You can also use feather fixer or turkey pellets(get it at tractor supply) in the suet. Put in a plastic bag, take mallot and pound into powder. Good source of protein.
Thank you for this recipe and the video! But, please do not add SALT to the recipe. They don't need salt. Also, the Peanut Butter must be ALL NATURAL with no added salt or sugar.
I was always taught that birds need all kinds of minerals to aid in digestion and to give them the nutrients that are hard to find when covered with snow. On the farm in CT we smashed up a little nugget from the trace mineral blocks we put out in the pasture for the cows.🇺🇸🚒🚑🐄
Great! I’m going to try making this without the oats or white flour or salt. Can you suggest bird healthy substitutions? Maybe some ground up seed? Also, what keeps it from melting? Thanks!
I saw a video that slowly melted a bought suet, then added bird seeds, meal worms , and unsalted nut deshelled to the mixture it's all safe and good for birds , just slowly melt the suet cake. Don't use high heat.
@Mark that's a great question. According to google they do. Birds can help plants grow by spreading the plants' seeds, pollinating the plants themselves, and also by eating insects that are pests to plants. Hope this helps! :)
Oops -- recipe is missing "add remaining ingredients", and be very careful to microwave lard just 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between. Lard can catch fire if it develops a hot spot!

So how much salt? its not in your Recipe ...
I removed the salt from the recipe. It seems that it's healthier for the birds if there is no salt added. :)
You can use honey as the preservative instead of the salt.
So appreciate your suggestion. Thanks for watching!
For my suet, the birds eating are.....woodpeckers, grey cat bird, titmouse, house wren.
Awesome!
so if flour is so bad for us then why would we feed it to birds? think about it.
Definitely something to think about. 🤔
Does it melt?
That's a great question @yhwh strateuma. No it does not. 😊
Doesn’t water cause them to fall apart while birds are eating them?
Mine haven't fallen apart. The birds love it!
