Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.

Just so everyone knows, the tires were not piled there to burn. Our county does a biannual tire collection and that was the pile waiting for the collection to happen.
At our farm an old tire may be a critical component of getting a brush pile burning😮
Stump piles are a pain to get going
New York had a no burn band but people still do it

We've never had good luck pinning concrete slabs together, always cracks and breaks were the pins are, we stopped doing it about 20 years ago.

Fire bad. Very bad well most of the time. However I must say I love a good bonfire in the fall. Absolutely love it.

I don't know if you realize it or not but when you're wearing your camera out the front windshield of the pickup you can see your speedometer you're going quite fast to the fire with no lights or something... On a side note don't forget to donate to all the volunteer departments that showed up to put your words and now I'm burntables out greatly appreciated... In New York state there's a burn ban till and burn barrels have been outlawed... You must live in a much better state..

Looks to me you just had a controlled burn in your woods next year the brush should be nice and thick, good deer habitat. You are planting corn next to it next year? Theyll love that!
Seriously folk: Just a reminder to support your local fire department those guys and gales are truly dedicated to their job.
Where I am from a fire like that usually comes with a bill from the fire department for the cost of their services. Judging from the response that could be a good one.

Are woods better off when a ground fire goes through and eliminates small limbs and leaves? Was that ANOTHER burn pile by the well / electricial panel???
It is but not ours. We don't own that barn or house lot.

Hate to see that bill they send ya. Have them send to Brock 😂 nah joking that is what insurance is for. I had a ride in the ambulance and they sent my insurance the bill for $1500.00 for a 1 mile trip the good part is insurance paid all but 200 so I owe them that $200 when I get the bill thankful they have those services available for sure. I’d be happy to pay them anytime we are in need. Thank Brock for you service.

like another guy said abought the epa i had a hydro line on my sprayer blow on a county road 3yrs ago the fire dept was called by a police officer and our county emergence management came with a truck load of oil dry and cleaned up around 40 gallons of hyd oil which i had no problem with but what did not make no sense was they swept the oil dry right into the road side ditch and i got billed 2500.00 for it.
Nathan, Do you and your dad need to be licensed or carry a certification to spray or inject chemicals on your plants or into your soil? Are the regulations different between the 2 different states you farm on?
Yes both dad and I have pesticide applicators licenses

So it's time to start recycling! In norway that would be an instant "ticket" from the police, 1 for burning stuff you shouldn't burn and 1 for causing an unnecessary alarm at the fire department😅 tickets ranging from 1000$ for a private property ovner up to 20k++ for industry plants

Norway has a fire ban from 15th april to 15th september. Things you can do in that period is making a fire in a premade firepit at campsites, make a ordinary campfire when hiking if there's no chance for it to spread, like a recent rain shower etc. You can burn brushpiles, stumps etc and straw on fields, but you have to call the fire department and tell them what you are doing. People are calling fire departments for nothing these days and everybody is a Karen😂 Lightning strikes happens, but are pretty easy to investigate and get to the bottom of. Let's say if you burn dry grass around your house and you have to call the fire department because it got wild and you where afraid of your house.. You will get a ticket. And if you house burns you got some explaing to do to your insurance company.. In especially dry years that leeway/slack explained over gets pulled and there is and abseloute fire ban, in such cases they will ban coal/gas grills in housing zones.. ⛔
