- Louisiana has become the first state to require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public school classroom.
Republican Governor Jeff Landry signed HB71 into law on Wednesday after it passed in the Louisiana Senate in a 30-8 vote and then passed in the state House by a 79-16 vote last month.
The American Civil Liberties Union vows to challenge the law, and the case could go to the U.S. Supreme Court.
If the law survives legal challenges, every Louisiana classroom from kindergarten to the university level, which receives state funding, will be required to display the commandments "on a poster or framed document that is at least eleven inches by fourteen inches." The commandments displays would be paid for by private donations so the state isn't funding them.

Scratching my head… Louisiana gives free breakfast and lunch and food stamps for the summer. What state are you talking about? It’s a lot wrong with this state but that’s just a flat out lie.
Also, isn’t it the PARENTS who need to feed children? I don’t get why Americans won’t give their children healthy lunch. Parents should parent, provide food for your child.
I think that making lunch for every child (or even just several of the children) in school every single school day probably would cost exponentially more than just printing out one poster for every classroom does.

What about the parents? They need to be modeling these commandments for their children or else the children will not practice them at school. Parents/caregivers are a child’s first teacher. It’s already a struggle to get students to follow basic instructions in class.

(elementary to the university) Since the 1960's we've stripped that part of our national heritage. Now our kids are more lost, angry and confused than ever. Our kids are taught that the highest identity that they have is a sexual one. A few days ago I watched a video of middle school students complaining that other students are now identifying as animals, biting and scratching them.
Lest we also forget that the majority of our public-school students nationwide are not proficient in reading, writing, math, science, and history. Secularism has been a dumbing down agency in our culture.

They should then write them in their entirety. Not just abbreviated words. Write them exactly as God wrote them and they will make a more powerful statement of what God expected for his people. All 10 are exactly written in stone for a reason. Especially the fourth commandment in Exodus 20 versus 8- 11.

Almost every one of the founding fathers was deeply religious and so was American culture. They would not be disappointed. The intention behind the separation of church and state was for the government not to rule over religious matters because God is above the government. I'm glad the founding fathers made so many decisions based on their religious beliefs, like declaring the existence of human rights. It was not the foundation of this country. “One nation under God” was added in 1954. The founding fathers stressed a separation of church and state to ensure a freedom in religion and government. Thomas Jefferson (a deist) is quoted as saying “And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter.”

Separation of Church and State is part of what this Country was Founded on and you never have been exposed to religious dogma at public schools. While it was wrong of them back then, you should have figured out separation of Church and State on your own by now.

Why force the 10 commandments but not the bill of rights nor Declaration of Independence? This not even mentioning the fact Louisiana ranks 47th in nation for education. 1st commandment obviously violates the establishment clause cause it requires worship to a single deity that is the Hebrew warrior god. As a Hindu, I definitely think this law is unconstitutional because it explicitly requires religious instruction. Also historians agree, 10 commandments origin lies in the Egyptian 42 confessions of Ma’at so the commandments are not even the original source material.
America was founded upon one single principle:
SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. A principle much older than the Constitution itself (Rhode Island, 1636).
Separation of church and state is EXPLICITLY WRITTEN IN, and STRICTLY MANDATED BY, the First Amendment.
("...no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...")
Any more info about it? I hear it here and there, but haven't really looked into it. Also, I get the feeling that it contradicts itself. By religion, I see it as a worldview. So by worldly standards, schools and what not still promote religion. Whether it be the religion of self, being in one mindset, atheism, agnostic; could be more. Doesn't have to be preached. These are my observations.

The same way lgbtq flags, banners, posters, etc are displayed everywhere regardless of people’s religion, the 10 commandments should also be displayed

The students will see that a man the country voted for, Trump, broke them brazenly and will not think the commandments are needed to get far in America...or be a Christian...or get rich. That's the message. It's degrading the important message that should remain in churches.

The god from Christianity. Which is a religion. A religion different from other beliefs. So you're not forcing church, but you are forcing religion. (And yes, it is forcing. You're showing kids of all religions something religion-specific in an environment where they're learning and getting *very influenced* by their surroundings, including in this case the ten commandments.)

Are you aware that the laws of this country are based on the commandments of the Bible? Even down to the 7 year record keeping of debts. After seven years most debts fall off your credit report.. there are some exceptions.. but that rule was put into place by the government based on Biblical scripture. Per the scriptures debts were to be forgiven after seven years.❤️

You need to realise you don't exist in this world by yourself and if you expect people to respect your beliefs you should start by according to others the same grace.
The very essence of faith and what makes it meaningful is the fact you can freely chose to emerse yourself in it. When religion gets mixed up with politics it becomes desecrated, just look at many islamic countries. Religion becomes a tool to be manipulated and used on the population for selfish agendas and ultimately harms the people. It ceases being an expression of freedom of choice and becomes an active threat to that very concept.

If a school WANTS to display The 10 Commandments, they should be allowed to. But display them by FORCE!? I don’t know if that’s such a good idea.
