This is the first video of a new series of building my 1969 Mercury Cougar. In this episode we do a full walk around of the car, introduce the build, and start teardown.
You could get a 4 speed from the factory. If you change you should go with a 5 speed. If you use a painless wiring harness you will loose the sequential tail lights. The coolest part of the car.
That is not electronic ignition it is a replacement voltage regulator. You can put the old style cover on it but no need to change it. That car has the original rear bumper that hasn't been poked. Notice that it has a V shape to it. If you send it to be rechromed, it will come back straight and won't fit the car correctly. Are you certain it is not an FMX trans? that would have been stock most likely but it's possible it came with a C6. Nice, no vinyl top standard cougar. It would make a great Eliminator clone.
That should be a H code 351 Windsor and a Fmx transmission i have the same year car and if a m code 351 is in there someone put in there and cougars did come 4sp
I have a farm find 69 Mercury Cougar in very good condition. Complete car with original motor. I rescued it about a year and half ago and it's in my driveway. Contact me if you're interested. I have pictures upon request .
This is a really cool car I hadn't even heard of before
My Cougar was built with a 351W, M code and a manual transmission. About 3% of them built in 1969 came with manual transmissions.
I saw that Scout parked next to the Cougar
