Very happy for you. Brings back memories of Henri Toivenen winning the Lombard RAC Rally in one of these when I was in the 6th form at school (1980?). I thought they were cool then and still do. Must now be very few left In existence. I wish you a lot of fun with the car.
I had one of these in the late 1980's - a MkII in Blue with Skip Brown modfications - around 215 bhp; negative camber front cross-member, quick rack, uprated brakes. At a test day on track it was faster than quite a few supercars - I held off a Testarossa for 6 laps of Castle Combe, which attracted some comments from spectators; but it wasn't lightened the way yours is and so in a Lotus race, the modified Elans and 7's were faster. On a rough main road, the biggest problem was keeping it in a straight line - Sierras used to overtake me all the time above 80 mph! Steering was heavy, as you've noticed. Around London it was a great way to make work for the chiropractor... I never used to use the choke - a couple of pumps of the accelerator to prime the carbs, then hold the pedal down and turn the key. It would start first time. If it didn't. though you had to call the AA - the battery couldn't cope with more than 2-3 starts, due to the high compression. Great fun, though...
My first ever car was a Talbot Sunbeam 1.3LS, which I loved! I always aspired to owning the Lotus version but never did. The one you have bought, is well sorted and one of the best I have ever seen, enjoy it! I look forward to seeing it in future videos.

I do like both these guys for different reasons but it's interesting to see how excited Jason was waiting for this car to be delivered .... it was an incredible reward for him and most of us would believe it was a pretty modest car but you could see his joy....when Damon picks up his super cars it's not the same level of joy...i'm not criticising...just an observation....money does make a difference....when we are without it we strive...when we have it we expect...great video....
I think you're right, Michael. I think I lack the excitement gene. :) Also, remember that when you're also responsible for the planning, filming and editing of the car collection episode, you are usually pretty stressed about getting all the right shots on the day as well as doing the paperwork/finances etc. So often, that can blunt the raw excitement that you see on camera.

I would personally love to have a technical talk video about the car. Going over the engine, suspension and etc. to show whats been modified and what is left stock. Also just to see how it compares to my own Sunbeam Lotus :)
Stunning car. Beyond cool. People don't know about the Sunbeam Lotus but it was so far ahead of the game in 1980 I think people struggled to get their head around it. Bonafide WRC Champion with 150bhp through the rear wheels when the Golf GTi had just over 100bhp! It took another decade before anyone could get close. How much does that one have?
