Saw Boney play this set last night in Atlanta. Pieces of a Dream was the opening act. Unexpectedly, Pieces Of A Dream WAY outplayed Boney-due solely to his sound mixer-made it more a hard rock show. I've seen the amazing Boney other times and he was great. But last night, folks were leaving. Pieces of a Dream was amazing!!! (Reminded me of when I saw Anita Baker open for Luther Vandross. I went solely to see Luther. So many amazing nuances in both Anita and Luther's work. She kicked his butt for the same reason:((( I'll still grab tickets to Boney's next show in ATL. I hope he'll have a new crew.
The solo by Big Mike Hart is the high-light...real azz music with heart....the rest is ok...but as a long time jazz lover, the whole "Smooth Jazz" is trash...basically watered down jazz... that's just my opinion. Crucify me if you want!
Coltrane, Parker play great Jazz music. "Smooth Jazz" is more melodic. I like both types. If "Smooth Jazz" is not to your taste, just don't listen to it.
