I suggest a 75% rollback of ticket prices, an open apology to Toronto fans, and a dramatic reduction of beer/snack prices.

Matter of fact, make the beer free, that can't go wrong!

Dude if you want talk about amazing drafting, let's talk about Dallas' home grown talent: Roope Hintz, Jason Robertson, Miro Heiskanen, Jake Oettinger, Thomas Harley, Essa Lindell PLUS you got AMAZING young guys in Logan Stankoven and Wyatt Johnston. There's nothing in the Leaf system anywhere near comparable to that.
Let's face the truth: We're a badly managed team.
Shanahan, Dufas, Nonuts, Burke, Ferguson.. The Leafs have had horrible GMs and presidents in the last 20 years.. I mean Brutal.. Nonis, Burke and Fergus never went on to GM another NHL team after the Leafs.. LOL OH my bad.. Pittsburgh tried Burke then regretted it.
I'm hoping my habs take a similar route. Suzuki has a great contract which helps manage the salary cap too. I like the stars a lot for putting the time and resources into their young players.
Boston's done a decent job over the years too with guys like Swayman, Pastrnak, DeBrusk, MacAvoy, and it looks like they may have a real one in Lohrei once he does some growing too.
When the Bruins had their perfection line, Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak, one of the neat things about that line was that it was 100% homegrown talent. Bergeron played his whole career in Boston, Marchand looks headed that way as he hits the back nine of his career, and Pastrnak is on that path at the moment as well.
Knies, Cowan, Woll are all on that level.
But comparing to the Stars is pretty unfair when they’ve easily been the best drafting team in the league in the past few years. They got Robertson, Heiskanen, Oettinger all in the same draft and Johnston and Stankoven in the same draft.
Also would help if they’d keep their 1st round picks instead of trading them to get bounced in the playoffs.
@@ryanmatthew8491 Knies is not on that level just yet. I'd put him as maybe on the same level as Jake DeBrusk if I was being really generous.
Dude's career high is 35 points. Love the kid's attitude, but let's not go overboard here. I see him being a very productive and popular bottom 6 forward -- not a bad asset, but not exactly David Pastrnak.
Woll I'd rate at about the same level as Anton Khudobin once you factor in his ability to stay on the ice. I think that's a really good comparable for what Woll has shown so far, really really solid backup goalie who can start for a couplee weeks at a time if he needs to. That's a valuable player, but it's not exactly Dominik Hasek.
As for Cowan talk to me about him when he's on the Leafs roster. Hell, talk to me when he's a Marlie. Until then, he's just a prospect like hundreds.
NO BRODIE PLEASE LORD
i hope the leafs sign brodie to a 5 year contract extension

hey steve, enjoy all your videos including sdpn content. i like this kind of Q&A content throughout the offseason. gives me more reason to have any excitement for this team
When you trade marner or Tavares, you don’t need to necessarily go for players. You can always trade them for picks straight up.
“Why would they do that? They’re trying to get better”
Because you can then flip those picks for a need. Some examples are
Bo Horvat being traded for a 1st rounder and assets, those assets were then flipped to help get Filip Hronek and Nikita Zadorov. 2 huge pieces that have helped the Canucks this season.
Or the Lightning trading J.T Miller to the Canucks for a 1st and assets and then Flipping that 1st rounder Blake Coleman. Who helped add depth to a cup winning team.
There Will be teams who will gladly trade picks for Marner this off-season. Which then you can use those picks to pursue rebuilding teams with good players to help fix either the goalie situation, add a piece on defence, or add to the forward group.
shhh don't give them good ideas
If the leafs trade marner for picks they are officially the worst team management in the league.
Marner has one year left at over 10mil. I doubt any team with capspace is trading for one year of Marner. They’re gonna have to send contracts back. Leafs would be dumb to retain. Horvat and Miller were getting paid significantly less than Marner is.
Tavares isn’t getting traded. Or at least shouldn’t be. You saw the price to dump Marleau’s contract. Just wait the year out on him, Marner actually has value.
@@explorer4161 Trades shouldn't be judged for on paper value. If they do have a solid plan for flipping the picks, it could be great. Trading for short term pain can turn into major long-term gain, and I think thats what the Leafs need right now. The salary cap has changed trading. No longer is it just about trying to get as much value in return as you are giving up. The cap space freed up by swapping a Mitch Marner for draft picks can be a golden opportunity in the free agent market. The core four are not getting it done in Toronto, and even worse, their contracts are limiting the possibilities for acquiring players who might get it done.
The problem with your comment is that nobody else in the league values Marner like TO does. You’re probably going to have to give up an asset to another team for taking him. That or retain salary. Marner wouldn’t want to do it anyways and this is a contract year and he has the most lucrative winger job in the league for padding points. Most TOI, plays with best goal scorer in the world, out for last minutes with opposing goalie pulled, etc. plus he gets to play the assist/setup guy (usually centermans role) while staying on the perimeter. Not required to sacrifice his body, the list goes on.
“FFS, I don’t know what that means.” 😂
Artur Silovs definitely now he is this good and knows how to play under pressure, he has been goaltending since he was like 20 for the Latvian mens national team, he won bronze with them (for Canadians, winning bronze for country like Latvia is like winning Olympics for you ) and he has been key figure in that winning team at the age of 22. Props to Vancouver goalie scouting departement

My bare minimum is Steve replacing Shannahan
You’re right - with Shanahan in charge nothing will change. He’s been there for 10 years and in the past 8 years they’ve only won ONE first round😕
Best intro to a Steve Dangle video ever
"so far" 🤣
First, Fire Keefe (check) and hire Berube. Then, find a way to trade Marner and Tavares. Do NOT resign Samsonov, Brodie, Liljegren, Giordano. RESIGN Edmundson, Domi, Bertuzzi and then go find a true #1 Goalie, 2 HUGE defensmen and a power forward that can actually drive the net in the playoffs. Management has to put their big-boy pants on and say "Hey John, you had 6 years couldn't get out of the 1st round for 5 of them. I think we're going to go in a different direction. Please submit a short list, have a nice day"
We should keep Liljegren, Hes still not bad and under a new coach he might flourish, and is RHD.
I like it.
@@saauuccEE The only thing he cannot improve on is his height. We need bigger D and its time to stop messing around. Leafs have 3 glaring problems. 1) Goaltending 2) Defense are too small 3) No power forwards that can bully their way to the net.
People don’t seem to understand that no team is willingly taking Tavares without a) the Leafs retaining half AND b) the Leafs adding a 1st rd pick+. It’s just not worth it, ride the year out with him. Marner has value, he’s the only tradable player of the 4.
The only team that needs great D and a great goalie
I’m a new subscriber who is here because I truly LOVE watching the Leafs lose to the Bruins.
I’m here for the comedy but Steve clearly knows hockey, too.
Without knowing it, Steve Dangle did the best Homer Simpson startled yelp 😂😂😂
An interesting goalie to look at for Toronto would be Chris Driedger. He was healthy (39 GP) and played well (% .917) in AHL this year. Would have been on the Kraken if not for Daccord's miracle run. The guy's only 29 and could be a nice low risk - high reward signing for a goalie who was great in the NHL pre injury.
Combine Toronto with Detroit and we can all enjoy some Maple Wings- they will definintely bring the "sauce".
Get those maple wings delivered by a UPS/FedEx combo called Fedup
I'd call them the Red Leafs. Strong in the fall, crap come springtime

Awesome video
Great Video, Steve, You really broke it all down so clearly and concisely. I liked the fact you acknowledged that losing Marner and/or Tavares would be difficult. One question: Do you think Marner can get over the hump under a new, perhaps tougher coach? Brian Burke seems to think so, and suggests the Leafs would be nuts to get rid of him. Second Question: Since John Tavares' life-long dream was to play for the Leafs, and win a cup here, what are the odds of him accepting a trade? Where would he go?
Keith "I've only been here for 4 weeks" Pelley has it under control I'm sure.

Zamboni driver should be leafs back-up goalie.
At this point he’d be overqualified
Now a zamboni lawn mower.
silovs for van is top goalie prospect he was gonna develop in the farm for a year or 2. Absolute stud
The Leafs had the misfortune of injuries, players just back from injuries, sick players, players just back from sickness. Just about every one of them key to the teams "playing harmony". It was almost like watching the boy at the Duke trying to plug all the holes with his fingers while the Dyke keeps springing new holes.
I wonder if Marner or Tavares end up in Utah, San Jose, or Anaheim… Kinda think it’d be worth a look for Detroit on Marner at least depending on what Raymond and Seider extensions look like plus if Kane comes back or not at a higher salary. If not Detroit though those two teams make the most sense money wise and Utah is gonna be looking to make a big splash to get fans in the seats there.
One coach that is out there and not getting much if any conversation is... 20 playoff season appearances and has only lost in the 1st round ONLY 3 times. 3 time Stanley Cup Champion. 6 Time Conference Finals... I'm talking Joel Quenneville. If the Leafs wanted him, the NHL would permit it. I'm pretty sure leafs fans would overlook past behaviour for a chance to advance past the 1st round.
Hire Gregory Campbell.
He's the AGM of the Panthers. Wonder why they're hardly getting calls.
Matt Murray and Woll LOL
Pretty solid assessment IMO I don't mind moving on from marner and Tavares if it gets us some good picks and a few young guys. I've been thinking aboutba marner and some sort of mix of prospects for saros. I know he is a top notch goalie but marner is going to explode on that roster. I'm not sure about Tavares he needs to be a 3rd line guy at this point but who is going to pony up for him?
Speaking of jerseys, create a modernized version of the Sundin era 3rd jersey. Basically the current away jersey but with blue shoulders.
Steve has tattoos?? I learning more and more about this guy.
Can you please make a video about the image trade in about Mitch Marner?
They need to find a way to move some of their big 4. But since they have no trade clauses it would be difficult. Marner and Tavares should be the next ones to go. I'm surprised Shanahan is still there. Assumed a lot of management would go.
As Marvin once said “man. I don’t even have an opinion “. But the pain is great. 58 and counting.
Marvin got his head blown off like four seconds after not having an opinion. Always wondered if that was some Mr Miyagi shit. "Walk on right side, okay. Walk on left side, okay. Walk in middle, *smash*."
Am I wrong to say DO NOTHING other than hire a new coaching staff, don’t sign or trade Marner, let Tavares finish his last year… and re-assess in January next year? Even if the UFA’s walk it just leaves room for discovered talent like McMann and Robertson to shine.
2 years and Mathews needs another contract. I'm not sayin ur wrong but that probably makes next year a wash. Anyway they'll never do what I want---never have---so maby ur right
I'm actually thinking about this too. Don't ruin everything with Tavares, he could be extremely useful on a cheap contract like Spezza was. You got Cowan and Minten coming up soon too. The 2 buds you said plus like Holmberg and Knies will be better next year.
Well I do think that they need to address the net.
Also, they have some holes on blue line.
I hope they re sign Domi.
I don't mind keeping Tavares after contract done on a team friendly deal.
I agree with you. You ride it out a year, be bad next near, and then you lose jt contract, fuck resigning him he's an old bum now. The problem with that plan is you have nothing to trade, so you need to fill the holes in free agency which is very hard, and almost always you overpay for people in free agency. That being said, what do we need...
A goalie? And a top 2 d? What else do you want as a fan? Anyone saying lose marner for any reason other than we got exactly what we needed from him is an idiot imo.
Only way I’d keep Marner is if there’s no possible trades that are worthwhile or he won’t waive his NMC. Letting him walk for nothing and wasting another year of Matthews contract would be awful.
Tavares should not be moved whatsoever. They’d have to retain AND add a 1st rd pick+. Fuck that.
Big mistake not trading Nylander last summer. His value was never higher. Yeah he has the occasional good playoff game but is one dimensional and is a complete liability on defence. He will never be more motivated than he was this year trying to score a contract and predictably disappeared the day after he got that contract. Marner is overpaid but he is the far better overall player and still has outproduced every other Leaf the last 6 years in the playoffs.
So you want to trade the guy who shows up in the playoffs and keep the guy who consistently disappears after game 82.
Look at how many of Marner’s playoff points came in the first few games vs Tampa last postseason. It really inflated his stats.
...please tell me you got those two names mixed up... Otherwise I don't know what on God's green earth you are watching lol
That's brilliant, you should be the next leaf GM. This comment from a Bruins fan.
Is this Paul Marner’s burner?
Yeah big mistake not trading their best player...
I wonder if demko will be on the market with Silvos recent success . Both of them are starters unless they are planing to doing the Ullmark / Swayman split with them next year. Could the leafs maybe acquire Demko
1. You could probably trade a 3rd for Silovs or sign de smith problem solved there
2. if you go into next season with the Marlies having a tandem of Akhtyamov and Hildeby thats pretty solid considering they will be decent options to come up and play should you need it for injury purposes
3. Any Marner trade I'd say find players who have 2-3 years on their ELC's that you can use for cheap that have some potential
Another goalie Toronto could go after is Desmith (not sure Vancouver plans to resign him with how Silovs is playing, although Demko has been injury prone so having 3 competent goalies might be good for Vancouver)
What about playing for the Grey Cup?
Bro loves mustard on his cupcakes
I wonder if the leafs may be better holdong off marner until trade deadline next year .. would they get a better offer as opposed to this offseason when other teams know they can low ball
Find a 1st pairing Dman that can quarterback the powerplay.
Hire Gibbons! John Gibbons!
Steve, what do you think about keefe going to NJ? As a diehard fan I have many people in and out of our black and red group saying keefe would be a terrible pick for us.
Leafs need a partner for Rielly and McCabe. Solidify our top 4. We desperately need a shot and secondary scoring from the point. I think a lot off playoff type goals are scored off tip ins and rebounds. Sort out our bottom pairing with Edmunson/Benoit and Liljgren/Lyubushkin
Wonder what you would rate Swayman between 1-128. top 20 at least.
They did do a green St Pat's jersey, i seen Mats Sundin wear it
As a non-leaf fan (pens fan). I think traded both Marner and Tavares would be ideal, although im unsure how legitimate that idea is.
Trade marner to nashville or calgary for Saros or Markstrom plus either some depth or picks to retain cap space. Then trade tavares to somewhere for hopefully a younger top 6 dman and maybe couple prospects.
If you can trade both of them to get a starting goalie, young top 6 dman, and about 10M in cap space i think that would be huge.
Spend that 10M to resign domi and bring in a legit 3C. Revamp the Dcore a bit and become deeper. The cup isn't won by teams with 1 or 2 good lines, they are all deep teams with at least good goaltending.
We got weapons to go upfront w the young guys coming up.. We need to focus heavy this offszn on fixing that dline, get rielly a nice defensive D to play with! Maybe pull a knights n sign a cpl guys to cheap contracts like talbot, jones back maybe. run them 2 w woll and bring up hilldeby for a few games check him out but next year is the offszn for FA Goalies
Tavares will be the only one moved, as marner has a nmc so the chances he moves... unlikely. So think of it this way, tavares will be the "cap casualty" and he will be the one moved. Watch it happen, and wont get much for him because of his performance and his age.
Nice clean lions 🦁 tattoo
I know this one is probably highly unlikely, almost impossible really, but would it be possible for the Leafs to somehow get Linus Ullmark as their new starter? I know someone like Gibson or even Markstrom seem much more likely since they aren’t from a divisional rival, but would there even be the slightest chance of that happening? And what would it cost to make it happen?
20:17 They got Trouba in a trade with the Jets for Pionk and a pick.
19:10 Wild looking to move G Gustavsson and has solid D pieces, they also need a skilled Winger like Marner for Krill - could be a win win
Bring back hat picks and dang it’s next season!
The Leafs should stop ignoring their main issues:
1) Marner needs mentorship - to adjust for playoff officiating, back check all the way to the Leafs net on a rush, and to play his heart out for Leaf Fans (not just for being treated as a God in Toronto)
2) Release Shanny as he is a redundant now
3) Give Matthews the opportunity to be an elite playoff winger
4) Move JT to the 3rd line where the play is slower
5) Protect Morgan on defence - play him in the 3 to 5 d man spot now
6) Start developing new Leafs to complement the Core 4
7) With good Leaf Executives in 2 to 3 years the Leafs might be in development position to compete. Ordering this Leaf Team to win right now - is like charging the wrong cannon in a war 😀
Sounds good...Does this mean you trust Brad after one year not to get fleeced by trading these guys? Question If both these players agreed to much less in their new contracts how much would they have to drop for you to consider this idea. Yes we would be stuck with these contracts for 1 more year so what do you believe would be worth considering this?
I see Steve has reached the Denial & Justification stage of Grief regarding the Leafs keeping Shannahan around lol.
9:33 FFS is For Freak’s Sake
For fucks sake, this isn't kindergarten we can swear.
@@explorer4161Ok but you didn’t have to say it
Aside from moving on from some of your guys, I really don’t know where the Leafs go from here, I’d like to think that it hinges on what the coaching staff would like, but even as a Sabres fan I know it’s whatever the board is comfortable with.
So I'm not the only Villach nativ watching thisvl channel...came forvthe drama too, we 2 should meet up 😂
I think moving Marner remains you best option with changes at D to better support Reilly who I also expect to stay.
I don’t know about conversations behind the scenes but if you moved Marner this year and kept Tavares but the signed him to something very friendly don’t you still want that captain? Tavares at $3M or 2 or less? Who knows but then next year you get that cap flexibility and you still have this guy who wants to be here.
It would be a good time to reveal they had their fingers crossed with that hyman trade
Steve is our version of Jack Edwards, loved by leaf fans, but I can see how other fan bases might not be a fan.
They will make you a believer first and then make you a dreamer. The behind is a reconstruction of the maple leaf.
"Leafs fans need to get comfortable with the idea of being uncomfortable" HAHAHAHAHA - *sobs into his pillow*
Question: Do the Leafs consider retaining salary just to get Marner/Tavares off the books? Or to maximize their return? It would only be for one year.
I wouldn't mind them losing again and again but to answer the question, I'd try to keep the roster more or less intact and see if the new coach can elevate them to the next level. If not, then it's time to start trading.
Just with UFA signings this could be the deep and balanced Leafs lineup: (you can trade for playoffs types and special teams (and move up in the draft), but be careful of too much turnover):
Team Blue:
Robertson Matthews Marner
McMann (Domi) Jarnkrok
Dewar Kampf Minten
McCabe Liljegren
Benoit Timmins
Woll
Team White:
Gregor C. Stephenson Nylander
Knies Tavares Cowen
Steeves Holmberg Reaves
Rielly Pesce
Zadarov (Lyubushkin)
Talbot
I don’t think the leafs should trade marner
So glad the person most responsible for the bruin’s 2011 cup, then the current Ranger’s roster, is now the Habs president.
Renovation is being done for next year on Events Level
One thing the Leafs should NOT do is continue to trade away draft picks and prospects. They don't have a pick until the 5th round next year. Any trade involving Marner must include at least 1 first round pick (from the team acquiring Marner).
