Hearing David Cronenberg talk about and I quote *"Jimmy's tight in hips"* and Max getting *"fucked by televesion, which is everybody are"* is among the best laughs I had in a while. Like 5 minute straight laughter each. Oh god.
It’s pretty interesting, cronenberg mentioning that he was never interested in being prophetic in way or shape, made a movie that sorta predicted the rise of a trend of snuff/gore hounding in conjunction with the rise of homevideo entertainment. I am not talking about proper movies(videodrome and it’s peers like altered states for example,at the time, were cerebral horror movies bridging the gap between Hitchcock, grind house and 80s schlock) but what I am specifically referring is awful live footage of people being killed or tortured in some 3rd world country being shared and copied onto dozens of vhs tapes and passed around and then later shared on the internet. There is a market and a base for this kind of content, even here on TH-cam and people share that morbid curiosity, just like max in Videodrome, risking their own sanity. This stuff never let up or lost its luster. Hence why I always consider videodrome such a wonderful and relevant movie even with it’s obvious artistic interpretations of the subject matter at hand. It enhances the movie greatly but in the hands of a less skilled director this type of movie would be just pure schlock.
I remember watching public access television in the states, but it was a woman performing a self breast exam, needless to say, she exposed her bare breasts.
May I ask when was this recorded ? What year DVD release ? I want to understand when this is. I want to penetrate that moment in time with my weird horny brain and grow a new organ of magnificent sense. Thankie =^_^= P.S. I think after watching the commentary it's around 2008 or so? He talks about how it's 25 years after the release. One of my favorite movies of all time! Just got to watch it with and introduce it to a wonderful person the other night. It's incredible how much he got right - life becoming spectacle, spectacle becoming reality, fascists contriving and using that 'reality' to manipulate and harm the populus.
