Great review! I’m not much of a thriller reader, but this sounds juicy! The way you described the story reminded me a bit of TV show Twin Peaks.

Thanks, Shelly! There's a lot of interesting character flaws in this book that I liked. Especially that they were older characters with physical "flaws."

Great review! I’ve never read any Slaughter but I’m glad she lives up to her name in the book. I was thinking I need to add more thrillers to my reading. I’ll probably go back to your top five and start there though. You are particularly stylish in this video by the way! 👍🏻

Thanks, Mike! I'm pretty much a fashion icon at this point. 🤣 I'd love to see some thriller action on your channel. I don't think it's too off-brand. 😁

I definitely think I’m desensitised because I love reading Karin Slaughter. I’ve not read this one yet, but I really enjoy her books and I agree with you that part of reading a thriller can be about wanting to be a bit uncomfortable. I think Slaughter writes great characters as well as plots, which I think a lot of crime/thriller authors do not always achieve. Love a twisty book.

I've never read Karin Slaughter. I shall have 2 remedy that. I Like thrillers. Strange I don't read a lot of them, but when I do I usually enjoy them. So little time...So many books. LoL.

This has been recommended to me time and time again on my “Most Disturbing Books” series, so I’m very curious! I really enjoyed your comments on how it seems much more focused on an empowerment narrative. Dean Koontz’s Intensity was a lot like that. The narrative style is very taxing and exhausting, but the story was wonderful. Awesome review, as always!

This is one I will certainly pick up then - I always enjoy a namesake character in a Lydia - so thank you for a very good review. I'll be in the same trend, likely not interested in other Slaughter, cop dramas and thrillers, but this sounds like a departure closer to horror.

I read this book about three months ago and I'm thinking about doing my own review on instagram. I liked this book a lot but before Karin Slaughter, I hadn't read anything so gorey so it definitely made an impression on me. It wasn't difficult for me to read but as some who writes, there were moments, especially in the gorey parts, where I was, 'Wait...it's okay to write something like this...?' 🤣 I'd definitely recommend this book but not to a beginner thriller reader who isn't used to gore and violence.
