Wow, I'm so proud of you! 😇🥲🙏 I can't even imagine what an ordeal that was. Your herd is lucky to have such a compassionate caretaker. Prayers for Daisy and you.
I commend you for having such a good outlook through this whole situation. You sound young and that is not often something that comes at a young age. 💙 I just wanted to add a couple of tips if that's ok? I had a kid coming the same way as yours this spring and it was probably the most terrifying and emotional birth I have had with my goats so far. My saving grace was determining early on that the head was back (if that nose is not right there when the legs/knees pop out, go looking for it) and finding twine and using it to loop behind her head to keep it straight and guide it out (it kept wanting to flop back). So my advice is for everyone to have a kid puller and/or twine handy just in case. Towards the end I thought for sure this kid had passed as movement had significantly decreased. P.S. that kid's name is Mira 😉 As far as her swollen vulva goes I highly recommend spraying with dermoplast. I hope your Daisy girl pulls through! 💙 🙏 Keep up the good work and keep that positive outlook! Learning the hard way is still learning, as much as it may suck (we've all been there!).
I’ve had to do the same thing. The minute the neck was cut everything cam sliding out. I would use preparation h for mom. I was scared mine had a broke pelvis from all the pulling. She walked a bit funny for a few days but made a full recovery. This was way before I had any experience with births. Prayers for your girl. Make sure to give pain meds. Meloxicam is a very good one and won’t hurt her rumen like banimine.
She needs antibiotics badly! Please give her some kind of antibiotic you can get at the feed store. La200, penicillin wtv you can get! Also give her vitamin b injections you can also get this at the feed store! It’s been over 4 days so I don’t know if she’s even alive but for future reference in a situation like this it’s extremely dangerous to not administer antibiotics and pain reliever
That poor mom!! 😢😢 that looks so painful! My last birth, my baby got stuck in the opening like that, all natural/unmedicated, so I know the pain and terror.. But after you drew the baby's position, I was shocked! Not much could be as painful and traumatizing as that. 😢 Thank God the baby was already gone before you had to do that. Side note, how can you know for sure it was dead?
Thank you for your kind words. To answer your question, living goat babies will move and wiggle. When the hoofs were first coming out, they were moving a bit, but after a while everything stilled and we knew the kid had passes
