    Do you mind when movies have 'anthology'-style sequels where it's a self-contained story instead of a direct continuation?

      It depends if the story in the first is necessary to continue. Otherwise, have fun creating the next story in your series.

    • @sirmang9032
      @sirmang9032 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I think there needs to be more of them. I really wish Halloween 3 had a better reception when it was released as the number of different directions that Carpenter could have gone are immense and we could have gotten some other brilliant ideas with brilliant performances. Instead we went back to the bland slasher formula with a killer and main protagonist Loomis who were, in all intents and purposes, killed off in Part 2.

    • @jasonulysess3652
      @jasonulysess3652 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If it is made with love an care I usually appreciate the effort. Most times however a producer alters a preexisting script to "make a sequel" of a popular property or a distributor alters a name to pretend it is a sequel. This practice is why it seems like most anthology style sequels are trash.

    I remember seeing House 2 when I was around 8 years old. At the time I loved it, it seemed perfectly geared to young kids to young teenagers. A mix of cute, juvenile, adventure, fantasy and creepy (mainly Slim and the final 10 minutes). I guess that’s where it works best, as a good introduction for young people into horror elements without going too dark.

    8:53 This movie came out only a month after Predator (though the story's set in 1986). Evil Dead 2 came out the same year. 1987 was a great year for movies!
    9:09 Clearly, they drew inspirado from Ray Harryhausen (not unlike Sam Raimi).
    9:14 It's a giant mole-beast.
    11:16 Correct. It's an action-comedy. If House 1 is comparable to Evil Dead 2, then House 2 is comparable to Army of Darkness.
    12:41 Practically quoting Murray Futterman.
    13:25 That character deserves his own movie just like Brad Dourif's Tucker Cleveland from Graveyard Shift.
    13:58 Thirty/Thirty was muh fave even though he was kind of a Leroy Jenkins type.
    14:55 He uses a lever-action rifle just like Ash at the end of the theatrical version of Army of Darkness. Different make and model, but still a levergun. Nothin' more fun than a levergun.
    15:31 Notice how he wields that levergun left-handed, whereas he fired that single-action revolver right-handed when attempting to duel with Slim. Maybe he missed so bad because he's left-handed. Or maybe he's cross-dominant. If your left eye is your master eye, just shoot left-handed.

The last scene was a "don't do drugs" speech from Bravestarr *in front of the kid's grave*. Pretty heavy stuff to drop in with no warning in a Saturday morning cartoon bloc.
      Scared the hell out of me as a kid, because they never specified what the drug was, so I had no idea what I was supposed to avoid. Pretty much the DARE program in a nutshell; generalized fear with no actual useful information.

    Another excellent video from Mr Tenold! I really liked the first House film.
    Brave Starr was an AWESOME cartoon. Prairie People! A robot horse with a shotgun! Marvellous!
    The stop motion dinosaurs look excellent too.
    Phantasm II! Oh my!

    I remember Brave Starr - I had the figures/the fort playset - which had its own wee jail if I am remembering correctly, the movie and colouring books too - was a pretty sweet cartoon. I was shocked when I checked up on it to see how little of it was actually produced - 1 season (+ the movie) all be it an extended one, it felt like I watched it for years back then. This cartoon is never ever mentioned - nice one Brandon - it made me remember I was big into Visionaries too at that time - toy wise anyway. Ah, nostalgia.

    Thanks for helping solve a decades long mystery for me! I had seen this movie as a kid, and distinct remember the puppets, the dinner scene and the end. Tho my mind had conflated the bird baby as some sort of zombie turkey, lol. For YEARS I've been wondering what the fuck this movie was, and the internet was no help, kept getting false hits for either the Frighteners or Meet the Feebles (of all things). Glad that's resolved!
