a top tier violinist Shin Yechan, insane bassist Choi Wonsang(producer), excellent drummer/ sub vocal Shin Gwangil(youngest), and genius main vocal Choi Sangyeop. They are mainly self produced/composed band with an extremely unique sound that deserve lots of praise and recognition for their talents, some recommendations: The knight who can’t die and the silk cradle, Ending, and Boogie Man.
As for Xdinary Heroes they are composed of 6 members ranging from the youngest and passionate vocal/bassist Jooyeon, a boy who loves the guitar more than anything Junhan, the rapper/vocal/electric guitarist Gaon, slick synthesizer O.de (Oh Seungmin), stellar vocal and keyboardist Jungsu, and their Berkley drum major and leader Gunil. This band is one I quickly fell in love with having an unprecedented amount of growth and talent in music, some recommendations: PLUTO, until the end of time, and Dreaming Girl.
One of my favorite k-band The Rose. Their music is really great and I super love all of their songs🌹🖤

They are more like "underground" but actually in that scene, they are one of a kind.
On the contrary, FT Island and CNBLUE are on mainstream scene. Both of them swept the chart for a long time. every korean music listeners know these group.

Fun fact: Lee Hong-ki (FT Island vocalist) and Jung Yong-hwa (CNBlue vocalist) acted together in the kdrama You're beautiful (yes, they do not only have gorgeous voices, they are also amazing actors!).
Thanks to that drama and its ost, I discovered the kpop and kband world, I owe it to them 🙏

Lee Hong Ki is amazing... ftisland!!! Yes they are three members but they are still amazing, check paradise same day.
I love Lee Hong Gi's voice. Please check more FTIsland. Hong Gi has Solos and OST's too. He can sing many genres.
Lee Hong Ki of FT Island has to be one of my all time favorite vocalists! He's just stupid good and an absolute legend and inspired a ton of current day main vocalists in Kpop. Personally when I think of Kpop bands I think of FT Island.
Also Korean has a really amazing rock scene going back years and years totally independent of Kpop that has some INCREDIBLE sounds. Rock has it's own certain flare in each country and Korea's is like this cool cross between Japanese and British pop rock with a ton of emphasis on incredible vocals

Lee Hongki has one of my favorite voices in kPop! I first discovered him in the drama “You’re Beautiful” which had a fun soundtrack and that eventually led me to FT Island and CN Blue because of Jung Yong Hwa 🥰

I really think you should do a special of concert videos of FNC groups. The energy is completely insane and so different from these stages. Concerts are so second nature to them. I'm not sure how you picked songs but there discographies are so wide-ranging and these songs don't show how amazing their vocals are! Also, Hongki (singer FTIsland) and Yonghwa (singer of CNBlue) will also perform together at FNC Kingdom which is so much fun. Also, N.Flying's concert energy matches it. FNC concerts are some of my favorite videos to watch on youtube.

Yup.. CNBLUE and FT island come from 2nd gen era.. i especially like CNBLUE because their music is so good and i love to watch their live performance, its so lively.. and the stability of their voice. What i really like is CNBLUE vocalist that is Jung Yong Hwa.. i really love his vocal tone so much. Before i know kpop, CNBLUE are the only singer/band from korea that i like until i found AkMU and then EXO. So my ult band are CNBLUE, my ult duo are AKMU, my ult idol are EXO and my ult soloist are D.O.

CNBLUE and FTIsland are in the same agency and they are a little bit older 😜. Fun fact, the vocalists both actors and they play together in the Drama "You're beautiful" and the guitar player from CNBLUE is also an actor (Cinderella with Four Knights).
Minhyuk, CNBLUE's drummer is also an actor. He's part of the drama "You are beautiful" together with Yonghwa . He's also a part of the kdrama Heirs/Inheritors. All CNBLUE members are actors. ❤️
So excited to see your reaction to ONEWE! They really craft their music so well, and I agree that their vocalists' voices complement each other so well.
You asked if they're very popular-within the category of bands on the kpop scene, they're sadly not very well-known. Rain To Be, which has 3.4 million views, I think is currently their 2nd-most viewed MV (their most viewed with 3.7million, Regulus, is a couple years older). Since you seem to have enjoyed everything you've reacted to of theirs so far (Q, Parting (Acoustic), Rain To Be), I really hope you'll continue reacting to more of their work!

cn blue is just a gift from god, they were heart throbs n surprisingly for a band immensely popular (alongside ft island n debuted after them) during 2nd gen kpop, especially yonghwa the vocalist as he was in the top k dramas of that time alongside like the lee min ho, he composed for cn blue a lot, sang in his own kdramas n has played singer/idol roles in mainstream kdramas I grew up watching n raved over like 'you're beautiful' (alongside vocalist lee hong ki ft island who starred too cos same company) n 'heartstrings', both w female lead park shin hye. so yh they not a new group, they were a huge hit from 2010s era
“A Book in Memory” by Onewe is a musical masterpiece!!
My first K-band I fell for was FT Island (still love their music today) and I never fell as hard for a k-band until ONEWE came along.
For FTISLAND, this song that you chose showed only 10% of Hongki power and technique
I think you recognize Dongmyeon from Onewe because you pointed out his pristine hands and nails on one of their acoustic versions of their songs on your RBW special lol
From the same album as "Rain to be", I recommend their B side "Aurora" not a high budget clip but def high quality song!!!! Aurora really takes you on a journey.
Also a few of my other faves are Regulus, Star, Montage (all have great guitar solo's too), A book in memory and for a lighter feel maybe Veronica because the guitarist Kanghyun incorporated Harry Potter in his solo 🤣 but I mean they're all great to be honest

Day6 are extremely talented, they have all enlisted so they aren’t active currently, but they all have solo/album releases:
Young K - Guard You
Dowoon (yes he sings too, a very talented drummer) - Out of the Blue (with Song Hee Jin)
Wonpil - Voiceless
Jae/eaJ - Car Crash (many other releases on his yt as well)
Sungjin is coming back from the military soon so maybe a solo debut for him as well. (i hope so i love his voice)
Also they have acted before, Wonpil acted in a web drama and him and Young K have made cameos in some stuff. Their acting in their school trilogy mv are golden (you must watch! lol)

FTISLAND CNBLUE NFLYING are the holy Trinity of k-pop boy bands especially I love FT so much also for girl bands please react AOA debut song Elvis and AOA Black subunits songs Moya they are from the same company like Their company FNC entertainment is the best for k bands
About the FTisland's vocalist, Lee Honggi, his husky voice is just super wow! Hope you guys will check about them more..

FTISLAND is the first kband in Korea and a well-known band in all kbands in Korea, there was no band before they were the ones who promoted kband because kpop is more known than kband and in my opinion ftisland is the only one you can truly say is k-rock when compared to other kbands today in short THEY'RE LEGENDS... please react to ftisland so you understand what I'm saying and also their main vocalist Lee Hongki was well-known for his powerful raspy voice and very respectable idol and even the other kpop idol is idolizing him so much because of his unique voice. PLEASEE REACT TO FTISLAND LIVE PERFORMANCE.. sorry for my poor introduction
they're not the first kband...there has always been nonidol bands(n they're awesome...at least the few i listen to n nonmainstream bands' music are a lot more diverse than idol bands depending on each of the groups' musical identities) but FT Island definitely is the first idol band(at least as far as mainstream idol band goes, pretty sure there were some idol bands during 1st gen but FT Island really was the one that succeeded to make idol bands a big thing n brought so many other bands to follow up) Without FT Island's insane success(followed by CN Blue's even bigger success) none of the other idol bands in this video would even exist since kpop is all about following successful trends.

FT Island's Vocalist Lee Hongki is actually very good friends with Taka of One Ok Rock! I think it came to be since FT Island used to be very big in Japan and promoted there all the time before. I feel that that will cement the status the band holds in the K-Music industry more ♥♥♥

You need need need to listen to FT Island's "Wind", which the main vocalist wrote. The Sketchbook version, or his radio performance with Seventeen's Seungkwan.
Older Korean bands like YB, Gukkasten, and Jaurim are also amazing and definitely with their own styles.

CNBLUE live concerts are the best!!! Great choice there! There are plenty of their live concert videos available on TH-cam, and once you start watching you can't stop. Their energy is unbelievable, especially the lead vocalist Yonghwa. He's literally jumping around, running up and down the runways, all while singing and sometimes while playing guitar too. He plays the piano as well, and you should see him SPRINT and leap over amps to get back to the keyboard in time after running to the front to hype up the crowd. Drummer Minhyuk is also a monster who can keep going forever, and i personally feel he doesn't get enough credit for his incredible drumming.
And as you guys have already noted, Yonghwa is an incredible vocalist who can carry diverse genres from ballads to jazz to hard rock with ease, and not only does he sing all these different genres, he writes songs in all these genres too. Most of the CNBLUE songs are his compositions, as are ALL his solo work. You should check out his solo concerts too.
(And ahem, i'm pretty sure their weight stats are outdated in that profile. You can check out Yonghwa's physique in the kdrama Sell Your Haunted House, but i highly recommend you stay for the entire story too. You won't regret it!)
