Military historian and journalist Thomas E. Ricks won the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for his Wall Street Journal series on U.S. defense spending in the post-Cold War era. His books include The Generals, The Gamble, and the Pulitzer Prize finalist Fiasco, a bestselling account of America’s tragic and reckless invasion of Iraq. A member of the Center for a New American Security defense policy think tank, he has reported on a wide variety of military activities for The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Atlantic Monthly, among other publications. His new book is a dual biography of Winston Churchill’s and George Orwell’s farsighted fight for democracy during its darkest hours.

Interesting, and to me, a very appealing delivery.
I'm not sure about the apparent safety net of a written constitution.
Slavery was unamerican, but survived a long while. So were The Beatles' haircuts in the eyes of many - though the constitution says nothing about hair. I think people who quote the constitution are unamerican in the eyes of some. Some Americans think the country is officially Christian, or that everyone should speak English.
So I think the unwritten constitution trumps the written one, sometimes. Scary.

How does one build a powerful "GOLEM" to protect oneself, without falling prey to it eventually?

Cohen, Goldberg, Krauthammer, what do these "conservatives" all have in common?

Mr Ricks I still respect you as a man and your entitled to your opinion but I think you need to give Trump's history some time to become history, I'm pretty sure you watch CNN, I'd say stick to past events

He spoke in 2017, and if anything Trump has proven him 200% right. What a failure of an administration. The perfect example of a leader more interested in personal self-gain than his country's well-being.

@@KiharaNoukan crazy how the Trump derangement syndrome never goes away with you guys. You probably think it was good Twitter banned a sitting president too, and you probably think he caused an insurrection, tell me, how many people have been charged with insurrection from January 6th?

@@songkran4life Consider the crazy idea of holding a discussion without immediately devolving into laughable platitudes like "Trump derangement syndrome." Criticizing Trump is perfectly fair game when you're the one who brought him up in the first place by singling out the minority portion of Ricks' lecture that actually discusses him.

@@KiharaNoukan that's the thing, if the Trump haters don't catch themselves they go on and on about what the media has told you to think about him. It's funny how he doesn't talk at all really about any Obama policy decisions or Clinton or any other president much, besides Trump. He's still living in your head and you and others suffering from perrinial TDs need to actually just one time, listen to one of his speeches start to finish without the media telling you what he said. That's what I did I 2016 and why I voted for him. I listened to him, I didn't listen to what people said about him. You guys really don't know him, you never gave him a chance. And I'm sorry if you actually listened to a Biden speech start to finish. I have done that as well. I listened to the entire corn pop story.

Tomas ricks calls Trump a “vampire of souls” and “incompetent” “fake actor “ and compared Trump to the ugliest fictional characters. He berated conservatives and calls Leftists as conservatives. This man does not know God, has no moral values to stand on. He says George Orwell is a terrible novelist, minor, and a “gun Nut”, calling his books “unreadable” and “just bad”, “Doesn’t resonate” and “who cares”
Animal farm is a funny book. Calls 1984 “a horror story like Frankenstein”. Thomas Ricks seems to like Fascists and Communists. This man is a hard core Leftist and calls John Kennedy a “villain” in his book. Ricks claims “John Kennedy was poisoning the well”. This man is a hard core leftist who writes for the most lying most deceitful newspapers in USA 🇺🇸

You hating on Tom just makes me like him more.
Also, Georgle Orwell was a Democratic SOCIALIST.
He said it's impossible to be against facism and for capitalism.
How do you feel about that?
1984 and Animal Farm are both pro-socialism books....

    • @raygon8
      @raygon8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@tsluiter4 Orwell was a virulent anti Communist.
84 and Animal farm are anti-Communist books , as he did explain
Vlad Putin's net worth is between 70&80 Billion and he is a leader of a Communist country.
I think he would say Putin is a Facist because he his rich on the labor of a Russian middle class and what he siphons off of Russian oil and gas value.
There is no Socialism today that Orwell would approve of.
      Is "groupthink" Socialism ?
There is no morality in Socialism today . Its about dogs eating dogs -Solzhenitsyn
Where in this world today is there a Socialist who does not act Totalitarian ?

He's just an old man, someone with an abundance mentality and who went native during his time as a foreign man in a foreign land.
There will never be room for mercy in a world as volatile as one where Man is dominant, where nature itself is subjugated. Man against Man will poetically always be a fight to the finish. People like the speaker will never ever understand the pathology of humans, they see only refined figures of history, not the hordes of brutal men who actually propped up the great men of history.
