  • How 'bout another shop tour? This time Angelo and I go to Miltera for the day to see a couple beater machines, and we also got to see their new 30,000 sq. ft shop!! Basically we're thinking about getting a beater machine or two for cutting foam and plastic so we can free up some machine time for knives and, of course, pens. If the price is right, we'll see what happens. We'd also like to thank Miltera for letting us stop by for the day and poke around their shop, we're SO excited for you guys! We feel very lucky to be so close to so many manufacturing facilities.

    I always wondered why you sold your tormach, instead of using it to cut foam.

      Not enough RPM for sure...... I have a different vision anyway - don't get rid of something you are used to ... I have a haas now and I have a tormach , and I can say I will never sell the tormach.

    🤔 Drop ship them to the repair facility that gives you the best quote to fix them, while you lean out a better stream line for their usage, and make a spot to fit them. Lof a portion of the back shop? You have pretty high ceilings, it could work 😉

    Interesting older cnc mills...It's hard to pass up a 30,000rpm spindle and they would of cost a bit back in the day for that feature alone. Looks like you need a bigger shop, it's getting pretty tight in there with the new Tornos swiss lathe. I'm looking forward to your next video on your new Tornos Swiss lathe to see it in action.

    Maybe look into a CNC router of some kind for the foam and plastic and small aluminum stuff.

    If you have to store those two machines try to start them from time to time. I have made bad experiences with letting old machines sit around and heard a lot of people say the same. The IGBTs and Capacitors of the drives often get damaged when switched on after a long time. Or you might lose the data on the control, if you dont have a backup that can take some time to fix. Had these problems with both of my machines after 2 or 3 months of sitting around. (one with the same simodrive drives as the machines you want to buy)

    cool video looks like an exciting place you visited there.
    most likely looking at the hardware its heidenhein 530 controls, it can be 430 as well. It will tell you when you power up the machine
    Heidenhain hasn't really changed much the last 20-25 years, so it will look much like the things you saw at Kern, except for some machine specific functions.
    The spindle drive problem could be as simple as a parameter, most likely you can transfer the parameters from the machine with the working drive.
    The tool changer should be simple to fix, from the description it sounds like its the sensor for changer being under the spindle that's bad.
    It could also be the unclamp sensor in the spindle should be an easy fix eihter way.
    looking forward to seeing an update on a possible new shop and those 2 milling machines

    Heidenhain TNC 430 controller on those bad boys same as my DMG. Is it glass scaled? The controller is epic and so easy to use compared to fanuc. I have both fanuc and heidenhain. Good luck with it.

    this type of work is a dime a dozen in cambridge. you should switch gears and take a look at what some large machine shops do in Ontario.
    i work for one of the largest in Canada located between London and Hamilton and we do wayyy more interesting work than little turbines lol.

    Both an easy fix by the sounds of it. Even config you plc data encoder fault on x, might be just a poor connection. You just need a good service engineer. Shame your not in the UK or i could help. Thats if they are telling you the whole truth about them.

    I think used cnc machines can get a bad rap because usually by the time the person your buying it from usally there selling it because its clapped out or something completely wrong with it. But if you know whats wrong and all you need it to do is one thing why not. Its a shame to by a new cnc mill to cut foam and a cnc router might not hold the accuracy you need for the inlays. I mean a new haas tm1 is like 24k i think and that has it limitations.

    • @Juxtaposed1Nmotion
      @Juxtaposed1Nmotion 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      well ofc 24k is cheap for a CNC machine lol. 80k is entry level 200k for modern industrial with technology

    • @DRrandomman22
      @DRrandomman22 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Juxtaposed1Nmotion yea 24k is cheap but those mill are still a better value than the haas tm1 thats what i was getting at. Like the spindle rpm and it being a hsk spindle with a chilled spindle there a good machine but the haas has non of those options

    • @stephenpavlov8942

      It would probably cost a lot to have the spindle rebuilt. Also the torque has to be pretty low unless it has a gear drive spindle which makes it more complicated.
