Right the instant the video started I gave you a thumbs up. HUGE respect for referring to yourself as a "stewardess". Stewards and Stewardesses were part of a long and honorable profession of taking care of _people_ , not vehicles. I hate the term "flight attendant"... makes them sound like mechanics.
So huge props for that, and I'm sure you reaction will be great to watch because you're obviously not up-tight! (can't be up-tight and enjoy this movie, lol)
    Now on to your reaction...

Actually the first term I learned for that profession was stewardess and later on flight attendant, as a non native I had no idea people don't like that term, I feel it sounds like a more old fashion word but not bad. I use flight attendant more cause I think is more common but I like stewardess more hehe

There was once an actual food poisoning outbreak on a plane in 1975 where contaminated omelets caused nearly 200 people to get sick. Fortunately, the pilots hadn’t eaten them and were able to make an emergency landing. By luck, the pilots’ biological clocks were still on Alaska time and they had ordered steak dinners instead. The incident resulted in recommendations that pilots and passengers be served different meals.

the beach love scene is based on a famous scene from "From Here to Eternity"... something I didn't noticed until recent years... in that scene... there's a freshwater _catfish_ flopping nearby.

One running gag that's dated now is the Ronald Reagan/George Zipp thing. There was a old famous inspirational (true) movie called "Knute Rockne, All American" where Ronald Reagan (US President at the time of Airplane) played a football player named George Gipp and the coach gave a famous inspirational speech to "go out there and win one for the Gipper". Most movie buffs knew/know the line well.

Fun random detail: one of the last acting jobs Leslie Nielsen had before he died was a cameo in a similar style of spoof comedy called SPANISH MOVIE, which was specifically parodying the more popular Spanish films that had become popular in the rest of the world like THE ORPHANAGE, VOLVER, THE SEA INSIDE, etc. In the teaser trailer for that film, he shows up repeating one of his famous AIRPLANE lines (albeit dubbed in Spanish by another voice artist), "I just want to tell you both good luck; we're all counting on you."

  • @WJS774
    @WJS774 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This is a classic, amazing how well it holds up today considering that an awful lot of the jokes were pop culture references to things from the '70s that nobody today knows of, and there are _still_ enough timeless jokes that it is still one of the funniest films ever made.
Fun fact, as well as being a parody of the '70s aviation disaster movies, the story is basically _exactly_ the same as the 1957 film _Zero Hour!_ (except for being a comedy instead of serious). When making it, they were concerned about getting sued by Universal (who made the _Airport_ series of disaster movies) since anything they wrote themselves would be similar to those, so they reused the story of _Zero Hour!_ (which was owned by Paramount) so that nobody could sue them.
_Airplane!_ has a sequel itself, which some people don't like as much but I think is also good.

The movie parodies Zero Hour for the overall setting. It also makes fun of the Airport franchise, the beach scene is a parody of the same scene in From Here To Eternity, the dance scene is from Saturday Night Fever and several others.Special mention of Stephen Stucker, AKA Johnny, he was a superb actor that was taken by AIDS in 1986. Gone too soon. Stephen Stucker was one of the early Hollywood actors to speak publicly about this disease and his condition. God Speed. Leslie Nielsen and Lloyd Bridges were at the end of their dramatic careers. These talented actors experienced a rebirth in comedy. I do recommend watching it more than once. Many scenes have two or three gags layered. Momma Zucker is the lady with the makeup, she has a cameo or small role in all the Zucker/Abrams films.

The older airplanes actually had ashtrays in the armrests. The only unfortunate thing about the movie is that a lot of the humor is dated. I saw this movie in a theatre when I was 16, and everybody understood the smoking/nonsmoking gag.
He says he was in the Air Force but was wearing a Navy uniform. Stayin' Alive was on a faster speed to get around the copyright.
The movie was made for $35K in 1980. Safe to say it turned a profit.
Thank you for your reaction. It's good to get an FA's point of view. I had a neighbor who was a pilot for Jet Blue and was able to confirm that no, they don't pay for service with a credit card.

A couple fun facts, the announcers arguing at the beginning were the actual main accouncers for LAX airport for many years, they were also husband and wife. This was Leslie Nelson's *first ever* comedy role. He was a serious actor before this, several of the main cast were actually, though I don't know names other than his. This movie was made in a year where smoking was illegal in some states and banned by many but not all airlines. Smoking on a plane became illegal across America soon after I believe.

I first flew on an Airplane From Orlando Florida to Las Vegas back in November 1987 Yes you really could smoke on an airplane but only after the plane reached peak altitude and there was no serious turbulence (seatbelt sign off ) or anything else wrong. It was the last year before most airlines began to ban onboard smoking shortly after around 1990 I think.

Hmm, I was under the impression that once a pilot has declared a mayday, _they_ get the last word on basically everything and ATC will move everyone else around to accommodate them. At the very least, the pilot is the one with his hands on the stick, which is the _actual_ last word about what the plane does.
And while planes can be landed by anyone using the autopilot _today,_ I don't think that the autopilots of 40 years ago were quite up to that.

    • @TequilaPrincessMx

No, we are trained mostly in what to do before, during and after someone else lands the plane during a regular landing or an emergency one, now a day are so many protocols in place to avoid running out of pilots that we are trained to help the passengers mostly, lathough that would be super fun and interesting (the trainning I mean, not to actually do it)

Too bad she had to completely remove all scenes with them, so we didn't get to see her reaction. She also removed the scene where Ted and Elaine join the Peace Corp and begin to teach the native men basic calisthenics and hand-eye coordination, then they instantly pick up how to use a basketball and begin to spin the ball on their finger tip and slam dunking. We also didn't get to see much of Johnny in the ATC center. Not sure if TH-cam specified those scenes as being offensive or our reactor cherry picked those scenes to be removed.

I am glad you came back. I am sorry the first one was taken down. I don't know why some reactions cause a problem, and others don't. The cuts are a bit cruel, and it's a little harder to follow along. In the original, we got to see more of your personality and commentary. Hopefully, there will be a bit more leniency, for future reactions. I truly enjoyed the first one. I should have saved it. I wish I had known it was going away. In ANY case, from what I remember about the first one, you were insightful. You were catching on to the film, and little got by you. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm glad you shared. I still like the airplane pendant. Hope to see more & I hope the others stay up. I'm still surprised the other was removed. • @TequilaPrincessMx
      @TequilaPrincessMx  ปีที่แล้ว

Longer cuts will always rise a copyright strike, some studios are more open and release the claim easily, others, like this one, are super jelous of their property and will deny fair use... I just rather stay on the safe side... so, most of my reactions will continue to have short cuts, but I think will suffer less if they aren't Paramount's

    1. I guess I picked the wrong week to stop watching "first time reaction" Airplane clips.
    2. This movie requires more than one watch in order to catch as much as possible. Little things to look for:
When the jet crashes into the glass a woman throws a baby into the air
Ted was an Air Force Captain, but at the bar he's wearing a Navy Lt. Uniform.
Elaine's trombone sounds like a cornet.
One of the fish was a freshwater catfish.
Captain Kramer steps out of a mirror before leaving for the airport.
The woman with the horse in bed is the creepy Captain Oveur's wife. She is also hitting on to Captain Kramer.
It's a jet but the background noise is of a prop plane.
The ambulance crashes after the plane lands.
    3. Otto/Auto pilot has his own webpage on IMDB
    4. Elaine has permission to sit on MY face.😍😋

I dread to think how many unusable takes there must have been due to cast cracking up and not being able to keep their composure!

I know, sorry for that but this studios are super strict with their content, I got this same video forced to be taken down before, didn't wanna risk it again, but as it was one of the most popular ones and requested, I still wanted to have it again :)
