- We're near the penultimate issue where everything will come to an end in the double sized Issue 75!
But before that, we have to deal with issue 73 and ALOT happens here which will be even more crazy in the tipping point in Issue 74!
Check out my review here! #sonicthehedgehog #idwsonic #sonicidw #sonicidwcomics #surgethetenrec
Just to clarify Surge and Kit's plan is just a tad more complex than it is on the surface. By unmasking the Phantom Rider as Sonic and loudly revealing their orders to destroy him, they've effectively told the world that the founder of the Clean Sweep wants Sonic dead. And considering Sonic is an almost universally beloved hero who has saved the world dozens of times, having it revealed that he wanted him dead is bound to cause some massive outrage, as we can see from the crowd’s angry reactions.
I feel like the one thing you didn't comment on was the fact that this whole issue is what is called a "Gambit Pileup" where a bunch of different plans ram into each other causing total chaos, but Surge and Kit's plan STILL came out successful. Sure Surge got hurt seemingly pretty bad but she has a healing factor. This basically went perfectly for them. Kinda shows that Kit is more than capable of outsmarting EVERYONE else involved in this arc.
Indeeed. Actually, Surge getting hit but not badly injured was part of the plan as well, Surge's contribution to Kit's plan. Surge intentionally pretended to be rushing at Sonic as recklessly as possible and, although not planned, even stunning Tangle who didn't know their plan. She wanted to prompt Sonic to finally attack her back.
Sonic did so, but not the villains nor the heroes expected Surge to 'pull a Sonic' on Sonic. While attacking recklessly and getting knocked down, she actually used her max speed and sleight of hand to tear off Sonic's disguise module without even Sonic noticing. Something straight our of Sonic's handbook. She sabotaged the trap while admitting proudly on live television that her new boss wanted Sonic gone, but she only got rid of his disguise, completely destroying the plan of the villain and saving Sonic.
I'm still not so sure that they'll get away with it though, I Mean, Clutch is clever; he probably anticipated something like that and does a counter-move to make them look like monsters out of spite, by maybe showing the public what they did to team sonic's boards. oh boy, won't Surge go off the deep end when the public turns against them
@@RobertJames-i8j They literally admitted to being ordered to kill Sonic the Hedgehog in front of an audience of thousands. I think Surge is aware that her public opinion is forfeit, and has accepted that.
Clutch trying to counter them with their past crimes, especially crimes HE ordered, won't work now.
@@Slashthekitsune okay, I get that, but Clutch save face by making them look like monsters, and in turn, pathological liars, only for the Chaotix to spill his dirty secrets through the network.
Oh boy, Surge will probably go beserk for being outwitted and outmanoeuvred and having costed her hero status for good, and only a rematch with Whisper, in which she loses, and a harsh but fair pep talk from Sonic would calm her down
@@RobertJames-i8j This is very very specific and I don't really imagine that's likely to be the way it's going.
at the beginning of this issue, i love how much Jewel had changed since her debut, she was first portrayed as this normal civilian and damsel in distress who needed to be rescue but after taking the role as head of the restoration, she gain new confidence and stands up for herself and everyone, you can see how Clutch is keeping everyone on the shuttle hostage so they are unable to do anything
and Sonic's reveal as the Phantom Rider to the public, i thought they would do reveal by the arc's climatic end but wow i didn’t expected it to get reveal that way
and one thing i noticed about Surge during the entire issue with her hair down symbolizing her role/development in the story, when we first saw Surge with her hair down she was an innocent kid being put through horrific experiments to be Sonic's replacement and having her mind rewritten by Starline in order to mold her into the image, the second time we see her with her hair down is at the start of the Sonic Riders arc during her meeting with Clutch and Mimic, where we see that her deal to work with Clean Sweep's Inc results in them trading another master for another and being manipulated again, in this issue when she outsmart Sonic and exposed him and Clutch to the public, we can see its her breaking free from Clutch's control and that they would no longer take orders from him
ngl, Surge was kinda brutal in this i know she's always brutal and aggressive but this time it's amped up with her electrocuting Tangle then proceeded to jump off her unconscious body like she's a trampoline and twisting Clutch's words back at him as well as mocking him so that's what Kit's plan was pretty good i might say
and another thing we would address in this issue is Whisper and Tangle, man their poor communication to tell Lanolin about the current situation in this issue is literally not looking pretty like Whisper please give Lanolin a chance to be an actual leader instead of keeping her in the dark and don't repeat the same mistake you made in issue 64, you're just forcing her into a corner leaving her no choice but to turn against you don't let your fear of Mimic keep you from locking her out of the loop, i wonder whatever Whisper's plan was before Surge interrupt it was to separate Lanolin from Duo and apologizing to her then let her on the plan we'll never know
That is an interesting point of view with Surge's hair being symbolism. I like it!
Looks like Surge and Kit will be anti heroes after all. Also and this was just announced, remember the crossover tease months ago? Well, we might have our answer. Batman. Yep, that Batman. There's a teaser where Shadow is dressed as Batman, minus the mask.
Points to Surge for becoming more crafty. She willingly took a hit to expose Sonic. I hope she and Kit expose both Clutch and Mimic.
Should I feel bad for the security guards? They're about to get manhandled by the game characters.
Jewel has come to the same conclusion that the babylon rouges have in issue 71, that Sonic guessed that the games were a scam, because if he's disrupting them, then, if he's a hero, he's actually got a good reason, and he HAS realised it, but not when they first thought. he figured it out, not from the start, but because of Don and Nite telling him what they and the chaotix were up to. plus. he's only doing it initially as a distraction for Amy and Tails
There are multiple layers to this issue and I love it >:)
With the first part of Jewel trying kick out Clutch and end the collab with the Restoration and Clean Sweep, unfortantley, Clutch has tookover the security while Jewel was busy. Making her powerless to defy him. Honestly, with how Clutch was slowly taking over the Restoration without anyone noticing is a pretty good plan. Since everyone is focusing with the Phantom Rider, no one was suspecting how he was taking over the shuttle. Since Jewel is powerless to take on Clutch, she goes back to Tangle and Whisper about the news. Setting up a plan for them trying to coroperate with Sonic and see if he could help them. This does open a window for them. Most of the characters are suspecious on Clutch and try to devise a plan.
Then we get to the action which is pretty good all around. With the Phantom Rider up and active, he pretty much gets everyone's attention. The Babylong Rouges being carless and driving straight in, The Diamond Cutters trying to find openings and take advantage of the situation, and Surge and Kit being BRUTAL in the fight. Which lead to them into an interesting potition. While Surge did expose the Phantom Rider, *(or in her case destroyed the Phantom,)* Surge and Kit were attacking the other racers and even the Diamond Cutters. *So that's two reveals from both sides.* Even Surge yelling out to Clutch that she did indeed destory the Phantom Rider. Leaving the Opposum quite unpleased. Admittingly I kinda wish there was more to it, like maybe Tangle and Whisper trying to communicating to Sonic while in disguise, and Lanolin's reaction to the Phantom's Reveal, what we got was still pretty good. Surge and Kit's plan to "destroy" the Phantom Rider was an interesting way since it does kinda benefit them since they did backfire Clutch's order.
Meanwhile with Tails, Amy and Belle, As they try to hide from Rough & Tumble, they meet up with Don! *(And somehow not being seen by any of the security.)* It was stated that Sonic was keep everyone busy, but it we didn't see any of the security during the Phantom arriving. *I guess that is another semi complaint I had with this issue. Oh well.* Don does inform the others that the Chaotix were in the Shuttle before no contact, with Belle taking assumption on where they could be; The Engine room. *Yeah this TOTALLY does't look like a fragile place to fight in.* Once Belle unlocks the vault, they were able find the Chaotix caged up, with a drive cotaining all of Clean Sweep's history. Unfortantley our Protagonists, Clutch is able to caught them and bring his remaining security alongside Rough & Tumble. Prepping for battle.
Overall pretty good issue! While I wish there was more to the action part, it was still is fun to read. For what I assume, Clutch is gonna try to set the Shuttle straight to Central City if his identity is revealed. *Which of course leads to total destruction.* That being said, I do wonder what Sonic, Surge and Kit are gonna do in this situation since they all are kinda exposed here.
Side note, but I kinda have a theory that Lanolin is gonna try to gain everyone's attention, attempt to arrest Sonic Surge and Kit for the harm they done this event, only for Duo pulling out the knife and hold Lanolin hostage and reveal himself to be Mimic. *IDK I think it would be cool. It would build tension.*
Lanolin will be tick off of this whole thing, Duo/Mimic already put mistrust between them, while I agree that Tangle and Whisper should have tell about the Phantom Riders ,I can see why they hesitant, since Lanolin is a type that everything into value, since Mimic is whisping into her ear,
Is kinda too late to tell her anything, she already don't trust what her teammates have to say, is gonna get really bad between them
The annual looks to be interesting. Especially if its after issue 75
You wanna know something. Clutch really reminds me of this character named Roman Torchwick. They both have a cane which is a gun, they both are bosses, and they both wear hats.
Oddly enough, same feeling here, but less of a second fiddle...now I want him to have a mute sidekick.
Both not threatening
@@reggielacey2235 Clutch really made a threat to pull Sonic's quills out and make him eat them
I am betting Clutch will betray Surge and Kit by having them be trapped on the airship. Most likely through Mimic.
*Where's The Awesome Comic Dub!?!*
Hold up, the comic is delayed until the 30th of this month? That is the same day on my birthday. 🤯
I think it's clear enough that the only reason Tangle says Sonic's name is so Lanolin knows that she and Whisper went behind her back with this, but while it's hardly the worst contrivance the comics have pulled in recent memory (and I guess if anyone was gonna spill the beans it would be her) it still kind of bothers me because in this case I don't think it was even necessary for her to slip up so obviously
I mean Lanolin has already been primed by Duo in #71 to suspect the two are hiding something about the Phantom Rider, right? And then she sees Tangle abruptly go from helping her hunt down the Rider in all the previous events to going as far as _physically restraining_ Lanolin to stop her from hitting him. Even if Tangle hadn't outright said Sonic's name when she did that, I think Lanolin would still have plenty of reason to suspect Tangle already knew at that point that it was Sonic under that disguise (and if Lanolin were to confirm her suspicions in the next issue by putting Tangle on the spot like she did in #64, I don't think Tangle would be able to convincingly deny it). It's not the biggest deal in the world or anything, but idk the little nitpicks like these have really been building for me lately
Speaking of which, I wonder if the Babylon Rogues will ever get to do something in this Sonic Riders arc. Jet looking jealous of Surge in #70 and then them learning the Rider's identity in #71 really seemed to be setting them up for their own little subplot, but in practice they've just been there doing the same things they would've done anyway even if they didn't know. I don't get what the point of that was, they might as well have found out at the same time as everyone else in this issue
I think they will still play an important role. It seems to me that this will be already in issue 74, namely they can defend Sonic from the accusation and assert that the Clean Sweep Inc is criminal, since they know perfectly well that Sonic is always trying to stop the bad guys, even if he plays the bad guy himself.
I'm just gonna say that the beginning of this issue should have been Clutch having his security take Jewel prisoner and lock her up like they did Belle and she manages to use a wrist communicator to get threw to Tangle and Whisper and they come rescue her. Also I wish Belle w more involved with Tangle and the other IDW girls. But whatever, I can always change things in my AU's. Clutch is going down.

WOW, what a mouthful you're gonna go through Mr GameDude. and again, who do we have to thank for alerting you to the next date of issue 74's release? yours truly
HOLY CRAP!
Also, Brian, you can give me your discord to my DA account via chat or note, despite you not being on DA much. Which one of my suggestions did you enjoy most and give me your honest opinions on them?
I don’t share my discord online, I looked at your suggestions, they’re fine
@@MarioKartGamerDude I understand, Brian, and thanks!
Will there be dubs of the rest of the Urban Warfare arc, Scrapnik Island story, and Issue 68?
@@landonhulett2119 Yes, no, and no
@MarioKartGamerDude more importantly silvers back blaze too
The latest covers seems to indicate to me that Clutch won’t lose so easily
Having Surge and Kit outplay the bad guys is not something I fully like though, it makes them smarter than what they actually are. Course no one won’t be dumb enough to demand answers from Sonic, yet the way things were
It almost sounded like Surge was saying that he orders Sonic’s death or something. Which, may not be good in many eyes
But yes, it’s a chapter of demanding answers. And not getting ones are pretty annoying
So
Hopefully the last chapter of this arc reveals
Are despair winning? Or has hope won?
Or will there be a bittersweet one?
kit was designed by Starline to be as smart as Tails, this is definitely in line with something he would come up with, and Surge for sure would follow through with it because she's a petty rival type.
They escaped?! 😱
To be honest, I kind of wanna see Landon burn…metaphorically
I have to agree
Great review
Let me guess, in issue 74 surge will kill everyone who are in the ship?
Why would she do that
Why would she do that? What purpose will it give her?
@@reina_harhar7815How well let me think? She was mad because she and kit descover they was controled by starline and clutch, and now they want to destroy the world and everyone how wants to control them, And now they gona blow up an city with all the people with a ship on fire along with everyone in there, and after that they gona rampage all the citys, villagers, and towns, but Surge will kill sonic befoar that, AND THEY WON'T STOP. UNTIL THE WORLD IS DEATH!
You need to stop
That's no good.
