Words can barely describe how much I love this movie. I was 5 years old when it came out and I was instantly hooked. There was a period of time where I watched it almost daily and entirely knew it by heart (at least in German). It made me into the car lover I am today. And over time I learned to appreciate the deeper themes and references, which made me love it even more. Thank you for this amazing reaction!
In terms of the sequels, Cars 2 is... definitely one of the movies ever made. Cars 3 however is the true sequel to the story of this movie. I only watched it rather recently and it was a very emotional experience for me, it felt like my entire was wrapped up to let me move on to the next season of life. So, I can heavily recommend watching that. But, to truly appreciate the quality of Cars 3, you almost have to watch whatever Cars 2 is. So I'd recommend watching both of them.
Fun fact about Mater since you mentioned that he's called Matthew in Bulgarian: In German he's called Hook, for obvious reasons

i saw it when it came out n i was like 6 or 7. Cars is such a great movie. However, I disagree with you on cars 2 and 3. I disliked cars 2 because the animation was worse and looked as if they had a smaller budget. The story was good at best. Cars 3 I didnt even watch the full thing because it was so fcn stupid so I just watched the final race on youtube. Cars had what the other two movies lacked; a proper story of a egotistical racer who was humbled and created lifetime friends/family, no cringy garbage, and most importantly cars 1 still had Doc Hudson. RIP

@@monaclemin4807Did you just say you only watched half of cars 3? You say it didnt have a plot like cars 1 where an egotistical racer becomes humble. So you just didnt understand the movie, AT ALL. Cars 3 plot is that mcqueen realizes hes becoming old and its time for the new generation. He can fight all, but time. He has to mature and let it happen, let a new chapter of his life begin. Its not even hard to get like are you dumb or you just wanted to see mcqueen bet everybody until he dies?

Strip Weathers is voiced by a legend racer Richard Petty aka The King himself, he is an American former stock car racing driver who competed from 1958 to 1992 in the former NASCAR Grand National and Winston Cup Series, included winning the Daytona 500 a record seven times and winning a record 27 races in one season in 1967, and His Character Weathers is an anthropomorphic version of Petty's 1970 Plymouth Superbird, sporting the same shade of blue and Petty's racing number, 43 and is also a fictionalized version of him

Despite being a kids film, Cars is like the first and probably only Pixar story to be told from an adult’s perspective. You can tell it has most of the tropes with Doc escaping his past and the background montage of how Radiator Spring first started out. That’s what makes it outstanding. Loved your reaction to Lighting’s character development.

The story of Radiator Springs ties in with how the whole idea of vacations changed. Through the 50-60s there was a cross country road in America called Route 66. And it wiggled thru many small towns as it ceossed the country. At the time, it was normal ro pack rhe family in the car and slowly travel and find all kinds of odd roadside stands on your way. Then the interstate highways were put in bypassing many small stops so everyone could get there faster.

Trivia: Why McQueen doesn't have rear-view mirrors is for a couple reasons:
    1) they produce drag, which you don't want if you're racing since drag slows you down.
    2) since race cars get into accidents on the race track, the rear view mirrors would break off and the mirrors would shatter littering the track with glass. And jagged glass plus tires is just inviting danger onto the track.
I'm not the sure if the same applies to rally cars that race on public roads, but this is the rule for NASCAR.

All time classic of Gen Z childhood. Amazing.
This is EASILY the movie I've watched most in my life. Back when I was young, I would have this on repeat. My parents said I used to HAVE to watch this movie every day for a certain period of time or I would get mad. Well, until now, I hadn't seen it in like 6 years until now. It was just as I remember, and extremely nostalgic. I can't be bothered to wonder why this movie gets the hate that it does. In fact, it's one of the best Pixar films. Idk if the nostalgia is blinding me, but for me this was (so far) one of the better Pixar films. A great character arc for Lightning McQueen, an amazing redemption for Radiator Springs, just a magical movie. I will forever hold this movie close to me and never let go. Imo, this is one of THE movies.
Fun fact: I own all 36 original car action figures from the race at the beginning.

NO JOKE: this is the film that made me who I am today. I still remember being only 3 years old when I went to see it in cinema / theater. My family and I were put right underneath the massive speaker on the wall and when you're a little kid, you don't like loud noises. So within the first 5 minutes I was running out screaming. 2 hours later I ask my parents: "can we go back a see the end of the movie" (when to run time is 90 mins) My parents laughed, we went home and the rest for me at least is history.

For me the German synchro is a bit special cause The Kings voice is actually Niki Lauda from Austria who was one of the best Formular 1 drivers ever, won the championship 3 times and was famous for always speaking up and saying nothing but exactly what he thinks. He had a big crash in 1976 where he burned his whole face and severely damaged his lung. Nobody thought he could ever race again (some more parallels to the movie)… one year later he was champion again. We Austrians loved and admired him. He died 2019. RIP Niki

What Sally told McQueen about the interstate highway system is actually true. They built the Interstate highways so people can get around faster which means small towns got bypassed and left to dry up and fade away. I've seen what's left of alot of those towns here in the U.S.. I also like what Sally said about how people didn't drive to make great time, they drove to have a great time. I love getting out of the house and going for a drive wirh no destination in mind. I like seeing where I end up and I find a lot of cool and beautiful things along the way. I've made 2 cross country road trips from Florida to Oregon and there's a lot of beautiful country here in the U.S. and there's a lot to see if you avoid using the Interstate highways

The town that radiator springs is based on is a real place near my hometown and the story is true. The town died when the interstate was built. The commerce fell apart. No joke, I made myself a car-sona, and replayed the ENTIRE MOVIE IN MY MIND with me as a Volkswagen Bug instead of Lightning McQueen!
(Except…i don’t think I’d be quite as jerky as McQueen even in the first movie…)
Same with movies 2 and 3, and I always visualized myself as my current age at the time that each movie released, meaning that I was a 7, or 8 or 9 year old classical Beetle who was VERY MUCH TOO YOUNG AND TOO SMALL to race in NASCAR, or the Piston Cup, or World Grand Prix, or Daytona/Florida 500 whatever! BUT I WAS A KID! (And still am at heart!) and hey, when Cars 3 came out, I think I was 20, so at that age, I would certainly be old enough to be a race car, though I’d more likely be a Next Gen racer rather than the legendary veteran that McQueen is in that film… BUT IT MAKES ME HAPPY TO IMAGINE MYSELF IN MCQUEEN’S TIRES!

I love this whole trilogy and I don't know if it makes sense but for some reason Cars 2 is the most re-watchable out of all these for me even tho it's not necessarily the best one.

Watch “end of Watch”. It’s the most realistic adaptation of what it’s like to be a police officer. It’s amazing.

Trixy, it may not have been a well recieved movie, but I would love to see you react to Speed Racer. Watching that, you can see where Fast and Furious began to get inspired after the fourth movie.
