Such a cool tractor! I’ve never opened an 820 yet but I thought I heard they had four shift keys? I have an 820 that I’m still sitting on waiting for the perfect place to put it. It has a three-quarter inch input shaft and it’s not tapered orstepped down like yours. Anyway, I hope to see it back up and running soon!
@@Tennesseemountainhomestead they have 4 shift keys, but I was full throttle and dumped the clutch, and it was in-between gears and slammed into 3rd. I don't think it liked that.
@@Mo_2118 no that wasn’t good! I’m no engineer and this is my guess, but I think the shift keys were designed to be a failsafe or wear item. The gear sets in these style transmissions are always meshed and seem to be very strong. But, I don’t know! If the keys aren’t actually broken, they may just be rounded out and slipping under their gear when engaged. It happened on an 801 we have recently. Good luck with it and hopefully it’s a simple fix. The keys are fairly inexpensive too.
@Tennesseemountainhomestead I have another 820 in rough shape with the exact same model code, I'll just gut the 2 to make 1 good one if I have to. It should be fine for now, what it's doing is sometimes spinning the input in neutral, and I have to pop it in and back out again to make it stop. It's weird

That’s some of the reasons I don’t like the manuals is cause of the shift keys, but great video!

The Big Un' is an awesome tractor, wish I had one. Maybe I'll get one eventually. By the way, in the thumbnail it looks orange for some reason.
