This type of cause and effect suspension video is very helpful. If you haven’t already please share more in-depth and various racing formats. Thank you
I thought chatter can be a result of too slow or too fast rebound it's not just that the rebound is too slow, doesn't it depend on other factors? You didn't talk about sag or spring rates prior to making compression and rebound adjustments, which is vital in initial setup, no?
I know this is a old video but can anyone help me ? My bikes feeling so bad at the moment it's making my back bad and arm pumps fast .. it's not absorbing anything and I'm being shaken and bounced around all over . It's okay at higher speeds and trail riding or hard enduro is so uncomfortable on it at the moment. Its wp xplor48 with racetechs gold valve
What would you guys recommend for a balance setup where you don't race on a circuit, but more in the open (Baja) with dry river beds with sand, then turns to kind of hard pack then hard pack with rocks, then flat, then go to trails with dirt, then some sections with sand then harder surface, etc. I ask as I don't do that much pro racing and stuff so just looking for a general balance for the area where I live so I don't have to adjust every single time.. I have access to lots of easy adjustable settings and for now I don't ride super fast or do big jumps, etc. Maybe it is an impossible question but just looking for something more general as a starting point and then start adjusting from there. Thanks and great vids!
Some looked like rider induced actions, not so much suspension, which is easy to do on dirt, by the line taken, while hitting berm at the same time; if the springs are wrong for the weight, theres not enough adjustments to make it right with LS damping & HSC damping.
I'm pretty sure they were demonstrating the problem scenarios on purpose so people unfamiliar with the terms can understand what is happening and how to correct it. So many times I've seen people who are pushing the front tire wide soften the compression and slow the rebound thinking they are pushing because too stiff which in turn made it worse because they end up diving the front and pushing out even more; when what they needed was to stiffen compression to transfer the weight into the ground through the tire for better traction.
Isn't most of this just "dirtbiking?" LOL Make riding line adjustments depending on the conditions. If a track only had one stype of obstacle or soil for the whole track, one adjustment migh work. But the track is constantly changing per the conditions, lines, soil, etc. If you make an adjustment to make the corner better, might that affect the other parts of the track? Of course it might. It would be nice if one or two adjustments would fix all issues!
That's why suspension isn't perfect, but we can make it more bearable on the worst sections on the track, also alot of the examples were general suggestions anyway. The most important factor on your suspensions performance is your spring rate, being 10kg overweight for the springs you have on your bike will cause all sorts of performance issues if you ride fast
@@HorsepowerHouse Well, I am impressed that a guy named "basketball" knows anything about suspension set up. He is right about the spring rates. That really has to be done first (if needed) before anything else. I never would have guessed a guy named "basketball" would know that. Suspension could be a lot better than "bearable" though. So I guess his dampening makes his wheels "dribble". :)
Hey Beau, had the exact same speed wobble issue. Local dealership who had redone my suspension asked me “did you set your sag”? Me-nope Him-shook his head Took two minutes. Then the bike turned into a new machine. That a few years ago. Now my current bike wanted to dive hard into corners. So badly I couldn’t hardly ride in the sand. I was terrified. Slid the fork tubes down as far as they would go. That increases your wheel base. Longer the machine the harder it is to make it turn. Worked out great. Hope it helps even tho I’m 2 years behind on your comment😂

should make loads of these video's! they really do help to get your head around the basics of suspension setup :D
I know... 9 years later. Race Tech holds a lot of conference seminars, I'd recommend looking up some of those videos.
Great explanations of different types of scenarios and different suspensions settings.
Just learned a whole lot in 3 mins after reading tons of threads and articles and junk. Thanks!!
I'm been searching for information like this, cheers. Be good to do one for enduro / bush trail riding.
Great vid, make more please.
Some of the terms are very unfamiliar, newly rider but learning a lot, thanks
Great video thank you.
Awesome video. Thank you.
Good info squeezed into 3 minutes...
Slow down, we're not on the track
Thanx i just learned a lot
Please more videos just like this one
I’ve turned all my clickers in out half way it never feels like it does anything so I just make adjustments on how I ride
Does anyone know if the basic fundamentals that were described in the awesome video recorded a quick tip chart or one page help guide? Cheers, Stevo
Whoops are high speed compression of the rear shock though no?
Thank you

On harder, smooth surfaces you want to have less compression and harder rebound so your wheel will stick to the ground better
@@basketball7677 But a Harley hard tail will stick to the ground on smooth surfaces. :)

I ride a 2014 crf250r and the front end wants to tuck in corners and going down straights I get speed wobble. Any tips, pls help
Tighten your steering stem (the huge nut/bolt below your bars in the middle of the triple clamp) your steering is too loose

@@dathonlawler81 thanks mate and still got the bike so Ill try these tips👍🏻😂
no it wasnt u could see what line he was going for until it tucked
I thought jump landings are a high speed compression scenario??
According to Paul Thede, the owner of Race Tech, they are. (I have the Race Tech book).
The shirt looks good on this guy though. lol
My Nx650 don't have screws to turn.
the last one was cuz he had a crappy line choice!
Say just Lil enough super fast so nobody has a friggin clue...!!! thank god for rockymountainatv how to vijays!!!
You speed up rebound when the front wants to wash out or running wide? That's interesting...
I hope you guys got permission from RJD2 to use his music.
