    Small clarity on the attack move piece. Attack move is actually present in og StarCraft (In all my years playing the OG game I never used it LOL. But to clarity I think it's more effective on the N64 version) Apolgies for the slight confusion).

  • @RandomizerYevhen
    @RandomizerYevhen ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Interesting video.
    One note: in PC version player can attack-move - either by clicking the 'Attack' button on command card and left-clicking on the minimap or terrain, or by pressing the shortcut key for 'Attack' action (default: A) and left-clicking on the minimap or terrain. These functions were available since Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, and even in some earlier RTSs for PC, like Dune II.

      I find when you use this on the PC version the units move to position first and then attack. In the N64 version they attack immediately after an enemy becomes visible. This does not feel the same as the PC version> I always find myself having to manually tell the units to attack specific units. Units in the PC version will attack when idle to note

    • @RandomizerYevhen
      @RandomizerYevhen ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Heaaaps I see - PC version really tends to have that feeling. Probably it has better coding on N64 version.

    • @Heaaaps
      @Heaaaps  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RandomizerYevhen It's actually harder to explain unless physically playing the game. It only takes one click to move and attack automatically on n64 version if this makes better sense

      Yeah. Hold position works better for shooting on the move with vultures than Attack.

      Attack move works the same way on PC. You press A before the move command.

    Love the video. One thing you didn't really touch on that only adds to the pedigree of this port is that there's 2-player split-screen multiplayer mode that actually manages to give the feel of a 1v1 PC match, just on a bit of a smaller (and slower) scale.

    • @Heaaaps
      @Heaaaps  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd love to be able to try the multiplayer. It's truelly a technical marvel to think that the multiplayer exists in this way also! Thanks for watching ☘️

    If you hold down Z you can pan the camera faster and if you hold Z and R at the same time you can bring up the global builld menu, you can also assign control groups with R and C buttons and use them with Z and C buttons

    Wish the cart wasn't super expensive, leading to emulation or heck even Nintendo Switch Online with online multiplayer [though of course the expansion and servers are not without issues]. I have been noticing more in recent years [especially around the showcase creation] how good 64 actually is, it's not that bad of a Starcraft re-release.

    I played this version emulated on my phone when I was in hospital it was pretty hard without a controller but I thought it’s pretty crazy they managed to pull this game off on the N64. The controller has alway been a bit of an odd ball but it does shine every now and again.

    5:49 I'm pretty sure Attack Move did always exist in Starcraft, and I think it's been the same since the first Warcraft. A + left click. I don't think there's an option to make right click attack move by default, though.

    • @Heaaaps
      @Heaaaps  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, just a note as per below comment: I find when you use this on the PC version the units move to position first and then attack. In the N64 version they attack immediately after an enemy becomes visible. This does not feel the same as the PC version - I always find myself having to manually tell the units to attack specific units. Units in the PC version will attack when idle to note. It also requires an additional click. In the N64 version you literally select units and use the B button, click on a location and they will automatically move and attack

  • @kyle35_36
    @kyle35_36 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    if you hold the L1 button and push any direction on the d pad it will save that location and all you have to do is push that d pad direction and instantely jump to it. also if you select a group of unit and press R1 and any of the yellow arrows then you can press the trigger button and that same yellow arrow to use or jump to that group of units for a total of four map hot keys and 4 group hot keys. thanks for the vid. im playing it now. its my favorite n 64 game I own.

    I knew that StarCraft 64 was an excellent port, but I hadn't realized that it was an RE2-level port! Do you know who did the porting duties for this? I'm almost certain it wasn't Blizzard itself.
    Also, just as someone who has recorded N64 footage in the past, I am really curious how you're capturing this footage! I've gone through a couple different N64 HDMI cords and had to use an emulator in one instance (in my defense, it was for a pre-release build of a game), so I was wondering what you used.

    • @Heaaaps
      @Heaaaps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mentioned in the video it was ported by a team called Mass Media. This was captured using S-Video from the N64 and then with S-Video to HDMI out. Pal region consoles best method of video output besides a full on HDMI mod
