- Conditional probabilities arise when partial observation influences the probabilities of possible outcomes, for instance when an experiment is observed in real time and you reassess your chances at intermediate times. In Lecture 3 (of six we are showing) we explore this notion in the general setting of a probability space and in examples.
You can find the answer to the Henry's Dinner short from 35 minutes in to the lecture.
You can watch many other student lectures via our main Student Lectures playlist (also check out specific student lectures playlists): • Student Lectures - All...
All first and second year lectures are followed by tutorials where students meet their tutor in pairs to go through the lecture and associated problem sheet and to talk and think more about the maths. Third and fourth year lectures are followed by classes.
Honestly, I've been learning a lot of meaningful lessons from this channel. My brain is currently rotting right now. Thank you.

I recall the first year of mathematics in my old university being much harder than that. This looks like a fairly simple high school problem. I wonder what these 1st year Oxford undergrads are studying. Now that was 50 years ago, so my memory may be playing tricks but I rather doubt it.
nb. Henry is a student, so no doubt if he's "cooking" pasta for himself, then he's just pouring boiling water into a Pot Noodle after a night on the beer, probability around 99%...

Trivial stuff which is not useful in practice
Ever been to a casino?
You can say the same about 1+1 lol
First of all, the casino always wins;) But do you really think that someone, e.g. the professor in the video, is able to use this knowledge to make money in the real world?
I don't think so
Better question, do you think Wall Street can function at all without this knowledge? @@michaelsonntag1469
