Invisalign and Coffee

  • I don't remove my Invisalign aligners for drinking.
    The key is that I don't swish the drink around my teeth or aligners.
    When I'm finished with my drink, I'll swish/rinse with water.
    I keep my aligners clean and stain-free by brushing them twice a day with toothpaste or denture cleaning when I'm brushing my teeth.
    I've found that this strategy works well for me and keeps my aligners as transparent as possible over the 1 - 2 weeks that I'm using them.
    If my aligners do happen to stain slightly, I'll be changing to a new clear set after 1 - 2 weeks use anyway.

    oh god... the issue is not the color. it's the heat. you can drink anything with invisilign IF IT IS COLD. yes it will stain maybe a little but heat will modify the integrity of the aligners.

    Jet, I am so disciplined that I spent my first 10 months drinking only water or sparkling water to avoid tray staining. I am one year and four months in and I just started drinking coffee through a straw. I also limit all sugary items after taking off the aligners. I clean them with a denture cleaning tablet about three times per week.

      You are absolutely disciplined. That’s awesome! Nice job. There’s nothing wrong with your approach.
      I will add that brushing my aligners with toothbrush and toothpaste worked best for me (Note: That’s also how Invisalign’s instructions for use describe how to clean them 👍🏼)

      After wearing the aligners for a while, you will learn angles at which you can pop them off and back in easily. You learn not to pull...you peel them off.

    Hi! So I just got Invisalign and I was wondering...so I was always told to wait 30min after eating before brushing to help my teeth remineralize. That would really cut into my 22 hours of wear a day if I had to wait 30min before putting them back in after I take them out to eat

    Staining isnt the only problem since it's a thermoplastic the heat could cause changes in the stracture - pretty much cause the tray to be more like your teeth now rather then the trays original shape

    • @jetboutiqueorthodontics
      @jetboutiqueorthodontics  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True! 🙂 That’s why I take small sips and don’t allow the liquid to overflow onto the aligners. It’s unlikely people will swish coffee in their mouth because of the high temperature, aligners or not. I’ve never had a problem.
      I place more focus on time wearing the aligners than what should or shouldn’t be done while wearing them. I’ve found that the amount of wear time is what directly correlates to best treatment results.

    People who are going to drink with aligners in, remember It’s not just about staining. People who do this and don’t immediately brush after, keep sugars trapped between their teeth and aligners. Causing accelerated cavity growth.

    • @jetboutiqueorthodontics

      I wouldn’t recommend vaping with the aligners in place. If you have to vape, I would say to remove the aligners, vape, and then swish your mouth with water before placing the aligners back in. This will help prevent teeth staining.

    My dentist told me not to drink or eat anything with those on and only drink normal water

    • @jetboutiqueorthodontics
      @jetboutiqueorthodontics  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, many dentists have learned to say this because they believe that your aligners will stain and you’ll be more susceptible to cavities because sugar will remain on your aligners and teeth for long periods of time.
      I treated myself with Invisalign and tested every aspect of what is told to patients by us doctors.
      I drank coffee with them in, wine, and other drinks that were not clear liquids or water.
      I brushed my aligners with toothpaste and toothbrush (also one of things patients are told not to do).
      What I found was that as long as my oral hygiene was great and I brushed my aligners twice a day with a toothbrush and toothpaste, my aligners and teeth were just fine. Minimal staining and no more susceptible to cavities.
      A good thing to do is take small sips of whatever non-water drink so that they don’t cover the aligners completely during drinking, and then whenever I was done drinking, I would switch my mouth with water quickly with the aligners in my mouth still.
      Again, I never had an issue, and neither do my patients. 👍🏼

      Hi 🙂 I enjoy my coffee hot, and that’s how I drank it with my aligners still in my mouth. I found that if I took smaller sips and did not allow the hot liquid to switch around my mouth and onto my aligners, I was good. 👍🏼

      @@jetboutiqueorthodontics awesome, btw today only I got my teeth scanned for aligners.
      The doc said, post-treatment you have to wear retainers for 4-5 months and then you don't have to wear them ever. Is this claim of his right??
      Also, 7-8 years ago I underwent a braces treatment and had permanent retainers for almost 4 years but 3 years ago they broke. So got it removed by another dentist, but slowly slowly spaces came back. And the doctor who did the scan, told me the reason for the relapse was improper pressure balance and told with our aligners and 4/5 months of permanent retainers, I don’t have to wear retainers ever again as we will make sure pressure distribution is achieved. Though I kind of want this thing only freeness of my teeth, but am i being fooled?? Are retainers for lifetime even after aligner treatment and that pressure distribution is mere fancy stuff to make me buy the plan?

    • @Tiger212-h7c
      @Tiger212-h7c ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jetboutiqueorthodontics Thanks for the advice, btw I mistakenly mentioned above that he advised me for permanent retainers post aligner treatment, whereas he too recommended removable retainers, but the thing he said I need to wear for 4/5 months them too, made me happy.
      But deep down I knew the things you mentioned in advice, as I had done little research before today's appointment but the fact he was so sure was sort of relaxing as I would be free from retainers after 4/5 months but I guess he just wants me to buy his treatment. Anyways, I will go ahead... As you have also mentioned that it is part of the natural process for teeth to move. So it's pretty obvious we gotta give them some external restrictions to pause/stop them dancing.
