I’m a 62 year old army brat..we were stationed in the desert of Arizona at Fort Huachuca in 1971 when this song came out…I could hear this album constantly down the hall courtesy of my older siblings…any song from that album always brings a smile to my face…thank you…respect…
@@jollyrodgers7272 yep…my older brother and two sisters were in high school at the time so they totally related to them…I was so lucky to listen to their music in the hall way on the old record player…respect…
Seen America twice in concert. Anything by them is going to be great. "Ventura Highway" was always the song that got the crowd on its feet. "A Horse With No Name" was a crowd favorite too.
Need to petition for America to get into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Makes me want to drive in the desert with the top down & this is playing loud on the speakers! Such a great catalog. Loving your choices in music! Stay safe out there.
America are just an amazing group with very talented people. I grew up listening to them and still listen to them. I am 63 and still enjoy listening to them. They had a great list of huge hits with this one is probably my favorite of them all from them.
I love to watch Shawn react to videos. The pure joy on your face, and the fact that you don't interrupt the video is awesome. Thank you. And this was a great video that you chose!
I was eleven when this song was released and went to Number One. I find it still very haunting. How did the subject end up in the desert? And what was the significance of his mount having no name? Did he and the horse both die in that desert? So many questions for an inquisitive child. Even though it still haunts me, I still have affectionate memories of the song and this group.
The trio met as sons of US Air Force personnel stationed in London, where they began performing live - not a bad career for military brats (said with love because I'm a military brat, met my wife on a military base as a young teen, and our son was also born on an Air Force Base.)
Back in the early seventies, my father purchased a big ass pair of headphones to match his big ass stereo system! I had never tried headphones before! This was the first song I listened to! Amazing!
1971 I was in boot camp in Great lakes Illinois for the United States Navy, in the middle of the winter on the banks of lake Michigan where the Winter wind indexes were -60 degrees. And then this came on the radio............
Just been digitalizing some America albums when this popped up in the TH-cam suggestions. I have to say that I really love some of their lesser mentioned songs such as Seasons, Saturn Nights (Hal Blaine is awesome on drums), Submarine Ladies, Glad to See You, Don't Cross the River and many more.
It's interesting because we never got to see the faces of any of these songs we heard on the radio, because unless there was a news clip on TV, or late-night shows, there was no way to see what they look like playing Live. And we knew no better, but it is cool to see what they look like on stage.
These guys were cool - especially their early stuff. This is from their first album (America) - I had it on 8 Track, took a roadtrip to FL on spring break playing this almost exclusively - until the tape tracks all bled together and we were hearing 2 or more songs at a time, finally driving my 2 buddies crazy. It's still the memory of my first independent roadtrip. I'll suggest RIVERSIDE from this album, as well as SANDMAN, DONKEY JAW, HERE, and NEVER FOUND THE TIME - and VENTURA HIGHWAY from their 2nd album, and TIN MAN from the '74 album 'Holiday'.
OKAY NOW, DID YOU HAVE TO SAY MAGIC SHAWN??? LOL 😊THEY DID A LATER SONG CALLED : YOU CAN DO MAGIC 👍 A FEW OTHERS : ONLY IN YOUR HEART, DON'T CROSS THE RIVER, LONELY PEOPLE THERE YA GO BUD!
When this song first came out I thought it was Neil Young, but soon learned otherwise. I thought it was a fine, catchy tune, but the lyrics to this day are baffling. "...for there ain't no one for to give you no pain." just makes me cringe every time. And as someone pointed out, the horse doesn't know or care about names. If it means something to you just name the damn horse. "The ocean is a desert with its life underground and the perfect disguise above." Really? That's about the dumbest description of an ocean imaginable. Nothing is underground, it's under water. What does any of this mean, anyway. Okay, well it's a pretty song, but please don't think about it cause it'll drive you as crazy as me.
I have to admit I couldn't stand this song. To this day I consider it one of the most boring songs ever written. However, I really loved America in general and thought they did some great songs. I even used to cover some of them back when I played clubs and bars, like Sister Golden Hair and I Need You (my personal favorite). But this particular one did nothing for me.
What's going on Shawn is both my comments on Aerosmith and 38 Special vids were deleted yesterday and won't be sticking around much longer if it keeps happening. This platform is as far from freedom of speech as you can get when commenting on a music review video is worthy of censorship. Just an fyi. Not blaming you
One of the stupidest songs, and stupidest bands of the 70s. Totally nonsensical lyrics, insipid guitar work, a few chords that drone on for 4 minutes without any dynamic. One of the least liked songs of my life.
America has a rich catalog of music. It’s an injustice they’re not in the Rock& Roll HOF.

They seemed to be at every outdoor summer festival back in the day. Not sure whether it was America or Three Dog Night I saw the most every summer
The sound of my childhood. Those harmonies and that bongo action are 🔥🔥🔥!
Sister Golden Hair was the quintessential summer song back in high school and now that I’m 65 it still is!!!
Saw America live at their peak, great show. The other strong tune that you haven't hit yet, "Lonely People".

You can almost hear the horse hooves on the dry ground
50 yrs later it still makes me happy to hear it.

What a great legendary band!!! Saw them in concert!! Amazing!!!!
Vivid memories of this song on my transistor radio as a kid. Walking everywhere to get anywhere. The poetry and the music made for great company
Daisy Jane!
My Daddy's nickname for me was Daisy June! ❤😊😢

Shawn, every song by America is great, I loved this band, this takes me back.👍👏👏👏🧡🧡

Fabtabulous, re-living summer songs on a beautiful summer day
Love it!
You can do magic, next, please!
I’m old school and really enjoyed the reaction…thanks Bro!

as you were going through your list ones that you've done, I remembered how much I love the song
called Daisy Jane
This is the studio version layered on top of a concert video.
Back in the day (UK) you either loved or hated this song. I hated it as soft rock; I love it now! 🤣 That's nostalgia for ya!
Going to see them in July. Think there’s only one original touring now.
Dewey and Gerry are still going, the only one missing is Dan who died years ago They are still legends and put on a good show

I used to commute between Ventura and Santa Barbara

This was their first hit song, released in 1972, I think. After this, they were off and running with many more hit songs.
Great tunes from this duo. Fabulous vocals from both members..🎤🎶
Lonely People ftw.

Always thought the lead singer sounded very much like Neil Young
