I feel Spealler. I've had those cramps in the obstacle course of 24 KM I did earlier this summer. The swim was in the middle of the course, I got out, started running few meters and my legs cramped up so hard I had to sit down and stretch. Hurts like hell too, I was so for few days after the event from those cramps.
I'm quite surprised not a single one was able to keep a consistent run, what with the fact some have half marathon/triathlon backgrounds. It really is hard to keep the runner's ability with the muscle that is needed for the games.
"You can't really draw a parallel to triathlon because it's uneven terrain and a beach swim." 1) Off-road tri is a thing. 2) A lot of races have a beach swim. No, this isn't the same as triathlon, but not for the reasons stated.
They surely would've been crushed by lots of specialists during this kind of event, but the simple fact that they're able to do it all day after day in so many disciplines is really inspirational.
Up and Over "Iron Mike", across the "Alpha Shelf", and down the "Trail of Tears". I've done that run before. After a swim and bike, FORGET IT!!! That's why I love Crossfit.
Should have made them do the swim in full cammies with a 80 pound water proofed pack and made them swim a mile and a half out and back, we did that every Friday from Del-Mar harbor. If you were first you didn't have to do the post fin punishment. Good job to everyone who ran this even if it a few years late.
Brian McGranahan how do they not have endurance? These guys aren't training to run an iron man every weekend, but they definitely have incredibly high endurance, especially compared to the average American.
No, I think you're mistaken. I was about 200m ahead of everyone on the tugboat swim ;). Crossfit people are very fit but their swimming was funny to watch. Muscles don't = good at swimming. Don't take things so personal :)
you are not wrong. but that's also not the point of crossfit. If you want long distance cardio endurance, do a triathlon. However....I dare you to go try this without having amazing cardiovascular endurance.
aarongray635 lol are you 200 pounds of mostly muscle? Do you know how hard it is to do anything with that kind of weight. On top of that theyre more explosive strength, not hour long runs, swims and bikes
The race starts with a 700-meter ocean swim with fins, followed by an 8-kilometer bike ride across undulating terrain and soft sand, and finishes with a 11.3-kilometer run across steep hills and more than 427 meters of elevation gain. In 1:57:33 for the first place. That is after they participated in several other courses over the previous few days and will continue just an hour after finishing this.
blackfox1320 Guess it depends on how you define "fit". But I do agree, their endurance is not really what you would expect from the "fittest" on earth. And on top of that, Rich Froning and most of the top finishing athletes every year never do well on the endurance part of the games.
Arrynek01 700 meters is basically a warm up, especially with fins. I really think the definition "fittest" on Earth should focus a little bit more on endurance.
blackfox1320 Why on earth would you, and others, think fitness equals the ability to run a 10k or a marathon faster and more efficiently than others? Runners can't do shit except run. Cyclists can't do shit except ride.
You so-called runners have to understand that not all athletes are able to run like you probably because they are into different sports. If you judge a runner by his ability to do gymnastics or lift weights then it would seem like the funniest comedy show for the rest. Runners are very skinny when other kinds of athletes are extremely muscular hence, physically, they can't have the same stamina. So, you can keep your arrogance for yourself.
I'm so glad these are still up. Here I am this February 10th in the year 2021 appreciating the good ol' days of 2012.

I always love athletes who start running when they see a camera on them ;)....respect to all these athletes
Nick De Jongh that’s what you do, what you think.
Mad respect for these male + female athletes!!
Awesome coverage. Thank you and keep it up.
Awesome video! Keep'em coming please!!
This makes me think crossfit doesnt put enough emphasis on long distance cardiovascular endurance. Someone explain to me how I am wrong
Rory, great commenting man!

Its a 2 hour event for people Who Can squat 400+ pounds
Kirk Meyers lol are you 200 pounds of mostly muscle? Do you know how hard it is to do anything with that kind of weight

this is great
mad respect for these athletes. this is good shit.
bet you're a picture of perfection aren't you. Bet you could enter this and win every event no sweat.
thanks he had it coming

Красавцы одним словом,не каждый это пройдем в time
What is the casualty report ?
Does anyone know the schedule for the Games on ESPN?
tremenda competencia
not to sound nitpicky, but the Marine Corps largest training facility is in 29 Palms California.
Haha, Rich Froning 22:29 "Not in last place, gonna be out here a while . . . life is good. High five!."
In love with Foucher at 16:28
Pretty awesome effort, although flippers during the swim is a bit laim!
This is only the first event. The games have like 7 other events and they are back to back; meaning no time for actual recovery.
All Games athletes are tested for performance enhancing substances. If you have evidence to back your accusation, produce it.
great
who is this announcer?
they make the shit look easy
ChurchNewCreation lol? They are are struggling so much. Nobody is even able to run unbroken for any sort of length
Postermaestro lol are you 200 pounds of mostly muscle? Do you know how hard it is to do anything with that kind of weight

Awsome
Exactly

Good question... Probably is my guess. It's getting pretty big after all :)
are they tested for steroids?not hating.
Crossfit,
Great for:Strength, Power, Balance and Endurance, as long as your not really serious about the endurance part...lol.
Different kind of endurance. Multiple day event with many different movements.
Brian McGranahan Any kind of endurance? 2 hours+ of that shit? Don't be an idiot, please.
endurance have chicken legs and can only do endurance these guys are yoked and jack of all trades
Brian McGranahan how do they not have endurance? These guys aren't training to run an iron man every weekend, but they definitely have incredibly high endurance, especially compared to the average American.
Thanks for putting them back in the ocean. Swimming should be in more wods.
I certainly hope that the CrossFit crew picked up ALL the cups and other litter that resulted from this.
they had entire cleanup teams that followed the athletes
yes
Very hard. Great sport.
Very hard, yes. Great sport, no. No body cares you're vegan, gluten free and do cross-shit
They also had fins...
Pendleton, spelled wrong in the title. Everything else is awesome.
The moment you realize that you've hike the same mountain with 60 pounds ruck sack on your back......
Good job from this dude to cast it all by himself
This is Tim Waggoner's warmup.
Looks like Spealler got some mad chafing
Xterra Triathlon just shorter, and with fins. Arguably easier bike course.
Good to see an Aussie dominate
5:30 unbloused boots and hands in pockets = knife hand
Nevermind.
FUCKING LOVE THE CROSSFIT GAMES FUCK YES go aussie!
No, I think you're mistaken. I was about 200m ahead of everyone on the tugboat swim ;). Crossfit people are very fit but their swimming was funny to watch. Muscles don't = good at swimming. Don't take things so personal :)
Is that all
guys, guys, guys, we've just had our first wipe out :D 10:38
they're tested
so ur saying SEALs are also bull shit ?
Great first event, but the fins ruined it, they should have just let them swim it in shoes(feet protection from the rocks in/out).
you are not wrong. but that's also not the point of crossfit. If you want long distance cardio endurance, do a triathlon. However....I dare you to go try this without having amazing cardiovascular endurance.
it involves swimming
he is from iceland but lives in sweden, so he represents Europe.... so he doesn't represent his own country? american negligence....
No steroids were harmed in the making of this video, just 90% of competitors use them
aarongray635 lol are you 200 pounds of mostly muscle? Do you know how hard it is to do anything with that kind of weight. On top of that theyre more explosive strength, not hour long runs, swims and bikes
They better go back and police call those solo cups.
should be a "no littering" rule to this game
FROM ASIA??????????? Are you kidding me? Where is he from? All over?
You ignorance. It's very high. Watch all of the events.
I don't think people who do crossfit are known for their aerobic endurance.
How can they call themselves the fittest on earth when no one in this competition can run any sort of distance. They need to change the slogan ASAP.
The race starts with a 700-meter ocean swim with fins, followed by an 8-kilometer bike ride across undulating terrain and soft sand, and finishes with a 11.3-kilometer run across steep hills and more than 427 meters of elevation gain. Arrynek01 You're right, except this was the first event of the 2012 Games.
blackfox1320 Guess it depends on how you define "fit". But I do agree, their endurance is not really what you would expect from the "fittest" on earth. And on top of that, Rich Froning and most of the top finishing athletes every year never do well on the endurance part of the games.

I definately woulda cried like a lil' girl...lol,
Not sure. Why don't you try getting some tats and see if it gets you to the CF games. lol
Crossfit is heavily skewed towards strength and power. Not saying it's bad, just saying that they are really poor on the endurance part.
Postermaestro it kinda makes you wonder if it should be called "CROSS"fit
most people at my local park run do sub 20 5K that is not a good time
dampwool2000 ... that's totally fair, but do you know how many of those runners have a 1,000 lb total?
lol are you 200 pounds of mostly muscle? Do you know how hard it is to do anything with that kind of weight
Should've let the martlings do that work out with them. Would've been an easy day!
ROPERS UP!
Swim with fins - that bull shit
Drinks in a cup? Come on...
he wouldn't even be able to complete the swim
Uhm..... look at the US mens swim team -_-
except they test for it. they get tested just like any other major sport.
HaHaha. Ultimate fitness, eh;)!?! This was a cool idea but are not truly the fittest alive:)
stop walking and RUN!!!
q verguenza para el peruvian guy he couldn't do it
Laughable
lol what a disgrace
Kerrie Rodgers lol are you 200 pounds of mostly muscle? Do you know how hard it is to do anything with that kind of weight
Love watching athletes of color fail miserably in water ❤
Quality run lol. As a runner I just cringe watching them. Crossfit should not have endurance events.
You sound tough
You so-called runners have to understand that not all athletes are able to run like you probably because they are into different sports. If you judge a runner by his ability to do gymnastics or lift weights then it would seem like the funniest comedy show for the rest. How much can you squat though? Exactly.
Neal Thefs lol are you 200 pounds of mostly muscle? Do you know how hard it is to do anything with that kind of weight

Chuck Norris could do it in 1 minute
His voice is sooo annoying!
