  • Leaving Door County and Heading to Duluth | Van Life Travels
    (EPISODE 249)
    ℹ️ About this episode:
    video, including how to find and change your cabin filter in your Mercedes Sprinter van, a place to dump your tanks for free, casinos that allow free overnight parking and more! We start off giving a quick overview of what we did that we didn’t show in last weeks video and then we make our way to Duluth, MN.
    On the way we make a stop at Ho-Chunk Gaming (a Casino) for a free overnight stay and continue our journey the next morning to Duluth. Our first day in Duluth Minnesota, we stop at the “Festival by the Lake” at Bayfront Festival Park. Then we tour Canal Park and then drive about 20 minutes away to stay the night at another casino for free overnight stay.
    This casino had a buffet that believe it or not had one of the best Prime Ribs we have ever had and was for a very good price. As we walk into the casino we noticed a concert going on and someone immediately walks up to us and gives us two free tickets that they had extra. So we quickly eat at the buffet and go back to watch the concert for a pleasant surprise. We had no idea who it was and it so happened to be, Jordan Davis! After the concert we went into a pub inside the casino that had another band playing called, Buck Wild. Michelle was feeling a little rambunctious.
    The next morning we drive back to Duluth and eat at what is now one of our favorite breakfast places, Duluth Grill. Next we drive back down to the same area we parked the day before and take a cruise on Vista Cruise for a tour of the bay.
    We hope you enjoy!

    Next time you're in upper Wisconsin and near Duluth, look up The Apostle Islands near Bayfield Wisconsin. There are stunning beaches, historic lighthouses, sandstone formations and sea caves found along The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, which are excellent for kayaking. Fabulous trail system. Exploring the archipelago on foot is so peaceful. There are your boats to get a nice overview.

    Oddly enough we traveled up the Door Peninsula on July 22. In Ephraim a couple stopped us and asked questions about how we like our Winnebago ERA. We shared some pros/cons. I said, “however if you are looking for a high quality van, you should check out those Grech van.” They smiled and said they watched a couple on TH-cam and had seen one. I said, “so do we”. Than we made small talk about your van. Little did we know you were so close by! Safe travels. Next we are headed to Duluth.

    👉🚐👍Been to Duluth a number of times, we always stay at the Marina which is located across the lift bridge and to the south, you can back up to the fence and face the harbor. It has water and electric hook ups, and watch the ships come in under the lift bridge, they do have a Dump Station available. Didn’t look like your boat tour took you by the ore docks or the coal loading station that load the ships with coal, we also went inside the building where they rotated the coal cars brought in by the BNRR. Have a Blessed Weekend! 👊

    I see you're heading back towards Duluth area. Definitely you need to spend more than a day or two. Drive up the North Shore towards Grand Marais a must. Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls, Portland Malt Shoppe (in Duluth) I could go on and on. We're heading up this Tuesday for the Bayfront Blues Fest and "camping" in the DECC parking lot. You HAVE to stop at Tobies in Hinckley on the way up to Duluth, also. So much to see and do in Norhern Minnesota! Enjoy watching you guys! Safe travels!

      We stopped at some of these locations in next weeks video. Keep in mind, we can not possibly stop at every single place anywhere we go. We have a final destination (as usual) and have a long distance to travel with many stops to choose from before we get to that final destination (Hershey RV Show) by mid Sept. Thank you for the suggestions though, we really appreciate that. However, we are usually already past these areas by the time you are watching these videos.

    The two busiest cruise ports in the world are Miami and Ft Lauderdale. Nothing but cranes. Pretty much the same story worldwide.
    The number one major exception would be Geiranger in Norway. Stunning. And on webcam right now. However, that mountain nearby is slowly sloughing into the fjord and when it lets go, that town will no longer exist.
    On a similar magnitude with Lituya Bay in Alaska.

    The beauty of the Duluth is the North Shore of Lake Superior. Duluth is an old industrial city that has been revived. US steel had plants that have long since gone. Just go north along the shore for hiking, waterfalls , light houses and cute quaint towns. Also not far from Voyagers national Park. Just Spent 2 weeks in Grand Marais, then lake country which is central Minnesota.

    • @LivinRVision

      We really enjoy traveling in a Class B now mainly because of how it has lessened stress and when traveling we can stop anywhere without worries if there will be room to turn around. Some places aren’t that big. But that is only because of the way we like to travel. We don’t like to sit in place at a campground for very long:

    Really enjoy your videos! I'm considering downsizing from a travel trailer to a van. Since you both are experts on that... am hoping for advice. Pros? Cons? Regrets?
    Thanks so much!

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you’re enjoying them! 🧡
      Everyone is different and our lifestyle is different than most since we are still working during the day and not retired yet. We give our pros and cons throughout various videos here and there which are meant for everyone to make decisions based off of their own way they want to travel and live in an RV.
      There are so many more pros than cons (to us) in this Class B (not all Class Bs have the same benefits) and it’s always hard to just blurt them all out “on the fly” as we tend to forget some when asked. So many.
      The major pros are the total hours of lithium-ion the Strada-ion has and not having to worry about finding a campground for electric. Also being so nimble and able to pull over at anything we see while traveling without the worries if there is room to get back out/turn around etc. Sometimes you see things that you don’t when you were researching before your trip and you want to stop when they just pop up as you’re driving. If you are unsure when driving something bigger, you will likely be like we were and keep on going because you don’t always get enough time to think about it or find out if there is room. You can’t always tell by a quick glance.
      Many other pros especially having everything with you all the time and still being able to park pretty much anywhere except for most parking garages.
      Just in case some wonder why we don’t comment on every comment:
      We used to be able to answer and comment to all comments, emails, privates messages on various social media accounts, but it got to the point where we have gotten too overwhelmed and just do our best and try to answer questions only. Then we started getting overwhelmed with long emails. So if everyone can, try to get as much info from the videos as you can and if there is something we have not covered, we’ll be more than happy to answer as soon as we can. We truly want to help which is why we share as much as we can in our videos. We don’t do specific topic videos very often because they don’t do well for views. Instead, we try to include helpful info throughout our videos. Thank you so much. 🧡😊🤓

    The Sprinter is diesel, isn't it? Noticed that the fuel pump handle from the first stop was yellow. I thought that meant it was E85, where green would mean diesel.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it’s diesel. Depends on the fuel station. Some green pumps don’t always mean diesel.

    Not sure why you would call it industrial. It's the 19th largest port in America and the 1000+ on cameras daily. would die to see the elevators and loading facilities. And they line up for raffles for a trip on a freighter. Especially the Paul R Tregurtha.

    Does YT flag you for including the concert music in your videos? If not, how do you get around it? I seemed to get flagged for even a little snip-it of music that may be heard. :-(

      Concert music usually does not get flagged, because it isn’t exact to the recording.

    I think that fuel station that had the free sewer dump, you should of bought fuel there. Normally it does cost to dump right? What is the incentive to allow free dumping if people won’t buy their fuel ?

      We don’t keep the camera on us for every move we make. We went inside to get some water as a thank you. You have no idea how many times we forget to film something because we are sidetracked by doing something else and in such a hurry and then think of it afterwards. Never insinuate because you never know what is going on behind doors and we can not possibly document our every move.
