  • Finally got the new shocks on my 3rd Gen 4Runner! Not without a fight though 😂 had some trouble with a bad rattle noise, got that fixed and it sat too low in the front. Added too much lift and she wouldnt align and the cv angles were too steep. I think I finally got her.. for now lol
    - 4” lift in the front
    - 3” lift in the rear
    Check out my other videos to see more info on the build!
    Check out these other videos to see it in action! If I’m gonna buy something I’m damn well gonna use it!

    Good video. I just ordered 6112s after years of saving my Pennies for the right time lol. I’m considering a half inch suspension spacer like you have now because I have a 3 inch long travel rear end too and want it to be slightly level, or slightly higher in the rear…

    Nice truck!!! Just grab 2 new front front driveshafts from Napa for under 200 bucks and you will be fine. We did it on my brothers with no high angle boots or anything and 7,000 miles + later no problems. I am in the process of lifting mine and putting wheels and tires on it, I have the parts sitting just need to finish up my work truck to make space In the garage. everything to do it I just need to swap fuel rails on my work truck to get it out of the garage and get the 4runner in.

      That’s the move! Get that lifetime warranty and swap it out for a new one she breaks! That’s really good to know that his has been going for a while like that! Pretty cool you are building one too! They are so fun man! Sounds like you’ve got your work cut out for ya with those projects haha

    Put Bilstein 5100's and OME springs on my 2000 4 Runner for a 2" lift. Also installed SPC adjustable upper control arms and lower ball joints.
    The adjustable upper control arms allows the alingment to get back to factory spec. I hada a slight vibration at 60 mph and installed a front differential drop and that got the axels back close to the factory angle and eliminated the vibration.

    Sweet rig! Tip for adjustable bilsteins, the preload notches are meant for stock springs to achieve lift as you would use “lift springs” to achieve lift instead. Preloading lift springs will make your ride harsh.
    For lift 3” is about as high as you can go with stock components as your cvs won’t be happy as seen in video

    • @AustinStout
      @AustinStout  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I bought the lift springs and shocks together as a kit so I figured it would be cherry. I’d imagine the last few notches would be much better on stock springs though! I am actually pretty happy with the ride quality! But yeah I found out the hard way on those cvs 😂 I’ve ran it for a couple thousand miles on those ones now even after they blew the grease out. Just lowered the lift a little bit and haven’t had any issues 🤘🏼

      Bro I got some suggestions for you.
      For the CV Angles, oreillys has a high angle CV joint with a yolk. Forgot the brand but it’s great stuff.
      For align, the SPC upper control arms at great. You can practically align to spec no matter how high you’re set to.

    Sorry this is my first time coming across you and your videos.. .I have a 2000 T4R Limited.. Just did my own lift on it as well.. maybe you covered this in some of your other videos but just in case not... 2 things you really need to do.. first is do a diff drop. If you dont you will rip CV boots every few months easily. Second is East Coast Gear Supply Clamshell Bushing... this will make sure your driver CV axle doesnt whine at 50+ mph.. Otherwise love your rig.. welcome to the T4R fan club!

    • @AustinStout
      @AustinStout  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Awesome! It’s always cool to hear about others doing similar mods! I did do the diff drop kit on mine but I hadn’t heard of the clamshell bushing for the driver side! One guy did mention that if you run into that whining sound it’s more likely to be a bushing or bearing in the diff instead of a wheel bearing. But yeah thanks for the info I’ll defiantly keep that in mind! 🤘🏼

    • @thomascoolidge2161
      @thomascoolidge2161 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AustinStout Yeah the bushing replaces the needle bearing that is just inside the diff where you CV axle comes in. The CV axle rides on the bearing. Apparently the stock version has a little bit of play which isnt an issue when the axle is in line with the diff but as soon as we lift the truck it puts the CV into a slight angle because of the play.. this is the cause of a whine/harmonic hum. The bushing has a slightly tighter fit and is oil infused bronze/teflon bushing. Its a simple replacement and they sell a tool that helps pull the needle bearing out. If you look it up on youtube you will see it named the ECGS bushing replacement.. apparently its recommended just about every toyota 4runner and tacoma after 96. I learned about it from Timmy the Toolmans videos. As to the diff drop I made the mistake of not putting it in thinking it wasnt necessary... first time on the interstate and got it upto around 60/70 I had the hum and then the boots on both side blew out their grease. Glad you got yours in! Im gonna go through more of your vids today and see what else you got.. like I said I like your 4runner.. its looking great!

  • @street_toyz
    @street_toyz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Your CVs went out because they were old. They were exposed to a new angle so they puked grease everywhere. I’m sure you can go back to 4.5in with new CVs and you should be fine

    • @AustinStout
      @AustinStout  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking about that. I got some aftermarket ones meant for a lift already from a place called freedom off-road. They were quite a bit cheaper than some of the other big name brands and had good reviews but I’m wondering if the specs could be a tad off 🤔

    TOYOTA Builds Great, long lasting and robust vehicles.
    BUT, UNLIKE HONDA, ACURA, JEEP, MUSTANG,SUBARU WRX CHARGERS, CHALLENGERS, NISSAN 370Z, GTR, PORSCHE 911 - TOYOTA/LEXUS are NOT meant to be modified, altered or customized.
    The only TOYOTA Product that was build to be customized/Tuned off the factory was the 1st Gen SCION TC.
    TOYOTA are not very popular with the Tuning underworld even in Japan. They are best left OEM GUYS. Look at the 3.4L 4runner engine it's stale and slow as H E L L but it will last.
    The LEXUS LC500 and the RC500, IS500 are all stale cars too.
    GUYS, Keep the 3rd Gen 4runner OEM and you will be Allright. All those mods throw off the Geometry of the vehicle in so many level.
    The only mod I recommend is the BILLSTEIN 5100 and ARB REAR LOCKERS. All the lifts and big tires are costly and will fack up your mpg. Not worth it if you ask me bro.
    TOYOTA Engineer knew what they were doing that's why this rigs have lasted over 2 decades and still going.
    By comparison, try and find a 20 year old FORD EXPLORER, MERCEDES ML, BMW X5 They all look like crap. They aren't build to withstand the TEST of TIMES.
    The CHEVROLET 2DR Z71 maybe but still not anywhere close to the 3rd Gen 4runner or even a 100, 200 LANDCRUISER series.

      I agree toyota does build some of the most long lasting vehicles! I’m stoked with mine. As soon as you start dickin with performance add ons you inevitably reduce the longevity though 😂

      @@AustinStout Lets just say I feel your pain. I installed a dobinson kit plus spc uppers and about 3 days later the front passenger strut pissed out all its fluid. Then I spent 3 weeks going through warranty crap to get new strut. I had them assembly them initially so i got had to pay for it to be taken apart and reassembled.. plus another alignment. But now that bs is over it feels amazing. I got to flex it out at offroad park this last weekend. I hope you get your sorted out soon!
