Hey friends, next week we'll have more information about Secret Base as well as a trailer for our new series which will launch on the same day. Until then, hope you have a good Collapse (viewing)
To be fair he was still a really good fighter after that injury it was the Brunson fight where he looked washed up. The bisping fight was the last time we saw a good Anderson Silva not prime or anything but still quite dangerous IMO
Not sure how this is a collapse. Just cuz he kept fighting doesn't take away from his accomplishments. Unless your an MMA Casual who think GSP is GOAT and could beat Anderson lul
Terrance Hall back then definitely. It’s definitely getting harder though. I know a lot guys tend to cycle on and off. With the new random testing pools months out before fight even starts. No more claiming testosterone replacement therapy or tainted supplement that shits not flying anymore these days.
Maybe I'm too sentimental when I evaluate these things, but Silva's fall from grace cemented his greatness for me. Once his mobility and athleticism started to go and he started to lose fights, he would still show his once-in-a-generation mastery of spacing and timing once or twice a fight. Even as late as the Israel Adesanaya fight, he's still catching guys right on the button with his counter right hook that comes around the side of a too-aggressive combination to stand them straight up and remind them he's still the spider. Seeing all his athletic prowess stripped away, I can see exactly how amazing his timing and spacing always was. Seeing an old man land some of the shots he's landed confirmed for me he really was always special, as opposed to merely gifted. I still remember exactly where I was and how I felt when Weidman dropped him the first time. What a devastating moment, a god died in front of all of us.
He should have developed a more boxing heavy style as he aged. A boxing heavy style would have been better after the leg snap his athleticism was never the same after

theres context to it, very similiar to most recently with a lot of people hyping up woodleys 95% takedown defense rate or whatever it was. he didn't go up against a lot of fighters with a strong takedown. once he eventually would have to fight someone like usman, we saw what happened. silva didnt go up against a lot of top tier wrestlers/grapplers in general. hendo was never a strong takedown threat, in fact hendo has the reputation of being rather easy to takedown himself despite his wrestling credentials. sonnen was the strongest offensive wrestler he fought up to weidman, but silva was injured in the first sonnen fight, so i give him a pass as to why he gave up the takedowns so easily. in the travis lutter fight, lutter actually passed silva's guard and had him full mounted. lutter is a BJJ specialist to be fair, but its another example of silva having shown weaknesses with his grappling.

Anderson Silva was one fun guy to bet against, with all due respect. Week after week I was like "this guy for *SURE* can beat Silva!" And so many times came out disappointed😂😂
Lots of money was made when Chris Weidman pulled off the upset though, and the belief that he could accomplish it among fans was not proven to be mistaken.
@@loiveir "showboating" please whenever it doesn't work out for him he deserves it, whenever it does he doesn't deserve it. He was just that good period, and he beat people that were regarded as the best and were used to bullying opponents but couldn't do it to him. He held his title for six years, showboating is just a word used by haters in the octogon👑
D'Artagnan Reigns it’s not “hating” on someone when you call what they do “showboating”. That’s literally the term used for it. When a football player is about to score a touchdown, and they high step towards the end zone, that’s called “showboating” no matter who does it
One of greatest fighters of all time. And All he had to do was place those gloves on the octagon and drive off in that Bentley. As a fan it hurts to see a living legend getting slaughtered today.😔
Artemis Walsh I watched that before getting into MMA, now I haven’t missed a card, even a fight night in nearly a year (missed Edgar-Munhoz while on a camping trip but nothing I could do about that)
Dana didn't do anything tbh, If UFC released him, he would have signed elsewhere. The UFC released him now and he's never stated he was retiring, just beating around the bush and avoiding the question.
He wasn’t held at gun point to sign a new contract. From a business perspective, Anderson leaving also takes money with him, so obviously he would try to keep him in the ufc. And guess who chose to ink that contract? Anderson Silva
When Anderson Silva came to the UFC and laid waste to the opposition, I didn't jump on the bandwagon, I went to the front and pushed everyone else aside. Even his boring fights I defended and when Weidman KTFO, Weidman became my #1 nemesis. So it's a shame that his legacy is now in question. He's still one of my favorite fighters but I say it with quiet tones instead of the cult like fever I once did.
Gabus Gaben imagine a basketball page thinking a legend losing twice then a couple of close decisions against future champions is considered bad, a bit off in my view.
@@samevans1672 For me, it's more of when a fighter fights for too long and they are still active (Similar to how many were looking at Roy Jones Jr) I really hope these two fights he has left are his last and he hangs them up. Then I will push back to the front, telling people he's the GOAT ^_^
One thing that could have been mentioned is the context behind Anderson Silva's loss to Israel Adesanya. While he ultimately lost the fight it was a 'passing of the torch moment' and he DID impress many people by being competitive with who turned out to be the next champion. Many pundits felt that that was as perfect a time to retire as Silva was ever going to get at that stage in his career but he chose not to. Not only did he lose his next fight to Jared Cannonier but it was via another devastating leg injury in front of his home crowd, adding to the tragedy of his career trajectory.
Absolutely heartbreaking given how Weidman's career was on the downslope, he'll never be the same after that. I can't help but get over how bizarrely ironic it was, of all the people to suffer a broken leg on a checked kick it was Chris Weidman and it was to the guy (Uriah Hall) who was considered by fans back in the day to the next Anderson Silva.
He’s still the greatest of all time without a single doubt - he smashed the middleweight and lhw to a new degree...his stand up is still the best we’ve ever seen
Watching Weidman vs. Silva II was absolutely shocking in a grotesque and heartbreaking way. Silva was at the top for so long and I knew in that moment that it was all over. I've never gone back to watch the video and never will. I appreciate you all not showing it.
Silva redeemed himself with his entrance into boxing at his age. His win over a former champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was stuff that legends are made of. Without a doubt Silva is one of greatest combat sports fighters in history. MMA-wise, nobody took MMA by storm and dominated the way Silva did in his prime. Literally putting opposing fighters into the matrix with his movement, speed, fight IQ and ridiculous repertoire of talents.
Yea and how many wins does he have in a row defending his title. Not as much as Anderson. How many of those defence in were knock outs? Not as much as Anderson. What weight class was heavier? Not GSPs. Done
@@elsol1176 GSP has 8 title defenses and after his loss to Matt Serra was on a 11 title fight win streak and retired as MIDDLEWEIGHT champion Anderson having more finishes might have something to do with him being on steroids and liking to strike more compared to GSP ands Silva could have fought at welterweight he always debated it but never did
Anderson Silva is one of the greatest strikers to ever live. Period. Steroids and controversy towards the end of his career aside, the man carved out a legacy and will be remembered as long as mma is around. Kids will study this man if theyre true students of the game, 100 years from now.
His confidence was insane. His fight IQ was in insane. He was so fast. I don't get how the spider tarnished his legacy he's the greatest of his time. The first one to do it
The greatest of all time gets thrown around too much, Anderson is without a doubt the greatest middleweight at this moment and during his peak was the greatest fighter in mma. Izzy is looking very promising but let's come back here in a few years and see has he reached the same heights.
I vividly remember Silva breaking his leg while watching it on TV with some buddies and i literally jumped out of my seat yelling as his leg gumby'd around Weidmans knee, no one else I was watching with had seen what happened till the replay showed it and safe to say their reactions were almost identical when they finally saw what happened. Such a nasty injury and I'll never understand why he continued fighting after that.
I remember seeing it live, I never ever want to see it again. Thank you for not showing the break. One of the hardest injuries to watch, legs just shouldn't bend like that.
*Can we get some love in the comments, for how much effort, they put into creating and narrating, these videos. Love you're content. Love you're channel* #Adesanya
Doesn't apply to Silva. He didn't go UFC heel after the leg break. He got tempted into staying way longer than he should have, and just didn't know when to quit. IMO he should have taken the car from Dana and said "so long, and thanks for the Bentley" when he had the chance.
Many fighters just don't know when to quit. It's all they know, and getting away from the limelight and glory is hard to step away from. Fighters continue after knee injuries, repeated knockouts, rapid decline, eye damage, etc. Fighting is not a sport where most people know when to quit.
Think you should have specified that Bisping was retreating from Silva because his mouth guard had been knocked out and he didn't want to lose his teeth. Silva decided this was an opportunity to knee him in the face. I enjoyed the video but you could have covered the dirty tactics Silva employed in the ring.
This feels really similar to Muhammad Ali's boxing career after the Spinks rematch. Sort of a weird thing about wanting to let go, but others having a lot of interest in you staying and... Also sadly not completly being able to let go of the spotlight... Tough
@@SPACEDOUT19 No you can't, your history is your legacy. You can be at the top of the game, but when you fall down and continue to compete despite this your career downslope becomes part of your history and in turn, legacy. Today, you can't tell the story of Anderson Silva without mentioning his downfall. Whether you like it or not, Anderson Silva tarnished and tainted his legacy by continuing to compete and lose fights well past his prime and test positive for steroids not once, but twice. You reap what you sow, and that's why MMA fighters need to know when to call it quits. What GSP and Khabib did should be something every fighter strives for, not simply regard it as a nice choice.
That leg injury was NASTY ! but hats off to him fighting TOP contenders after the injury Diaz , Bisping , Cormier... they aint no walk in the park type of guys !
This is like making a collapse on Michael Jordan while he was on fhe Wizards and saying that missing the playoffs as a 39 year old tarnished his legacy.
Michael Jordan was never caught using PEDs. Michael Schumacher also returned to Formula 1 in 2010-2012 after retirement and despite never being a championship contender again, no one says that his time at Mercedes tarnished his reputation. Going back to the sport as a geriatric shell of yourself is one thing, using PEDs is another.
Except Jordan didn’t caught for juicing while being a pillar of the sport. Gambling, perhaps, but it’s not what you know, but what you can prove it court.

GinkgoPete lmao if you think losing by decision while going out on his shield somehow tarnished his career, if anything his fights gainer Bisping, Adesanya and Cormier showed the next generation coming through and all went on to be champions, hardly hard to watch.
I was just thinking about this recently - how if he would have retired when he originally wanted to, before the first Weidman fight, then he'd pretty much have to be right alongside Jones and GSP for the GOAT title
joe posteraro I can’t argue there. I absolutely can’t stand the guy. He’s not on my personal GOAT list due to the cheating. As of now, I have GSP holding that title and it’s hard to say who is second. But I wanted to mention Jones because I understand the average person still sees him as the GOAT. I’d love nothing more than for Khabib (or anyone else) to hold that title someday in the eyes of the general consensus
Jay Tiemann He did, and that’s why we don’t acknowledge his Wizards tenure. But Jordan was complete garbage anyways, he needed Pippen to finally step up so he could win

silva didnt go up against a lot of top tier wrestlers/grapplers in general. hendo was never a strong takedown threat, in fact hendo has the reputation of being rather easy to takedown himself despite his wrestling credentials. sonnen was the strongest offensive wrestler he fought up to weidman, but silva was injured in the first sonnen fight, so i give him a pass as to why he gave up the takedowns so easily.
in the travis lutter fight, lutter actually passed silva's guard and had him full mounted. lutter is a BJJ specialist to be fair, but its another example of silva having shown weaknesses with his grappling.

@@obadguy2468 Anderson would have done better had he signed elsewhere anyway. Less competition means easier fights for him.

“You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
Doesn't apply to Silva. He didn't go UFC heel after the leg break. He got tempted into staying way longer than he should have, and just didn't know when to quit. IMO he should have taken the car from Dana and said "so long, and thanks for the Bentley" when he had the chance.
How do you interpret a broken leg as a "sign to continue fighting" tho?
Many fighters just don't know when to quit. It's all they know, and getting away from the limelight and glory is hard to step away from. Fighters continue after knee injuries, repeated knockouts, rapid decline, eye damage, etc.
Fighting is not a sport where most people know when to quit.
