The length of the sticks must be equal for the 90° angle you are using "i.e A&B". Your arm is fully extended at ±90° (eye level) "close one 👁️". Back up or move forward until the base and top of the tree fits just inside that 90° angle. Pace back to the front of the tree base. In this video it's ~14½ paces. My pace is ~2½ - 3 ft. So this tree height is ~36-43ft.

You have the sticks crossed and at 90 degrees to each other. Now what? Stare at the tree and start walking.

This is the best video on this subject. I know because I just watched six other videos, all of which were longer, more complicated, and much less useful than this one.

Are you putting it right up to your eye? Where do you position your stick cross to then look at the top and bottom to match the tree top and bottom?

    Does they stick length matter?
    How far from your eye?
Are you to hold the stick pieces at 90° and vertical? Just a whole lot of info missing here!
If stick length is proportional to the distance from your eye the just use your index fingers to make the 90°

Need more explanation about what you're doing with the stick cross.

Nice trick. I‘ll test, if I could cut one down without climbing. 😇😎👍

Need a close up of what he's doing with the sticks as far as how far they are away from his face.

I understand the principle but the method is left vague 🤔

I have it much easier just to cut the tree down and measured it. It much more accurate than using sticks and stuff.

No mention of how long the sticks should be. No mention of how far to hold the sticks from your eye. No mention of the distance to the tree. No verification. Annoying and unnecessary background music. Thumbs down.

It does not matter what the length of the sticks are. They need to be at 90 degrees and of equal length. You are establishing a triangle with two equal legs using the tree as one of the legs of the triangle, and the ground as the other leg. Then you can measure the ground leg and assume that it is the same length as the tree leg.

    Irritating music
