Randy, farm pond fishing is about all I have in western Indiana farm country, but I took your advice and caught a 4# and 5# on one trip, and my last time out before this cold front hit I caught two 5# bigmouths on successive casts on a small white willowleaf spinnerbait! Thanks for the tip!
This phenomenon was very pronounced in Michigan last year... Best shallow bite I had found in years... Hoping to repeat my results this year. Small spinnerbaits and 3" Spark Shad on Okashira Screwheads were on fire!
Just curious where you fish in MI? I caught my PB in MI about 10 years ago on a small lake just south of Mackinaw. I live in VA so you'd think my PB would be here.
@@scottankers6690 I live near Lake St. Clair, and my family has property on a small lake near Traverse City. Those two lakes account for over 90% of my fishing.
I have found down here in southern SC the shallow bite is good all year. I think the bass come shallow once the sun comes up to warm up. Obviously it doesn't get nearly as cold down here than up north. But hot & cold is relative. It's still cold for the area. I saw fish supper shallow all winter last year
Went fishing for an hour after work today and had two 3+ lber on a shad style crank. Crazy for the highly pressured bank fishing spots on lake of the Ozarks. They were both shallow. That might not sound like much but I’ve only ever caught one 3+ there in 3 years
Up here in the north east, a lot of bass will stay shallow even when the water temperature are in the mid to low 40s. I've caught them in snow storms, caught them in open water on ponds where it's partially frozen, and on bitter cold days. A lot of people are surprised, but fish still gotta eat!
I watched and it was money....I don't watch anyone else as I get as I get more TPM (Tips Per Minute) enjoy them and I realize I know about 33% of what you do so I'll keep watching ..
this can be true unless you have been in drought like here in Louisiana. we fished two lakes yesterday both more than 3 feet low and the bass just were not shallow at all. out in 8-12 all day
I think it's a sign to the bass, winter is officially on the way...start the feeding frenzy, with a diet of bluegills/crawfish after eating mostly shad during the fall...Crawfish/bluegill, maybe even small crappie provide a needed source of protein for winter seasons & typically are shallower this time of year for a few weeks...just a theory of mine, the extra needed protein & fat shad won't provide...who knows, but i stick with it 😂
Luckily here in Florida we rarely ever get any actual ‘freezes’ and if we do you can simply stay home as Florida strain Bass hate cold and simply get lock jaw ….🎣👽
It makes me wonder if they could have anything to do with oxygen levels? Also taking seasonal turnover into consideration. Seems sure like a good place to be if you’re a fish. 3:22
It is better to do a root that loses a tooth. Why do I think fish go shallow on first freeze. The fish think it's a short-term deal . The earth or bottom of the lake or river holds heat, and bait has moved shallow to eat what has come up with the turnover of the lake. Also, bass needs or like something to corner bait. They do this in ponds, too. Got put on the feed bag for the winter. A fat bass has more mass to get cold than a small fry. Freeze its core. Like a large pan of water takes longer to freeze than cup of water

Good stuff. We had a serious front come through yesterday here in VA. Not quite freezing but temps are 15 degrees lower than yesterday.

Thanks for the lesson, tatally opposite of what i had thought
Great timing, our first freeze tonight and I’m going fishing tomorrow. Thank you!
I think thT that cool surface water makes the small bait fish some what lethargic and bass come in from deeper wate to gobble up easier food.
Good luck on the root canal... Thanks for the fall freeze tips
Thanks 👍😊
Hope you’re feeling ok Randy. No fun! Fishing a tourney Saturday on Beaver. Hoping they are shallow!
Have fun with that root canal lol,

What baits did you use?
@@scratchymcballs6744 usually jerk baits. But they'll take some plastics as well.

Freezing air temp in the morning and I'm throwing big glides and a small topwater.🤞🏻
just had our first freeze last night!!!! sucks!!!
Hey Randy. Is the moving shallow after the first freeze in any way related to the fall reproduction of crawfish?
Good one
I think it stuns the bait fish and the bass go on frenzy
guys n gals! my wige fishes too. hope you’re root removal goes smooth

Here they stay shallow , we don’t have the deep water like in reservoirs
Why are you wearing a beef jerky hat bro? Also, when is it too late for topwater? I’ve been told in WI it’s when the spook hits the ice… lol

I do believe in it actually

Are you going to have your jigs at TWH?
No
I’ve caught over 200 bass in the last six months on them hope they will still be available for purchase. Thanks for a great product
Do you ever show videos of you fishing
I film everything with my cell phone so it’s sort of hard to fill my cell fishing with the cell phone
How do you dress to stay warm in the winter when fishing?
I'm thinking he puts on winter clothes.
