I spent several hours reading over my college textbook and notes, staring at these problems in frustration...And it literally only took me a few minutes to understand from your video! Gold star for you, sir!
+Mark Miller Wooo! First Gold Star! :D Glad to hear that I could help. Btw Mark, if you're interested in possibly getting a free tutoring session with me, you should check out my Patreon Page which has a Free Tutoring Lottery option! (www.patreon.com/OrgoMadeEasy)
I'm in tears. Taking my MCAT in two weeks and I COULD NOT master this concept. It would cost me so many questions on my full length practice exams. I finally get it and can apply it. You have a gift not many have so thank you for using it and being a blessing for me and so many others. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!!!
its imperative to memorize when the main elements used in Orgo are at a neutral formal charge. O at 2 bonds 2 lone pairs; N at 3 bonds 1 lone pair; C at 4 bonds 0 lone pairs; halogens at 3 lone pairs 1 bond. If you remember these rules it makes everything clear. It just becomes an easy logic puzzle (you can also calculate formal charges on anything if you're not sure by applying the formula: Group number of element - (bonds attached to element + lone pair electrons))
Thank you so much. I was struggling with resonance and your explanation of "filling in the gap" where there are positively charged atoms really flipped a switch in my mind. Awesome video!
Watching your videos during the pandemic is a lifesaver, I have no clue how to study anymore due to the lack of effort my professors are putting in, by them only giving us simple slides with no explanation & detail. Thank you!
Frank , I study in 11th grade in India and really saying your teaching technique was really really really awesome. It was extremely good and intuitive your name is frank and your teaching technique is also "frank" keep it up brother , it was just gooooood. and I want to ask that what if we are given with a neutral molecule then also we have to follow the same steps?
+Sarthak Sharma Thanks! :D It's always great to hear feedback from students like you, makes it all worth it in the end. :] And yes for neutral molecules, you have to look for atoms with lone pairs (usually NItrogen or Oxygen) that can resonante and move them to form double bonds usually.
YOU'RE THE BEST. I mean, I read all I could about it, and still not get clarity, but watching this 8 minute video, possibly cleared all my doubts. Keep it up, bro!
I went through hours of studying, for you to explain it to me in 10 min. I literally can't explain how grateful I am for this video. Do you still tutor?
Just saw your comment! Yes!! I’ve still been tutoring/probably will for the rest of my life. 😊 #NoRetirementForMe Hope Orgo went/is going well! Feel free to reach out OrgoMadeEasy@Gmail.com for tutoring! Rates range from $60-$150/HR depending on which tutor/how early in the semester students sign up! 😀
Man oh man.......Frank.....I cant thank you enough for actually teaching something. I absolutely despise my o chem professor because he literally just narrates going through the structure and doesnt EXPLAIN ANYTHING!!!!!!! It really sucks professors like him have such a comfy job and truly do not teach a damn thing. Its just a job they show up to. THANK YOU THANK YOU
How can it be so simple???? Like I did not understand any word of the lecture and now I understand almost everything!!!! Thank you so much! You saved my final!
MYLOVEBUGLIFE101 Haha that's the magic of "Orgo Made Easy" ;) if you could help me spread the word I'd really appreciate it. Or if you'd like to help support my channel with as little as 1$ you can do so via Patreon.com/OrgoMadeEasy. Regardless best of luck on your final!!!
THANK YOU!!!! You made this much easier to understand. I've spent so much time watching other videos, taking notes in lecture, etc., but you made the seemingly impossible become possible in under eight minutes. I will definitely be watching your other videos!
+Sleipnirseight Thanks a bunch for the comment! I didn't see yours until now, but it's super motivating so I had to reply. :D Are you all done with Orgo now?
i just avoid resonance in 11th standard but i started facing great problems when my 12th board was at the end...then i tried a lot to learn this topic reading many books wasting my time but i just failed.... your video is just not a video it is a great technic to rid off a huge tension of chemistry..... love it from *India* .... thank you so much❤
Omfg your explanation is so concise I’m amazed. Since covid happened, all my classes have been moved to online platforms and org chem is one of subjects I’m struggling in. You’re better than my professor 😭😭😭
what an amazing refresher video!! I am starting organic chemistry this fall and I needed a refresher on resonance structures and this video was so informative! thank you!!
You’re very welcome Hannah!! If you ever need any tutoring don’t hesitate to reach out we have tutors who’s rates range from $70-$180/HR! Hope you have a great semester! 💪🏼
I'm sure many people watch this for help in their organic class. I just want to make sure everyone can use this as a resource, I wanted to let you know your captions are slightly off. At 3:28 it says "so if there is a pot if" instead of "if there is a positive". But this video is great and extremely helpful! Keep it up!
Frank Wong sir, you are a genius. Resonance was a nightmare for me. But this video has made resonance one of the most easiest concepts. Thanks a lot sir !!
All those university lectures I sat through and I didn't understand a damn thing. Mostly bc the professor didn't put much emphasis on the overall key point; or if while he/she did, I got distracted by the person sitting in front of me or the person next to me or the guy diagonally from me poking his nose mid-lecture. This cleared my cloud of "resonance structures are too abstract"...thank you for making my life better by making this topic less anxiety-producing. Also, I didn't have to pause and rewind as I do with a lot of videos because you emphasized the purpose of resonance structures so clearly. It makes it easier to not get sidetracked mid problem when I clearly know the end purpose. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Make more videos! And I already liked and subscribed!
Thank you for making this. I have an exam soon and resonance structures are the only thing I didn't understand. I've been stressing about it for so long and suddenly it makes sense!
YOU ARE GREAT! Thank you for taking your time to explain this to us and help so many people. Your videos are a mixture between fun and great explanations. Thanks again and keep on doing this! You save many lives by doing this haha !
Awesome!! You can conquer resonance~~~! (Btw theres 4 more Resonance Videos on my channel if you need exam level problems haha). Also be sure to hit the bell 🛎 button because I’m coming out with a new Orgo Made Easy Podcast series soon!
Gabriel Cordova you’re welcome!! I have 4 other Resonance videos that you can practice this way of thinking with 😃, it’s nice not to have to worry abt formal charge calculations right?
Can you cover formal charges? I watched your other resonance vids. This is the best one if you have a basic understanding for resonance! I am glad I did not give up watching. Thanks.
Thanks for watching Melissa! I’ll add that to the list 👍🏼🙂. Any specific Qs about formal charges? Also if you or any friends are looking for a tutor my team and I still have availabilities and rates range from $80-$180/HR depending on the tutor.
I've discovered your channel now and I have my Organic Chemistry test on Tuesday. I will see all your videos to check I know everything I need to know. Btw, thank you very much for this one. It has been really helpful for me (sometimes I just think about moving all bonds and this have cleared my ideas! ) ^^
The field of study is called pedagogy, and most teachers, ridiculously enough, don't understand it. They're literally bad at the thing they're being paid to do.

Was looking for information on resonance - tuning solenoids, resonance of volumes/ chambers, strings etc... when I saw something about resonance and chemistry, I was intrigued. It didn't turn out to be quite the concept that I was anticipating (I was expecting something more along the lines of how electromagnetic, or mechanical vibrations resonate with different molecular structures). There was a different video that I saw first that was quite long/ tedious and didn't give a very good explanation, because the example that was used was confounded by the fact he'd made his resonant structure essentially diagonally symmetrical to his starting molecule (which was rather confusing, because it seemed much simpler just to flip the molecule, and it made the steps seem unnecessary). Your example was much clearer, made perfect sense, and didn't have any nerd-baggage (his videos seemed bitter or something >_> ). Anyway, again I really enjoyed your video. Excellently clear procedure.
hi li Wow that's a funny story lol. I'm glad you at-least got to learn some Orgo along the way. And thanks for the positive feedback, I really appreciate it, especially since you're not even an Orgo student. But in case you ever take the class, you know where to go now ;). Gluck with your resonance stuff!
Don’t stop...never stop finding them... 💪...but no seriously typically Profs just ask for a few or if they want all theres like 3-6 at most. Atleast from what I’ve seen
I dont think this is amazing video! Because, this video is beyond amazing! Simply superb! Excellent work! Keep it up and keep posting videos like this. Thanks!!! :)

How come college professors never do lectures like this...
I think Chemistry has become so dull and simple to professors, they simply cannot teach well or they won't teach well. It's sad.
The field of study is called pedagogy, and most teachers, ridiculously enough, don't understand it. They're literally bad at the thing they're being paid to do.
Oh my goodness you made it so simple! I have a qui tomorrow and I was panicking. You've made me feel a little bit more confident about this
4 years later, how'd it go?
Wow, all my years of college, and no one ever explained it like this. Reviewing for my masters exam, forgot all about resonance...smh. Thank you!
