I love that we had a whole overhaul of magic damage distribution across gear with the stated intent of opening up future reward space, said overhaul did not address the primary limiter of magic reward space, and then the very next magic reward proposed is very clearly and obviously held back by said limiter of reward space in the exact way the entire playerbase said it would be before, during, and after project rebalance
The ancient staff and other Zaros items give negative prayer because Zaros is a dead god. He was killed. Why does it give negative prayer and just no prayer at all? Because Zaros was directly born from an Elder God, one of the 7 Elder Gods that forged the universe itself, her name was Mah. The death of such a powerful and important Neo Elder God left a wound within reality itself.
Tumeken's shadow: the magic damage increase from this is capped at 100% Magic Strength. BIS right now is 72%. The shadow can be maxed out at a lower % to prevent future power creep. Probs the easiest fix.
Magic dmg strength should just be additive. Each piece can give you at least a max hit this way, making upgrades useful. Then shadow makes you gain tons by way of having the ONLY multiplier as it should.
Surely others getting the cape and selling it to you in the GE is a better route over someone recovering your account and doing it for you with the risk of account and item loss?!

They COULD just program the new cape in a way that if yhu were using it alongside the shadow it gets 1/3 bonus and if using alongside shadow in toa it gets 1/4 bonus. It’s actually a really simple thing to program in.

Revert the % damage changes, Remove the multiplier on the shadow and provide it a passive to increase max hit by x amount ( a flat number) this could change it to where the shadow remains the same as it is in game, and adding new % magic items won't break the shadow, it will just be a more powerful autocast staff.

The problem is that because it's so strong it cannibalizes the entire skill/combat style. Nobody is asking for it to not be BIS, they want actual new mage gear rewards to not be complete shit without one of the rarest items in the game.

I’ve had guys logout mid fight in BH in the past week. It’s Odd and I brought it up to my cc and nobody else experienced it. This makes me happy to see it’s not just me. I was mid fight and the guy just disappeared.
Cant they just put a Mage Bonus or Damage cap on the shadow? Exactly like the Ibans Blast. If you already have the maximum mage bonus/damage, you can utilse the other slots for say, more tanky items or just tribrid setups.
My biggest issue with the cape is that everyone AND I MEAN EVERYONE has said that it's tradeable, when its the upgrade material that is tradeable, meaning you need to have the god capes anyway. From the blog post: "While the Demonic Mark will be tradeable, the Eldritch Veil will be untradeable. This means that if you’ve done your time in the Mage Arena you’ll be able to buy your way to the upgrade." I get that the end result is the same, people are gonna be able to buy it but this will not stop cape sellers at all
Why not just cap the shadows damage at current (only further upgradeable by flat stat bonus such as salts, imbued heart etc) that way any future magic upgrades can be impactful for other mage weapons/new mage weapons

Most people forget that the shadow has a cap and is intended to do X amount of damage. The problem is just a lack of better mage gear. I shouldn’t need a billion gold in gear to max out shadows potential, and other items should compete more with the shadow. Just give every mage item 5% or so magic damage. Shadow will reach its cap quicker, you won’t need a 9 way switch everywhere to hit cap, and put a cap on shadow inside of ToA.
Make the cape give another 2% if you wear something in the shield slot. Shadow gets the extra 1% multiplied to 3%, and other staves/weapons get a flat extra 3%, problem solved for this specific issue. Or, just like Quiver gives bonus only to weapons that shoot ammo in the ammo slot and does not work on blowpipe, make it so you can charge the cape with some cheap “charges” and they add another 1-2% to magic damage but do not work on shadow. Maybe charge the cape instead of the staff and take charges from there, but can’t charge soul runes.

i always thought that the gods, especially saradomin, tried to cover up zaros's existence in the history of the world, so when an individual brandished a staff of his symbol they were angered by said individual and would grant them less effective prayers (showing in game by their prayers draining faster with the -1)
I mean shadow is end game, not everyone has it. I don't think it getting a bit better hurts anything in the long run unless we just kind of cap the bonuses when shadow is equiped?

If they don't want to do a major rework to how the magic damage/the shadow works, I think they should put a soft cap on shadow kind of like how souls games cap how effective your skills effects your damage. After a soft cap each percent of extra magic damage is only increased 2x or maybe not even multiplied when hitting what they deem the acceptable maximum boost the shadow should receive, allowing more room for growth without totally knecaping the shadow or having to change it from the ground up.
Hear me out.. Mage arena 3. A wave based challenge like original fight caves in difficulty, but you're in the wildy and people can attack you. You can start it anywhere you want in the wildy (so it's not a camped location) , it lasts like 15-20 waves so it's not too long.
some osrs players complain about power creep but shadow is power creep kinda but shadow users dont moan about it, though cape as it stands only boost shadow staff but not other magic weapons much which makes useless unless you got shadow.

simple fix for the shadow: reduce 3x bonus to 2x, and increase its base damage percent and accuracy to the level its at now with 3x. ez
