Thank you for this! There aren’t many guitar tutorials of Gregory’s songs on youtube and you are one of the very few who explain them in a very clear way!

OMG.. Thank you sir.. This is precisely how I write down nearly every TH-cam song I learn. IMO, someone that needs this intricate level of instruction is not going to be able to play the song with any level of fluidity unless it's all they are practicing for weeks on end.. I don't mean to criticize, but I am guessing 90% of the people trying to learn this song (who could actually play it) would get so much more of an effective lesson if it was just broken down exactly how you have it. Maybe include the hammer ons passing notes, pull offs (you know, the more challenging parts) etc.. I very much appreciate the lesson, but IMHO, this style actually makes it harder for the vast majority of the viewers to learn and you end up having to simplify it all down to exactly how you have it written here. There are a few Tubers who have figured this out but this style is the rule where it should be the exception.... IMO. I guess ideally there would have to be 3 videos for almost every song. The complete beginner, this style, which I don't really know what you'd call it, and then the style that actually shows you the straight forward chords and notes... without all the "this string, that fret, this finger" insanity. You know, how the song will actually be played. Thank you to the poster for the lesson! And... Thank you kind sir commenter for the players chart!!
Thank you! This is the best tutorial of this song by far. Just what I needed. And I appreciate the play through video. I'll be checking out your other Gregory Alan tutorials as he is one of my favorite singer song writers.
Thanks so much, Jeff! Glad you enjoy my content. He's one of my favorites as well and one of the reasons why I started this channel in the first place.

This is so awesome! Would you be willing to release a full instrumental of this so I can sing a cover? Would mean the world. Either way, thanks for this video.
Great tutorial, for a great song. Any chance you could post a video playing the whole song through? Idk about anybody else, but it would help a ton for how I learn.
That's a great idea... This is what I did for "Time Will Tell" by GAI. Makes sense because the chord structure is so complex. I'll look into it, but don't want to promise anything!
@@hennareytutorials sounds good, thanks for the reply. I'll shoot you a 10ner on venmo if it'll help. Dont mind supporting a great artists tutorial thats actually done well. However, I think that the chorus goes to A minor if im not mistaken from looking at some live performances.
Thanks mate! But I only got paypal. Yeah, I just saw that as well. By going through the song again, I realized a couple of things that I got wrong. He also plays a Bm in the bridge instead of an D/A and some other little things I was wrong about haha. I'll include these corrections in the playthrough video :)

Hey mate, thanks for the heads up! It could be, especially the Am7. But concerning the Bm, I'm pretty sure you can see him play the regular Bm bar chord in some of his live performances. Although he probably plays it differently from time to time, I imagine...
Thank you so much!! I’m stuck on the picking the a string though. I know how to do the picking the a string but I don’t know how to make the sound after it on the 2 fret
Hey Hazel, you lift up your middle finger (or whatever finger you've got on the A string), then pick the open A string and hammer on (so quickly put it down on the A string with some force) back to the 2nd fret with whatever finger you had on there before. It's hard to explain but I hope this description helps!
Am I the only one that notices that in his full cover he plays Am and also a Bm (which is required to play the bridge correctly), but I don't see where he talks about those chords in this tutorial?
Hey man, you're definitely not the only one. As I said in the description and the pinned comment up top, I noticed a few mistakes I had made when I went through the song again for the full cover you were talking about. So if you're looking for the "right" version, you should go by the cover. For strumming and so on, you can consult this video. I hope that clears your confusion.
@@hennareytutorials thanks man! I missed the pinned comment. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something (always possible!) and secondly make sure there wasn't some other video that showed the corrections or something. Would you or someone be able to do Gregory Alan Isakov’s San Francisco from the album - That sea, the gambler? Can’t find it anywhere and it’s such a nice finger picking song.
If youre talking about that transition part, you could. The Gsus4 is pretty similar to a C, so that would work too. You can just try and see how it sounds. However, switching between the G and C so quickly could be difficult

@@hennareytutorials can’t wait to see it!! Your Gregory Alan tutorials are literally the only thing giving me life right now in these lockdown days. Thank you ❤️🙏
Hey, first you pick the E string on the G chord, then do a DU and then you lift up your finger on the 2nd fret on the a string, pick it and then hammer on with your finger back onto the second fret of the A string... Then another DU Hope, that helped!
No need to give up! Still happens to me from time to time. Try to focus on turning the back of your hand more to the front and, thereby, get more onto the tip of your fingers. It'll work eventually! Just a matter of practice :)
