In Japanese mythology foxes (kitsune) are able to shape shift and to appear human in order to deceive people. This song is about how women over the centuries have worn their make up and hidden their true feelings not to deceive, but in order to please and keep people happy, so even if they are crying inside they will put on a brave face and smile so as not to upset anybody else ... so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are all actresses and female foxes (megitsune). This is possibly the most 'Japanese' of the BABYMETAL songs starting with the traditional instruments and it even uses the melody from a very well known and very old Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms) for the heavy breakdown in the middle. The video was filmed at a shrine in a park in Tokyo used for traditional music festivals which is now a place of pilgrimage for all BABYMETAL fans who might visit the city. The part of the song where Su pulled the tanto (short blade) from her microphone she said "Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated". This is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. When it was decided BABYMETAL would be splitting from the Idol group a live backing band was introduced at first playing at a couple of festivals and in the encores in a few shows and from early in 2014 they became the full time support in all live shows and have been with them ever since. Every song is different - they play virtually every metal genre but will mix that in with not only pop but many other musical styles and genres. This was their second official video release, and their first as an Independent band (the first one Doki Doki Morning was when they were still a subunit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin). The two younger girls Moa and Yui (who are about two weeks apart in age) were 13 (just a couple weeks shy of Yui's 14th. and about a month shy of Moa's 14th) in this, and lead singer Su was 15, about six months before her 16th birthday. Yui and Moa just turned 21 in June and July, respectively (though Yui is no longer with BABYMETAL), and Su will turn 23 in December. Their newest album (featuring the songs Pa-Pa-Ya. Da-Da-Dance, Shanti Shanti Shanti, Distortion, Shine, Elevator Girl, and Starlight, all of which have official videos on TH-cam) features just Su and Moa. with a trio of alternating background dancers called the Avengers. So the girls have grown up into beautiful ladies now and their performance has matured, and yet very energetic as before ② Their activities are worldwide. Since June last year until March this year, they performed 20 times in USA, 19 times in EU/UK/Russia and 1 in Taiwan in addition to 15 in Japan (total : 49 their own concerts + 6 appearance in festivals). I could go on about Babymetal, huge fan of them. However there is something I have wanted to post on one of these videos for a while. I appreciate so much when I see black reactors doing Metal, Country or other types of music and appreciating it. While yes I have been aware for a long time that the black community can be very diverse in their music tastes as I grew up in areas that were either diverse or majority black and that was who I was friends with mostly. Having videos on TH-cam that garner many views, showing the appreciation of all forms of music spreads an understanding to those that may hold narrower views not because of overt racism, but simply not having been around people of color enough to learn these things. Welcome to the Foxhole! You've got quite the journey ahead if you stick with more Babymetal. This was their second official video release, and their first as an Independent band (the first one Doki Doki Morning was when they were still a subunit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin). The two younger girls Moa and Yui (who are about two weeks apart in age) were 13 (just a couple weeks shy of Yui's 14th. and about a month shy of Moa's 14th) in this, and lead singer Su was 15, about six months before her 16th birthday. Yui and Moa just turned 21 in June and July, respectively (though Yui is no longer with BABYMETAL), and Su will turn 23 in December. Their newest album (featuring the songs Pa-Pa-Ya. Da-Da-Dance, Shanti Shanti Shanti, Distortion, Shine, Elevator Girl, and Starlight, all of which have official videos on TH-cam) features just Su and Moa. with a trio of alternating background dancers called the Avengers. The newest album still explores a wide variety of metal subgenres, but also forays into a lot of world music influences, such as Indian/Bollywood, Celtic, Latin, EDM, Rap/Hip Hop. and Pop. They also incorporate English much more on the new album than on the previous two, though Japanese is still the most prominent.

So the girls have grown up into beautiful ladies now and their performance has matured, and yet very energetic as before ② Their activities are worldwide. Since June last year until March this year, they performed 20 times in USA, 19 times in EU/UK/Russia and 1 in Taiwan in addition to 15 in Japan (total : 49 their own concerts + 6 appearance in festivals). Many more were planned but cancelled due to the pandemic. Please continue to explore BABYMETAL.

Here's the deal with BABYMETAL: most people take upwards of 3 songs to become a fan for the rest of their life. You my friend, sound like you are already a fan! A lot of people have already given you the rundown of the group and some of their history. I'll keep it simple and point you to a funny little moment in the video. At the 4:27 mark one of the girls, Moa, comes at the camera and disappears fast. It's because she fell over. She was fine and laughed about it on a commentary track the did over the video a couple years later.

I could go on about Babymetal, huge fan of them. However there is something I have wanted to post on one of these videos for a while. I appreciate so much when I see black reactors doing Metal, Country or other types of music and appreciating it. While yes I have been aware for a long time that the black community can be very diverse in their music tastes as I grew up in areas that were either diverse or majority black and that was who I was friends with mostly. Having videos on TH-cam that garner many views, showing the appreciation of all forms of music spreads an understanding to those that may hold narrower views not because of overt racism, but simply not having been around people of color enough to learn these things. I feel that maybe something as simple as showing that you, and other black reactors can enjoy and appreciate these types of music can also make people second guess what other stereotypes they may hold.

Sakura Gakuin has announced to end all activities next year as the group enters its 10th anniversary.
The final 2020 Nendo which includes 8 members - Shiratori Sana, Nonaka Kokona, Tanaka Miku, Yagi Miki, Sato Neo, Todaka Miko, Nozaki Yume, and Kimura Sakia shall continue from September 1st 2020 to August 31st 2021.
This is Sakura Gakuin's 10th and final year as the remaining members continue to value the traditions and bonds built along with the 28 graduates.
