I personally think the actors did amazing, they sound great together. The Clark Sisters are unmatched and NOBODY can compare to them. Karen’s voice and vocal range is crazy and Twinkie is literally a musical genius she writes, plays, sing, and teach. Anybody that can blow like that sitting down can’t be put on a list or compared to anyone. Nice video
I think the cast members have darker/heavier voices than the Clark Sisters. The main difference is the Clark Sisters sound like one voice, but they were singing together since childhood. It's almost impossible to replicate their blend.
@@deshaunx776 yup. If he had compared the it to that live performance in the movie (which has a movie concert in real life...iIt's all over TH-cam and I've owned it for about 25 years) it may have been the version they were going for.
I believe the Clark sister's tight harmony is owed to the stressin of ONE voice to them from the beginning. Dr. Moss- Clark wouldn't settle for less. It is helpful that they were siblings and had a similar tone and timber. They are the best to do it!
@Jaron... just must say THANK YOU for giving Gospel Music Artist a fair representation for Analyzes on a digital platform. Love ya so much. You did a phenomenal job.
Anyone who grew up on 80' s gospel loved the Clark Sisters. You had to song one of their songs or “attempted “ to. They were ahead of their time. They sung with such punch, pizazz, and spacing between notes. They taught a masterclass in female harmony that Motown could never teach. They did the “run” in gospel before it became popular the way it is now. As a soprano I love the richness of their voices even more so today. What they did was excellent then and now.
You can SANG my brother! Yes, I used an A for SANG! This is great too! May God continue to bless you. I am a Clark Sisters SUPER FAN for 40+ years. When I was in college in Greensboro in the 80s, even the COGIC folk used to tease me about my obsession with them. I wore that album OUT back in summer of 82. I just thank the Lord that I got to meet and talk with the ladies and Dr. Clark a few times back in the day. So Thank You for such an insightful, informative, but most of all, RESPECTFUL analysis of this musical tribute to The Clark Sisters!
So interesting to see how Christina Bell (Twinkie) did the bottom so fully here compared to her recent video of "Total Praise" where she is beyond the rafters! I would love to see you analyze that. Her range is incredible
Not gonna lie, at first I was like "hmm, I'm not going to like this" but after sitting here long enough to hear you out, I LOVE THIS!! Subscribing!!! ❤
Cant compare DNA & familiarity to an ensemble cast of strangers w/powerful "THOKES". BUT, all their voices will have you edges less. I actually enjoyed the Donald Lawrence version better, due to the clarity compared to a recording from the 80's & 90's. I would like a remastered version of their original albums.
It's good to remember that the original artists change and improve a song the more they perform it so the Clark Sisters songs sound more rich than their original recordings. I think the movie cast sounds like the Clark Sisters now (with the experience and vocal changes/maturity the Clark Sisters now have) moreso than the earlier recordings.
First of all, you have an incredible voice. I think that technology has a lot to do with the distinction of sound. The original Clark sisters were syrupy sweet. The cast had a full-bodied blend like black coffee - rich and premium. The Clark sisters in later years sound more like the actually cast with a heavier sound.
Cadmar Business Suite thank you! And technology could have played a role in it! I know that they were going for the sounds that were true to the recording(s) at the time they were originally recorded, not so mic the live versions we hear today.
All accept Raven. She was the only one hired based solely on her acting and not for her singing abilities. It made a lot of fans angry bc the sister she played (Denise) was the high and crisp soprano that stands out so clearly in all the old recordings, so they felt like it was an insult for an actress that doesn't sing to be cast to play her.
Oakland, Ca Paramount Theater --The Clark Sisters: Legends of Gospel in Concert (1983) I love the cuts with all the sisters. You gave a thorough and beautiful analysis. Thank you!!
They have the clark sound but it's more clearer and less vocal challenges they just sing their own parts and end it as they were directed to do but i still love it fr fr
I think Kierra’s voice is heavier than Karen’s so it changed to sound somewhat. It’s neither good nor bad but I noticed it. Kiki’s more of a spinto fach vs Karen who’s more lyric soprano. Both Karen and Denise had lyric voices so it made the Clark sound very different from other groups.
@@AustinnTheSingerr she's a pushed lyric..she pushes her voice to sound "stronger" which would make people think shes a spinto. Kierras voice Is actually set higher than Karen's if we're talking about belting. Karen uses her mix above e5 kierra uses mix at g#5 to A5
Family harmonies are hard to duplicate, especially as great as the Clark Sisters! They sound beautiful and its an ommage more than an replication throughly enjoyed them!❤️

I think they sound exactly alike but there's a sense of maturity and a crispier sound with the cast and I think that's because the cast is one age, don't change, because it's a movie of course. So you have to look at the difference and the voices of The Clark Sisters songs, as they were growing into women if you took the adult cast 10 years ago and sing The Clark Sisters songs what would they sound like something to think about🤔 overall they sounded like them and the songs used in the movie what's the perfect fit for the cast to sound like them.
I think the only group that can touch them or come close as far as complexity is the male group Take 6, an a capella gospel group headed by one of the lead singers Claude McKnight, Brian McKnight's brother.
Take 6 is amazing however we cannot forget 2 male gospel groups that also gave that type of feel. One would be the Winans and the second is a group the Clark Sisters were paired with a few times, Commissioned...
The real Clark Sisters sing with a lot more air under the notes than the young dolls do. But I appreciated all that good singing in the movie, they did an amazing job.

The Clark Sisters are genetically related so their vocal apparatus is more similar than any four random singers would be, This is true of all brother, sister, and even cousin acts, forever, Not only that, they have a lifetime of singing together, which the cast members do not. The Clark Sisters sound like a sweet angel chorus, almost otherworldly; the cast singers are bright, brassy, and even clashing in their tonalities. I actually think that you did a better job of mimicking the Clark Sisters sound than the cast did.
The cast group has a modern, AAVE, powerhouse sound. The sisters you can hear the way they pronounced words slightly different from their upbringing but still AAVE. And their younger voices were more gentle though still strong. Their recording shows the foundation for what belting, churchy harmonies, and gospel became today.

The Clark Sisters, aside from having beautiful tones from tenor to soprano, they also have similar tones because they are sisters. But any group can harmonize but what sets them apart and makes them so unique and beautiful is the texture and timbre they all have which gives that extra richness to their singing. Apart from basically all of them know how to sing-sing.
What would u suggest for how to get over being tone deaf? I sing alto, I've been singing alto in the church for years. I can also sing tenor and second soprano. Usually if I'm singing in the choir, whoever I'm standing next to, I will start singing their part. For example if I'm supposed to be singing alto and I'm standing next to a tenor, instead of being able to maintain my alto part, I will start singing tenor, picking up the person's note who I'm standing next to. As it relates to my tone deafness, I can NEVER find my note and come in singing harmony or I can never find my note period, whether I'm trying to sing harmony or not. I would love ur feedback on how to fix my tone deaf problem and any other feedback u have for me based on what I've shared. Thank u soooo much!!!!!!!😃😇👍🤭🥱💥💫
Hey there! This isn’t as uncommon as one may think! I had a client with similar issues! The main things is EAR TRAINING. This thing can be worked on - though it may take a while to notice a difference. So for instance... find an easy song you know that has a choir part with harmony. Just take a part of the song (like the chorus or vamp) and sing all three parts one time through - so sing the soprano part, then go back, sing the alto etc. That’s something simple you can do... the more you do it, the more you’ll be able to hear and distinguish parts.
@@jmlegrairstudio THANK U SOOOOO MUCH!!!!! I will definitely try your suggestion! Enjoyed the video and the vocal analysis but still can't help to wonder why when I first saw the in studio vocal practices of the actresses playing the roles of Jacky, Twinkie, Dorinda and Karen were singing the two songs you used in your video (name it, claim it & you brought the sunshine) why is it....how do I say this the best way.....why did Donald Lawrence take the four women/four characters-actors from the movie and coach them on two songs that was originally recorded and performed by all FIVE sisters? Why are so many excited about hearing the actresses mimic the Clark sister sound when they're clearly one woman/one voice short of recapturing that sound? LOL like each of the four featured here mimics very well to most people the sounds of the sister they were casted to play. But the "classic Clark Sister sound" was always five part Harmony from five women/sisters why wasn't he coaching five women in other words to better capture that FULL Clark SIster sound? It is obvious that Denise like the other four had a unique and distinct sound to her voice too. SMH it's sad but imo the shade given to Denise played a bigger role in the entire process of this movie than the actress playing Mattie Moss Clark is lol I would've loved to hear him coach five women to recapture that original Clark sister sound like no one was casted with the intent to sound like Denise and Niecy could sang too, Lisp and all!!

you have too compare the live performance that they did on gospel in 1982❤️
The movie artist was giving vibes for my the “one last time” album
This was sooo awesome
Thank you. Very good analysis. The cast sound wonderful.
Joy Mosley I appreciate it! Yes the cast sounded great!
Old Soul the other actress was filming another project while some of the early rehearsals took place.
You’re absolutely amazing sir; seriously
Thank you! ❤️
The real sisters sounded more natural while the cast more rehearsed. Both 🔥

GREAT JOB JARON, I'm a new subscriber because of it.
Thanks so much!
I love the Clark Sisters, but the Clark cast killed! Could it have something to do with the different times of recording? How about a live battle.
They did them proud!!!
This is a great video!! Your very talented!!
