Used to get home from work and stay up till easily morning to watch the replays, it was the 97 season that got me hooked and I actually remember watching parts of this race. Thanks for sharing.
From the US glad to see the entire race. BTCC would be shown in the US on Speedvision (Speed Channel) in chopped up form putting 3 races in one hour format
Back when BTCC was at its best. Al through the 90’s the racing was great. Hard racing, shoulder to shoulder nudges and rear end taps. Made the races far more exciting than they are today. Heck, I bought a Play Station and and TOCA just to play it early in the morning before races started. Great days. I always supported Jason Plato from his first drive. What a driver.
I think the whole intro is based on real footage. Example, where the laguna is right up the accords trumpet, then the quattro appears out of nowhere. I still remember seeing that to this day on Grandstand, but with different cars. What a game & series.
Sad that plato has come out of it now, he was the only one from this era to have been still in the championship. next year there will be no one from the 90s at all in the championship racing, Matt Neal i cannot see returning now at all.
You could actually have most of these cars in Gran Turismo 2. Racing modifications put them in their BTCC colours. The Peugeot 406 was the quickest and best handling, the Nissan Primera was the only BTCC estate car in the game.
I strongly feel that British touring car is number one and that the United States to ring cars fell off because they don't run too many touring cars everything is GTP GT PA and things like that and I really enjoy British touring car and I think it's number one they're using sedans and Coupes and it's just the old school way of cheering car Road endurance handling and I'm a number one for it and I supported her all times
When I was a kid in kindergarten and we were asked to draw a car most kids drew one of those square salon cars of the 70s and 80s even though they were far out of fashion by that point... ...I saw a kid draw a car the other day ... he drew an eggplant on two wheels 😞
@@andrewpowell9304 thanks Andrew, I followed the STW Cup in Germany this time as fan and part time roadie for a private BMW Team. Will not forget the roar of the machines and the pureness of the cars.
@@ropi4524 you were fortunate to be around the cars at this time I was still too young only watched the BTCC on television. The thing I’ll never forget about the BMW was the transmission screaming!
Was the greatest of championships. From a spectators point of view. From 93-98. I know these ain't homologation rules. But who agrees homologated race cars make things even better? Even if FIA say 150 productions models must be made. Would make Motorsport exciting again. P.s Australian commentators side by side with Eddie Jordan would be the perfect btcc coverage.
Not to mention that a decent amount of the tech in these cars could make it over into street versions. The engine in that Honda is closely related to the f20b used in performance variants from 97 to 01 for example. Given that the s2000 used an F series based engine as well, I assume the developments of this car had a part in that engine as well as the K series that took a lot of its engineering from the s2000 engine.
@@Talynen there far more Pros than cons. I blame Afla, after the splitter scenario teams budgets went sky high and the cars become less and less what you'd see on the road.
Always & its so annoying. He could have easily slowed down and fall in behind the Nissan as it seems the Nissan was ahead and into the corner first. Plato clearly punted Leslie off in retaliation and the move blew back up in his Plato's face so how he thinks he's the innocent one i don't know. He tried a foul move and it played out not how he thought it would
Thankyou I love British Trouing car Championship I live in Australia Shame they not do big long 80 to 70 lap races like V8 Supercars Championship they a small 3 race weekend with only one Quafiling on Saturday with race 1 and 2 one Sunday with grid back to front ?
all the btcc cars and wrc cars of 97-1999 were just fucking beautiful. just brilliant stuff
Yeah man. Which is your favourite car ? I like the Mondeo the best
Oh and the Laguna
i like them all the same actually. i can't decide a fave!

10 year old me playing Toca 2, pure golden age of racing
I was around 8, loved playing toca and watching btcc at the weekends. Damn time, you went too fast!
We were so lucky
Wow thats a blast from the past one of the best racing games of its time. Would be amazing if they remade it

Loved watching this on a Sunday afternoon as a kid!
Top notch drivers and cars in 90s. Watch thousand replay never get bored
This was the peak of Super Touring, unfortunately the end was soon near. '95 and '98 were my favourite Super Touring seasons.

Isn't that the crash from the ToCA 2 game intro at 3:00?
Brunii! It must be because I thought that as well.
yes it is. They reskinned that Laguna :)
It is!
Looks like it!

R.I.P David Leslie
This is so super furious, much love from these driving artistry💗👍
God I love and miss this type of racing 😢
Just wish they would remaster the TOCA race series I had all the toca race games on ps2 just wish they would put them on ps4 or 5
I like this era so much.
Plato turned hard left into Leslie at Redgate 😂...what a tosser
Cleland took the final two race wins in 1998 before announcing his retirement a year later
Jason Plato hasn't changed at all! :D
I went to Snetterton every year from 96 to 06, best years for touring cars
I could watch this all night every night. You got any more to upload Ian ?

The camber of the wheels on some of these cars is insane lol
I love the fact that they didn't trust Charlie Cox enough to give him a car for the lap description, in case he wrote another one off 😅
Loved these day.tickets curtacy of Yokohama tyres.proper racing..used to sit but the spitfire
you got any more of these?
Thank you for posting!
This was real racing

Plato can't help but lie through his teeth - he completely lost control and took out Leslie!
Might want to get those eyes checked. Leslie didn't leave any room and just turned in, do you suppose Plato can make his car disappear?
John Cleland, legend 👌
Ronan C Mr Beans doppelganger
I'd love to hear "the man's an animal" with Mr Bean's voice.
jason hoy in the nissan mondeo was the absolute bestest
You just got me. I love these cars. Do you know how to watch a full season?
Think Ian has playlists for each year.
Thomas. Duke video is the closest, but they're more season reviews.
Where was BMW in the BTCC this year?
They pulled their works team out of the championship after 1996, obviously no independents chose to run them either

And Trying to tell the late David Leslie how to drive. The cock.
