In these types of situations, a baby cries or pauses when afraid. Or just simply isn't afraid because of all of the laughing adults in the room.

Reminds me of when my 2 yr old 100+ lb Rotty saw a baby for the first time in a car seat I was holding. The baby was trying to reach out and giggling and "talking". Rotty sniffed the baby's foot, stopped, backed up and walked around the kitchen island and peeked out at it from the opposite side. Like "What is that? Is that secured and safe to have in the house? I should hide at a safe distance! IT COULD EAT ME!!" 😀

The puppy is barking because he/she doesn't know what the little "thing" is and is a bit confused and afraid, that is why is barking. It is a normal behaviour in dogs, especially when puppies; when they see something for the first time and don't know it, they bark as a warning and to ask for support, so they need to be reassured....and that's why the puppy continues in keeping the distance and barking. Not all puppies do that but in this case the dog was bit afraid; it's normal. I don't know why they post videos with such title when it's not LOL.

The child was not scared or acted in a defensive way, he is a child doing child things and screams....it is us, adults that should be more sensitive and able to understand situations. Two babies of different species and the one who is more vulnerable in this situation is clearly the dog, whose behaviour mechanism is different than ours and he is showing them clearly. I simply said that the one to be reassured here was the puppy, which is true.... and I don't get why you come after me, judging. For the record, he's 9 years old now and has reached 110lbs. Yet, they're the quietest, fluffiest dogs ever. I was terrified of dogs, but I've overcome that fear thanks to him...How can you be afraid of a dog that, when you first meet him, looks like a giant Teddy Bear?
