One of the best tightheads we had since 1992. Great scrummager and very good with ball in hand. Only got the recognition he deserved after he left EP. Great for Cheetahs and the Lions.
Absolutely, his strength was unmatched in my view. It's a shame that many players had to leave EP in order to gain attention but that's just the reality. Willie was a great guest!

@@frontrowrugby awesome interview Peter! I met Willie years ago & we come from the same part of the Eastern Cape- Willie's from Despatch & I was from Uitenhage.A strong prop who should've played more tests!
Thanks Sean. My dad hails from the Eastern Cape. He actually attended Daniel Pienaar and I still have family in Gqeberha and Uitenhage today. Willie was incredibly strong and a great prop in those days. So pleased I could get him on.

been waiting for this interview, another childhood hero of mine, Willie Meyer, Adrian Garvey and Cobus Visagie made me fall in love with springbok rugby, I switched from loosehead prop to tighthead because of these "3" heroes of mine, cheers for this one mate.
