I continually watching old premier league matches most were fast pace, pass and go type of football with high intensity that was more entertaining than now these kind of matches are rare these days, it happens only in some champions league fixtures.
What are you two on ? Football today is much faster and fluid. Watch the second game between City and Liverpool in the 2018/19 Premier League season. There has nothing been like that in the early/mid 2000s. I have seen the FA Cup final of 2005 and 2007 (Arsenal vs United and Chelsea vs United), PL fixtures between United and Chelsea between 2005 and 2007 and the CL final of 2008, almost all of them were boring, slow and very tactical (maybe with the exception of the CL final). None of those matches come even close to the quality and speed of todays top games. I have also seen the game between United and Chelsea in the FA Cup of 2020 and even though United was pretty poor, the overall game was much more fluid and more watchable than the FA Cup final of 2007.
@@positional_play fluid and fast because today's average players are technically very good (not saying there were no good technical players) but you can't compare intensity of premier league of those era ,today Liverpool Leeds United are the some of the teams that rely upon intensity that's why Jurgen Klopp's team don't perform that well in their 3rd season as compare to initial seasons be it Dortmund or Liverpool....... Watch 1999 FA cup Manchester United vs arsenal replay for 120 min. You can't compare intensity of that match to any other match (only in world cup and international matches you see that kind of intensity and only if top teams are playing) watch any Chelsea matches of pre Abramovich era of late 90s and early 2000s, any UEFA match between Juve and Manchester United between in late 90s, any Liverpool matches of late 90s or early 2000s....... Even world cups watch baggio's Italy vs Nigeria , 1990 world cup Germany vs Netherlands , 1990 world cup Brazil vs Argentina. The intensity of matches of 90s and early 2000s were great. Today you only see few matches with that intensity but those days average matches were too intense as compare to today's average matches , Mourinho's Chelsea had played one of most entertaining football in mid 2000s they had bad luck in champions league but they did very well when it comes to domestic football, watch any Manchester United vs arsenal till 2003-2004 specially first three seasons of Arsene Wenger.
Sure, the game is softer now, but at least not every fourth or fifth pass is a shitty long ball even though the player on the ball is not even under pressure. Today, teams try to play out DESPITE being under pressure. So much more comfortable to watch.
@@positional_play they were playing simple pass and go direct attacking football with solid defence , possession based football was not the Norm even with far superior players they were playing with Direct approach.
Its normal to lose a ball when both teams play high pressing football not to mention the quality of every players on that pitch from both teams. I can tell you used to MLS i guess.
