    There are so many people who comment about enjoying listening to Oddys soothing voice and I will add another one of my own. I have little patience for some of my favorite channels long episodes especially. Some times even the shorter ones. I've found that speeding them up helps me deal with it better. Oddy is the only one I never have and never would consider speeding up. I too enjoy listening to this lovely man. Thank you Oddy for giving us such rich content from long ago. 💙

      Yes I’m the same with his voice! I had a massive hemorrhagic (bleeding) stroke Sept 2020 right after my 42nd birthday and ended up having to have brain surgery and now I’m disabled with my left arm and hand paralyzed but I’m blessed to be able to walk with a cane but I find myself stressing over something and I go to him to listen to his voice even if I’ve already watched it/ listened to it before bc he’s just that good!! I have been waiting for this one. Brilliant story and as an artist, illustrator, and sculptor myself as well as photographer and designer it is a struggle to make ends meet sometimes but life is a one of interest and beauty in creating individual pieces of work based on inspirations and wonders life can be. He was a great artist and one I will recommend a good read into his works and life.

    Out of everywhere I’ve been, I love Paris the most. I can totally see how an artist would have a love affair with the place.
    It seems to embrace and cherish the tortured soul, draw the beauty from experienced pain, so to speak.
    The art in this vid is amazing.
    Oddy, I really love your choice in music…especially the piano pieces… I have no idea if this would be interesting at all, but would you be willing to make a vid about Rachmaninoff? I’ve always thought he must have been interesting because of his music. I think he had massive hands as well lol…

      I thought i had seen this b4! Yes, thanks to Oddie for all these great stories.
      As a person with no discernible talent for drawing, and perhaps BECAUSE of that, i find no appeal for Modigliani's art. It reminds me of my own silly attempts at portraiture. Flat and without dimension. Especially his later works. It is almost mocking.
      Perhaps some day i will develope an appreciation. I will keep my mind open. But as of the second viewing, i still see it as the indulgence of the mother of a sick child.
      No disrespect to you, Oddie. I have always loved your stories and eagerly await the next.

    So lovely to see another Obsolete Oddie video! Beautifully done, as always. The stories of greedy & unscrupulous dealers is something I've experienced, and it can be so soul-destroying. A painter pours his heart & soul into his work, and the lack of appreciation of that sacrifice in favour of haggling for profit is wearing. Another point I'm glad that you make is M's affair with poet Anna Ahkmatova. Two impassioned tragic artists of unique talent, it was destined that they found each other in the brief time AA lived in Paris.

      jeannes visions were underestimated, she drafted studies, which i like very much, cos there is a light in the eyes she drafted, opposite of modigliani, who s mark was painting without gravity. the sacrifice she made, dying in the name of love is regrettable, also understandable, she couldnt bare the unbearable lightness of being, after she dived too deep into that passionate love.

      Pastis is an aniseed flavoured liqueur very popular in France. I used to drink it and smoke Gauloises but I was a wannabe existentialist at the time, which was a bit odd for a Scottish lassie 😉

    Oddie, such a sad story brilliantly recounted. It has always seemed to me that so many of the great talents burn brightly…and all too quickly. I liked his work from my own days in art school, among other greats who were exploring the edges of style. His work was always a little mysterious and solitary to my eye. I think the exploration of altered states had a profound effect on the art that came out of this period. I believe they enjoyed their wild lifestyles as Bohemians, and would have changed little given the chance. Thank you for this gem dear friend, and be well and happy.🖤🇨🇦

      @ObsoleteOddity  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s so kind of you Tamarra, so glad you enjoyed it my friend. 😊🙏
      I think you are right about the exploration of altered states - Modigliani smoked copious amounts of hashish and used cocaine - so he definitely would’ve had access to the astral/dream states.
      And yes normal civilian life was never for souls like Modigliani.
      I do believe I am more enamoured by Rosali, she was a Saint - what a wonderful soul she was.
      Hope you’re having a wonderful start to the week, please send our blessings and regards to Richard and stay safe my friend.

    • @tamarrajames3590
      @tamarrajames3590 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ObsoleteOddity I agree, Rosali deserves her own story, as I’m sure there are rich veins to mine in her relationships to so many of the great rebellious artists of the time. One might even say that without her, many masterpieces might never have been created. Artists always need the Rosalia’s of their time. I’m just sorry she wasn’t able to reap the rewards of the gifts she received in gratitude.
      We are doing well, every day is a little better, so keeping on the positive side. Please send our love to Odette, as always, you are often in our thoughts.🖤🇨🇦

    • @ObsoleteOddity
      @ObsoleteOddity  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely, I do wish somebody had recorded Rosalie’s life in more detail - but I’m grateful for the information and images that I found online - again that time machine would come in very handy to go back and have a plate of Rosalie’s spaghetti Bolognese…and maybe buy some art from the struggling artists!
      I’m sure karma has rewarded Rosalie for her kind heart.
      Happy to hear that every day is getting a little better! We just returned from France a few days back, had a lovely but hot sojourn. ☀️

    I found this by accident amongst all the junk and gossipy articles. It is brilliant, a real, in depth and so very sympathetic broadcast. I a sure I am not the only artist in the world who hates the parasites and scabs on the true fine art world. The dark world of authentication (see the Fake or Fortune series) leaves one horrified at the outright stupidity and corrupton that is so evident. Fortunately it is the Internet which is breaking through the monopoly and now every artist, good, bad or indifferent, who can have their own online gallery complete with apps that show what the paintings look like in the buyers own environment. This series is splendid and O O's own comments about his struggles with French (don't we all?!) are endearing. Wonderful stuff, Dear O O , I can't wait to see other episodes!
