  • The electric vehicle (EV) market is in turmoil! Hertz is selling off 30,000 EVs due to high depreciation and massive repair bills. Tesla is laying off over 10% of its global staff due to soft demand and intense price wars. Meanwhile, China's BYD offers affordable EVs, including a hatchback for under $10,000. But why are EVs sitting unsold on dealer lots for nearly one and a half times longer than hybrids?
    In This Video:
Hertz's EV Sell-Off: Understanding the depreciation and repair cost issues.
Tesla's Layoffs: Examining the impact of soft demand and price competition.
China's BYD: How they’re shaking up the market with affordable options.
EV Price Drops: The implications of falling EV prices.
Dealer Lot Pile-Up: Why EVs are lingering unsold.
Automaker Commitments: The rapid pivot towards EVs by brands like Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, and more.
The Decline in EV Enthusiasm: Why the initial euphoria has faded.
Market Analysis: Comparing EVs to hybrids and internal combustion vehicles.
    Key Models Covered:
Jaguar I-PACE: Facing a 2-year market day supply and massive depreciation.
Porsche Taycan: Struggling with a 239-day market day supply and steep depreciation.
Mercedes-Benz EQS: High pricing and complex tech contributing to a 221-day market day supply.
Mustang Mach-E: Sales decline due to competition and a 204-day market day supply.
Genesis GV60: Despite positive reviews, sitting on lots for 190 days.
Ford F150 Lightning: Production cuts and a 182-day market day supply.
Nissan Leaf: Supply chain issues and competition leading to a 161-day market day supply.
Cadillac Lyriq: Technical issues causing a 151-day market day supply.
    Why This Is Happening:
High Prices: EVs often cost more than traditional gas vehicles.
Insurance Costs: EVs are more expensive to insure.
Interest Rates: Higher rates make financing EVs more challenging.
Charging Infrastructure: Still developing and not as convenient as gas stations.
Range Anxiety: Concerns about battery life and charging availability.
Early Adopter Phase Ending: The initial surge of tech-savvy buyers has plateaued.
Join us as we break down these issues and explore the future of electric vehicles. Will EVs continue to struggle, or is there hope on the horizon? Let’s find out!

    Things to love about EVs:
    1. Child battery labor
    2. Range anxiety
    3. Risk of garage fires
    4. Paying 20k more than a comparable vehicle
    5. Battery degredation
    6. Poor resale value
    7. Reduced performance in cold, highway
    8. Higher repair costs
    9. Awful charging network experiences in the weather without restrooms
    10. Higher insurance rates
    11. Replacing tires more frequently
But hey theres a tax credit!

Lets look at Ideal in 1908, when the Model T was an ICE car that the average American could afford and many cities and towns still had laws saying when you drove in the city you had to have someone in front of you to let all the horse drawn carriages know you were coming. Was Ideal condemning those damn Model T's and all their initial flaws (even busted arms trying to start them) for the noise, physical risks and dangers to all the horses? Look, I'm no fan of EV's but they are inevitable once they reach the price/dependability levels that they will. And as for Ford and Musk, both geniuses with flaws to match (though Ford cared far more for his workers....unless they were Jewish). Every song we sing has been sung before.......

EV range is a HUGE LIE for 4 big reasons.
First: "EPA estimate", its a closed scenario, no stop and go, no lights, no traffic, no on or off ramps, just a constant smooth 45mph until the power is out, so its ALWAYS higher than reality.
Second: ev batteries are said to degrade your total range faster unless you "keep the charge between 80 and 20%", this means you effectively lose an ADDITIONAL 40% of your total range.
Third: towing obliterates your range, as does using ANY powered system such as basic stuff like the radio or ac, doing any kind of hard accelleration also runs down the battery FAST.
eg: one "launch" from stopped to 60mph costs abt 2 miles of range in a tesla model y.
Fourth: weather. a tesla model y "long range" claims epa 326 miles of range. in hot weather you get 252 miles of range assuming zero ac or radio use.
worst case is cold weather, where you get 121 miles of range, not even HALF of "epa"; (plus these two comparisons assume using 100% of the battery)
charging at home during the day when you have solar? AMAZING! its basically free!
but what abt at home at night? THE RATES ARE SKY HIGH!!
on the road? you have to go out of your way TO a charger location, wait for some other guy to finish charging (40mins to an hour or more), THEN you can start charging...for an hour
and thats assuming the charger even works!
but lets say it does, so now you're at this charger for an hour...........doing what?
what if you're on a road trip and its late at night????????? you just hang out at or inside your car? you have to keep the family from getting bored?
ev's fucking suck for anything but basic short distance LOCAL driving.

Who can afford that kind of depreciation? Especially considering the EV's aren't going to have near the lifespan of an ICE vehicle. 97% of Subaru's are still on the road after 10 years. That's simply not going to be the case with EV's which is just another reason they're not very green. I'm a hard pass. I'm getting ready to buy a new vehicle and just the thought of owning an EV is terrifying.

I'll consider buying an EV when they make EV's that don't suck. Now, having said that I'll define my terms. An EV won't suck when choosing it will not force me to make any compromises or face any quality of life reductions as opposed to buying a normal car. That meas that it would have to not cost more, and included in that cost would be a L2 home charger for home charging. That also means that when you're on a road trip that charging stations are as easy to find as gas stations. And finally, that those chargers will take no longer to fill that battery up to full capacity than the average gas pump takes to fill the 20 gallon tank on my current daily driver. That's about 2 and 1/2 minutes.
If they can offer that, I'll be willing to consider what they have to offer.

But gas cars also suck since they produce poisonous fumes and require specialized imported fuel. Hydrogen would be great, but it’s much too expensive. Everything is a compromise.

    • @ironclaw6969
      @ironclaw6969 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

@Sotelurian what the hell do you mean imported fuel? The United States is the largest producer of petroleum in the world. Not to mention, with the oil we produce from Midwest fracking zones there's less impurities, it's much easier to refine and it's less expensive because of Transport costs. Besides you didn't address any of the shortcomings of EVS that I mentioned. From a usability of standpoint they're absolute shit.

    • @Sotelurian
      @Sotelurian 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@ironclaw6969 That’s true that the US is the biggest producer, but it is still a net importer because overseas refineries produce more of what the country needs. Regardless, my point is that electricity can be produced anywhere, so you can always get it locally-gas comes from somewhere else.
Because oil has so much more energy per kilo than any battery it is still the easier option, I’m just saying that the availability of electricity is a pro in the EV column.
