Drawing Black Fur with Coloured Pencils - the beginning is ugly so bear with it ;)

- In this video, I show you how I create wavy black fur with coloured pencils. I'm using Dark Grey Clairefontaine pastelmat, polychromos, pablos and museum aquarell. Be warned, there are some ugly stages, but the end result is realistic shiny wavy fur.
I always set myself expectations when drawing with coloured pencils - I know it won't look pretty at the beginning, but if I persevere it will all come good :)

its really loud when i listen to it - try ensuring the volume on the video is set to full as well as the volume on your computer

Patricia Ward that’s so weird. When I record I tend to increase the volume in my editing software so can’t understand why it’s so quiet for you

Hi Bonnie I'm relatively new to drawing and I've been asked to draw a long coated jet black German shepherd... I'm struggling... Do you have any tips please... I've used pastelmat... Drafting film and a very thick card I can't remember the brand right now...

what kind of color pencils are these because the white color pencils never able to mark over colored pencils like brown black

Great video bonny, the only problem is the struggle with black fur on white paper and I dont know how to get what you did on pastel mat to the paper I use
the_big_bang_artist 25 what paper do you use? If it’s smooth then you’ll have to preserve your whites - which for this kind of thing is tough but is doable. You could also use a knife to help
@@BonnySnowdonAcademy I use strathmore Bristol 400 series vellum paper, dont have a knife or polychromos but do have caran dache pablos
do you use a varnish like fixative if i got that right i'm allergic.

It will depend on the surface you’re using 🥰
What if the dog is mostly black with white muzzle and paws. What color Pastelmat then?
It's what you think will work best for you. You can draw black dogs on both white and black surfaces, but if the dog has white on it's face and paws then you may decide to go for a white surface instead and just use more light layers to cover the white surface for the black areas of the dog 🥰

This is a beautiful video. Your work is excellent, however, even though you show us what to do, I don't know where to put in the midtones or where I need to darken shapes. Is this something that one develops as you become more familiar with Pastelmat or fur for that matter? Because I find it very difficult to know where to even begin after the initial black in put down. I don't even know if any of this makes sense to you but I am sure there is nothing you can tell me to help me. I guess I don't have an artist's eye.

Thanks so much. I did try Jonesy's ear last night on Pastelmat and it was better. I am thinking that maybe it would be better to try a drawing that is larger than an ear or eye. Maybe I would be better able to get the 'feel' for the support. The ear looked ok. Not even close to how yours turned out. Thanks for your help, Bonny.
