I met Maria shortly before she died. She was still a fascinating woman and she cared a lo about her voice.I remember her telling my father to get rid of his cigar or she would leave the table. My father was the Spanish Embassador and we were at the Embassy in London. He obbeyed immediately. She still had her character... That's why I can't stand people talking about her taking drugs and smoking cigarettes.Nonsense.The true love of her live was Bellini, not Ari.Fot Bellini she did the unthinkable like singing Casta Diva with faringitis. She always wanted the notes and the words placed, specially with Rossini. She was very serious about it.Once she said to a pupil in Julliard to stop because she told her she had yo be precise and not just colourful. We are here after hard work not after fireworks ... Beautiful Maria,we all loved you and you and your wonderful work will never be forgotten. As Bellini said throw your seeds in Heaven because on Earth you really did your wonderful planting.
Everyone of us thought you had made a great election with La Sonnambula.Such a romantic and sad role.So well accompained by the male singers. Bellini brought out so many skills of Maria, that it is magical and wonderful. Two souls that never met but that were embraced by hard work and pure beauty.❤🎉
Maria Callas is one if not my favorite sopranos of all time. However, I must admit she was an acquired taste. Once I had acquired that taste, I could not be satiated. She truly was an operatic monster.
Amina is my favorite Callas portrayal. She was born to interpret Bellini's music, and sings as if his shade is whispering the correct phrasing in her ear. The elegiac character of Ah, non credea is deepened and intensified by Callas' sensitive, poetic approach. What a magnificent musician she was. Thank you Manoli, for providing this priceless souvenir of her art on this, her hundredth natal anniversary. ❤❤❤
Who can possibly replace Greatness. Our Maya will reign supreme forever. Her Norma is my favorite Bellini role because of the depth of the entire Opera. Thank you my friend for posting this beautiful piece. 🙏💙🕊 Arnaud
Dear Manoli, I am so moved by your choice of Maria's Sonnambula in your tribute to mark her 100 birthday. It too is my favorite role of hers and that's a difficult choice to make. I had heard many other of her operas before, but when I heard this one I couldn't stop listening to it. In fact, it is the only one I have several copies of. I feel moved in sharing this with you. Thank you, let's hope your gesture makes others discover this gem as well. May we all continue to enjoy her art for a long time.
This is terrific, this is Bellini gloriously rendered by "La Divina". Dear Manoli, I thank you so much for that true gem. PS: Who else is singing with her?

It was accomplished. Nothing more to be said after this rendition. The rest is cottoncandy.
