يحتل قسم الأورام بمستشفى توام مركز الصدارة في علاج مرضى السرطان ويُعتبر مركزاً مرجعياً وفق أحدث المعايير العالمية وتُحال إليه حالات السرطان للتشخيص والعلاج التخصصي مُتبَوِّءاً بذلك دوراً رائداً في منطقة الخليج، مع انفراده بتوفير خدمة الرعاية التلطيفية في دولة الإمارات. وكان السبّاق في تطبيق تقنية العلاج الموجّه كما و حصل على جائزة الشيخ حمدان بن راشد آل مكتوم للعلوم الطبية الإنجازات المتميزة في مجال الطب عن فئة القسم الطبي المتميز في القطاع الحكومي في دولة الإمارات مرتين.
كما و يحتوي قسم الأورام في توام على تخصصات أورام الجهاز الهضمي و عيادة جراحة المعدة والأمعاء كما و يعالج حالات سرطان المعدة والمريء والقولون، والأمراض الكبدية البنكرياسية، وكذلك الأورام الخبيثة النادرة مثل السرقوم وأورام الغدة الكظرية.
A two-time Hamdan Awardee for Outstanding Clinical Department in the UAE public sector and recipient of other awards, Tawam Hospital’s Oncology department is in the forefront of UAE’s and the Gulf’s cancer treatment and boasts of service with international standards. Its palliative care remains the only service of its kind in the UAE. Currently, there are different treatment modalities available including systematic chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies and almost all regimens recommended for different disease stated by international organizations like the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) from the US. The oncology department offers services including comprehensive modern radiation oncology with two state of the art linear accelerators, a tomotherapy unit and brachytherapy treatment options, laboratory and pathology, pharmacy, clinical nutrition, clinical imaging, molecular imaging, amongst others.
The department also has a gastro-intestinal multidisciplinary tumour boards as well as oncological surgery clinic that handle cancer cases of the stomach, oesophagus, colon, hepatopancreatic disease, as well as rare malignancies like sarcoma and adrenal gland tumours.
