That is my favorite Zero! I love that color, too. I agree the price and the range-anxiety are the downsides. I have the S model and found it to be a great first motorcycle. And true about the lack of moving parts being a plus. I’ve dropped this bike many times as a beginner and it has only suffered cosmetic damage. It hasn’t affected the performance of the bike. Love the video!
One day tents will have highly flexible solar panels on them and when you travel through any outback, you just set up your tent for a da or two to charge the bike for the next leg of the trip! 🤗 One day, petrol engines were stinking noisy novelties no one saw any future in. What, buying fuel when all the working horses needed to work was growing in your back yard? 🤯🤪 We'll come to appreciate the battery drives. It's a question of getting used to.☺
I completely agree with this statement! And I as well don’t understand the argument „BUT IT IS NOT SUSTAINABLE“. Of course a technology that is only about to be developed is not completely there yet - but in my opinion there are not so many other options than hoping that new technologies might help us to stop all the pollution that former technologies brought us. Because I think it is too late to go back to the horses that you were talking about meanwhile. 😅
Nice review, and you came to the same conclusion that I did: awesome for around town or for a commuter that goes to work the same distance every day (assuming its withing the bike's range) but definitely not for traveling... yet. It is ironic the the "Black Forest" model was not available in Germany :-). I'm sure you have heard of the TV miniseries "Long way up" and regardless of what you think of it, it does give you some insight as to what traveling on an e-bike would be like - even when you have a crew in a van following you. One thing that's always overlooked when talking about EVs: electricity is NOT free! We are used to thinking about the energy for a vehicle in terms of liters of gas (petrol) and liters per 100km and dismiss enrgy costs for an EV. It takes a bit of digging to find out the energy costs. That Zero bike battery holds about 12 kWh of electricity, roughly $4 at Germany's rates. Cheaper than petrol for 100km, but eventually all the taxes on petrol that are used for road maintenance and support for public transportation will be eventually levied on electricity for vehicles and then it won't be much cheaper than petrol. True that traveling with an e-bike would afford you numerous great opportunities for meeting locals to get a charge, but I would definitely be mindful of what that power costs and pay for it. There are places where that charge is the equivalent of a day's wages.
Hi Lea, thanks for a really good review. I think you were very balanced in your summary and like you I think electric is moving in the right direction....but not quite there yet in terms of price and range. I loved your "gliding comparison"😂. I am packing for trip to Normandy next Thursday evening so your live chat will be ideal company to get me in the travelling mood. Ride safe 👍🇬🇧
You look really good in your bike outfit , wish i could meet you on the road, even on an ebike. Nice solid review, no surprises about the pro’s and con’s. I am sure its really nice to drive , just like many ecars , only thing missing is milage.
Thank you for the great report and the interesting insights. Much better than other tests of electric motorcycles. And that only after 3 days of testing. Respect.
This would be nice to have in your garage as a local commuter. Then the biggest challenge you would have Lea is finding a nail polish to match the tank. On the whole, I like the bike👍💅
Hi Lea, I'm so Happy you are reporting about a ride with an electric motorcycle. Hopefully this will destroy several aversions some men are spreading around. You made the experience how fabulous riding without noise can be. You will be more focused on road, traffic and environment. And yes, currently with that limited range, you always schould drive with support by an App. This will help you top calculate your trip and find the next charging station. Meanwhile we have more charging stations than fuel stations in Germany.
Yes I don’t think you would have any problems riding through Europe finding charging stations! Especially when you can plug in the bike everywhere! I am very curious what the future brings, I am sure this was not the last trip on an e-bike I ever did!
Thanks Lea, for a great review. Very informative. I am guessing the way you explained the deceleration, when you release the accelerator that it is recharging the battery at that point? Also not sure free charging is correct. Whoever is allowing you use their power is the one paying for the electricity. So it's like they're lending you power as a favour and they are paying for it. I think free power from the Govt is just to draw people in and at some point users will start paying. We have electric power outlets here in Canada and they require a credit card to fill up. Of course the charges are a lot lower than paying for petrol. I guess the other difference in riding electric would be lack of feed back from the machine as in vibration and sound making it more of a visual experience in terms of how fast or slow you are going, if that make sense. But yes cost and range need to head in opposite directions for sure. It was really nice you did this review. Cheers and looking forward to your chat and the next adventure. So was that the end of the backyard Welt trip? 😎
Ah now I understand! But to be honest I have no answer to that - I guess I never let go of the acceleration long enough to see if that is true 😂. Yes, you are right, but I didn’t mean free for everyone, I meant free for me in that case - if I would have been doing a trip on this bike in other countries than my home country and not plugged in the bike in all the private places of people that I in the end portrayed, wrote about and in that way gave something back to them and their business, I as well would have offered to pay for the electricity in the private places - because I in general just don’t like to take everything for free and granted when travling and like to give back for the things and resources I use when being on the road. So yes, you are of course right, someone always pays for the electricity. That makes complete sense with the visual experience - I think you even see that in the video where I accelerate. You don’t hear the roaring engine so in the video to me the speed looks much less specatacular because the other „parts“ of the acceleration like engine noise and maybe shifting are missing. Having just the visual experience in the beginning to me felt very funny.
A very realistic viewpoint of electrified motorcycles. The take aways are fun to ride (WOW factor), a thrifty alternative to "refuel" compared to ICE bikes. The negatives that you clearly explained is limited range and a very expensive buy-in. To put the bikes size in perspective You look very tall next to the bike. Thank you for the review.
Hi Lea. Greetings from Oz. So . . . not cheap and a little heavy. But brilliant performance ! When I can pull into a service station and 'swap-and-go' the battery, electric bikes will be useful. Sitting around for and hour or two is enough to put me off. Thanks for the review.
Thank you Lea for the great review. I am with you on the idea they need to add more range and maybe faster charging times. I am very interested in electric bicycles though. Something to zip around town. I am seeing more and more of them here where I live.
We have 2 ebikes. Love them. Sold our motorcycle. Much easier to use the ebikes in town. We are 67/68 yo. Saddle bags are handy. Went shopping today. Brought home 10 lbs of potatoes, a 6 lb turkey, crakers, cookies, roast, 3 yams, loaf of bread, and other sundry items. Plus got exercise.
Yes I am thinking about getting one too - where I live is just so far from town that it doesn’t really make sense to go with a normal bicycle - but with an electric one being a bit faster it probably would!
Thanks Lea, great video as usual. I'm really keen for electric motorbikes to gain greater range - one of the reasons I ride bikes is for the exhilarating performance so the fantastic acceleration and torque of an electric motor could easily make my KTM 1290 redundant ! But the range needs to be greater, I often do 500Km days in Europe and charging 5 times isn't something I'd do, each day, just not practical but I'm looking forward to the day I can get 250Km from a single charge, that would be the tipping point for me. I think most hotels would also need to provide many charging points too, or you would need to either arrive fully charged or the first stop in the morning would need to be a charger. The days of free charging at somebody's home or small business will cease once the new cost of electricity is appreciated. Danke sehr, sichere Reise ! 🙂
Hi Lea! Great review from someone with tons of real world experience. I seriously looked at Zeros when I was looking to start riding again four years ago. I watched about 1,000 TH-cam videos and decided it was not a fit for me. Too much money and too much range anxiety. I can't imagine being on a road trip on one. It's still way too early in the game for this technology, it does have it's niche though. Thanks for this review! 👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎😎
I believe it's not helpfull to watch Videos. You should just do it!! Compared with watching porn Videos and having the first real sex. What a difference! After first real experience, you would never go back to only watching. Doing is the adventure - and that's what we are looking for 😀
I know, at top of the Pass Großglockner, there is a charging station. So, don't believe, Infrastruktur isn't enough. I made many long distance trips and found always a charging station. Supported by App, because charging stations are very small, you can easily oversee them.
I do long trips on electric motorcycles since 5 years ago, and with a bit of planning the trips can be really exciting and very enriching experiences. Of course it is not suitable if you are in a hurry. But 600 km a day on secondary roads is what I usually do on my trips. You can check on my channel if you are curious about long trips with electric motorcycles
And also a question for your live chat. When you go on longer trips , do you plan for every day where to stop and stay , or only have some hold points for certain days?
@@Got2Go I drove my friends Livewire. It was awesome! My friend had bikes all his life this is his 41st and it’s part of his current collection of 4 bikes in his garage. He claims that it’s his best bike ever!
Excellent review Lea..explained perfectly about the controls systems it's ok for short Distances until they sort battery compatibility for longer travel..but for me ..Still petrol powered bikes 🏍..thank you see ya soon next Thursday evening cheers 🏍👍
Great review. Indeed, they’re on the right track but they’re not there yet; for me at least. Range is too low; I want 300 km at least (200-250 km if I can reload within 10 minutes). Reloading times are much too long and there are not enough charging stations. You can’t make longer rides if you have to wait an hour for it to recharge. How many times can the battery be reloaded. What are the costs of a new one? Battery problems in winter; range goes down. Too expensive to buy. It’s called belt drive 😋 Hydrogen driven motorcycles are another possibility. Kawasaki has the technology for use in combustion engines.
Thanks for the very good Zero review Lea. Obviously the EV revolution is upon us and we have embrace it ,if for no better reason than saving the planet. I like the Zero, it’s a good looking bike. The issues of high price and range will be solved I think in the near future when more people start buying, and technology produces better batteries. My biggest concern at present is the fact that because the bikes are virtually silent, they are even more invisible to motorists who now will not hear or see the rider. Did you have any issues during your three days ? Cheers and stay safe Lea. Peace. Dan ✌️🏍🇨🇦
I actually didn’t - and I don’t know how much people in cars or trucks that have music on or where people talk on the microphone during driving hear motorcyclists. I don’t think that much to be honest. And I guess there could as well be a solution like many of the electric cars suggested with having fake noises. I am very curious where this all goes and am sure this was not the last e-motorcycle review here for the next years.
@@Got2Go Hey Lea. Just noticed you are closing in on 100k subs. Congrats 👍. In my opinion, it’s long overdue and worth a celebration, even though most of us will have to toast you from afar. ✌️
Hi Lea. I have a questions for next Thursday... do you plan your routes using route-planning software and then upload to your sat nav? Or do you just type a location into the nav and let it take you there? Or maybe a combination of both? Or maybe you use old-school paper maps? Would love to know how you do your route planning. Thanks! 😉👍
Biggest downers with electric. 1. Electric cost comparable to gas when they decide to start making you pay. (US) 2. More stops 3. Wait time charging. 4. Belt drive change isn't cheap. $500
Belt drive for zeros are less than 300 euros. I have 2 Zeros and I have changed the belt twice, once each 88.000 km. I'd say it is very cheap compared to chain+sprocket
Ah very nice, thank you for this experience! Yes, people use to forget that chains are pretty expensive parts too! Here in Europe the electric cost if you charge it at home is MUCH cheaper than gas - just for a comparison, I now pay 80 euros for my whole household per month (with having lots of things like my computers and hard disc drives plugged in and running basically 24/7) and I am getting sustainable energy - so I am basically on the most expensive contract there is.
@@DanielMonteroElectraveler Thanks Daniel. What concerns me is that all new technology that is pushed by an agenda, is cheap at first to draw you in. They gave away rebates in California for solar panels in the beginning, and now they are charging 100 dollar tax per month for those with solar for grid access, and have rolled back the rebates. They are also already asking people not to charge during peak times. More inconveniences. Also, to charge in the US, is comparable in cost to gas. And nobody here is giving away free charges from their homes. Much different than in Europe, but a sign of things to come in Europe, once they have coerced everybody off of gas. Think too of an urban setting, where you need to charge. It can be dangerous and you are much less likely to get a free charge. The countryside is different, and people are much more friendly.
Hi. I've been riding for over forty years now and the electric bike doesn't really apeal to me. What's putting me off is the distance you can travel before charging and the time it takes to charge. Maybe if I was only riding in my local area it would be OK but it's a lot of money to start with. Enjoyed your video which wall really informative 👍
Lea Great video Lady! Yes, The mileage needs to increase and the charge time needs to be shorter. The tech for electric bikes is ok for commuting but for touring not so much. The bikes are also too expensive for the riding time. FortNine hit the nail on the head. The electric bike market is all wrong right now. Instead o performance bikes the world is looking for inner city electric bikes that can be folded and taken into elevators and stored in your room. My 2022 Triumph Tiger GT explorer is right around the corner. I'm trading my brand new 2021 for the new one. Two dozen roses for you beautiful Lady! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Oh very nice, congrats to the new bike when you get it!! I think the problem is more that the battery capacity dictates a bit which audience to target - and as long as it is like this it makes more sense to target the city crowds with inventions that are as flexible as possible. So we will see what the future brings - I am curious like always!
Great information! Thanks Lea! It's a good idea for a commuter bike but I don't think it would be great for adventure trips or long riding trips because of the limited range of the bike. Plus I don't think you can enjoy your ride if you're always stressing to find a place to charge (especially here in the US where some roads would go miles without any civilization around). The time it takes to charge is also a factor. Ride safe!
I saw one of their earlier models a few years ago and the lack of sound was spooky. I have an Aprilia Mana which does not have clutch and the styling of this model is very similar to my Aprilia and weight distribution similar. Range is an issue with these I think for travel, but I would not mind one of these. Nice review.
Energy bill is high in Europe like 400 euro a month so charging will add to that cost quite a bit...+200, +300? Also, on Maint, everything is cheaper until you have to change the battery which will be probably half the cost of the motorcycle...
400??? Wtf 😂😂😂 do you live in a castle or what??? OMG. Glad you can spend such amount of bill on energy power although, 100% sure average bill is more about 70-100€.
@@Got2Go in Brussels, Belgium. Big change from USA 😂 where everything is much cheaper. Gas, electric, water, and motorcycles and everything else. Keep up the good videos! Thanks
Danke. Tschuss.
Unfortunately Zero doesn’t take trade ins. I tried to buy one 3 years ago but they wouldn’t take my BMW S1000rr. I’m kind of glad they didn’t because the range for electric bikes just isn’t here yet.
Hi Lea, good review of the Zero e bike. I’m curious about these bikes as they are probably the future, hopefully not mine though , petrol power will probably see me out. I would expect one to go well as electric motors have big torque, but does it have any soul? Currently we have the choice of several engine configurations with different power characteristics which give a different riding experience. Did you not find the e bike a little sterile?
Hi dear Lea. It was interesting, thank you. Currently, the Ukrainian war, the price of electricity is rising. Will this be beneficial? Free charging with friends .... if there will be many bikes, then no one will give charging for free. Range of 100 to 200km is short. On the way to the office it is many many expensive bike. The scooter is more convenient and 5 times cheaper. Overnight charging time, yes OK. Charging during the trip is a long time. It needs to be improved. How expensive is it to replace the battery in the bike and for how long is it necessary to replace it? The classic bike or scooter is still more advantageous.
Hello Lea, yes I'm with you at the moment the range isn't enough to consider on other than as a commuter bike, I know it would be difficult because of weight limitations, but a hybrid system similar to the set up in cars could work well for certain circumstances, one thing you didn't mention do you get any regeneration under braking and deceleration ? Thank you.
I have to admit that I don’t really know what your questions means, I guess my English is too bad (or I just don’t know the right terms regarding the bike, as you might have noticed during the video 😂). What do you mean with regeneration?
@@Got2Go Sorry Lea ,your English is very very good, brake regeneration is when the energy used to brake is instead put back by reverse charge back into the battery giving you a little more battery life, it is basically how a self charging hybrid works to capture lost energy, just didn't know if the Zero had that inbuilt into the system.
I really enjoyed your review Lea. You covered a lot of the concerns that I think riders would raise. However, I have one question. Did you feel unsafe with it being a silent bike? I find having an engine sound keeps pedestrians, animals and vehicles alert to your presence, thus keeping you safe. Without this, I wonder if it feels less safe? Ken
I was also riding electric motorcycle. Nice. But one more important point from my view which is nobody(walking person or even another motorcyclist) have no attention about our vehicle. Because of silent riding...It's so dangerous i think so..
A welcome echoes in an extensive clear and sandy strip, a slight ripple defines the border between the sea and the coast. In an inviting blue... Slight shadows are projected on the waters, clouds and some seagulls wave and aimlessly rock the time, a low vegetation closely follows this mantle of sand. Surfboards await better waves, for now they wander in the tunnels of dreams. Kalifornien, Kamerun, Brazil, even England, are in a single country, you just need to be European, without a passport to enjoy unforgettable, simple moments, being yourself and letting go, and preferably in a two-wheeled and electric vehicle, only the symphony of Nature is present, simplicity is its true richness and seduces us in every aspect and sense.
Nice making videos I enjoying a lot I like e bikes but they have big weak point we can't carry and save electric for long tour or trips and recharging pumps are not available in every plces we need to work on this thing and other points we see in e bikes better then petrol bike like a light weight and easy to use and cheap traveling and no noise I like these things in e bike and for ur videos❤😇👍
I like the colour and it’s a good looking bike if you can keep your eyes off the battery which is ugly but at least we have Lea hosting which restores equilibrium. Internal combustion engines are ridiculously thermodynamically inefficient and have so little torque compared to electric motors that they require a gearbox. That said, I enjoy changing gear and although my car is automatic I wouldn’t consider an automatic petrol driven motorcycle because some of the fun would be gone as would the character and soul of the beating vibrating heart beneath you by going electric. Range is still an issue on electric cars which have more space to store the battery compared to two wheels, and not all of us have the personality to charm people into giving us free power! Neither will the current tax advantages of electric vehicles last forever, here in the UK fuel is heavily taxed and the Government will have to find alternative revenue as petrol consumption decreases. So I see the obvious advantages including less pollution of going electric in towns and big cities (but don’t forget the dust from your tyres and brakes which still polllute!) but an electric motorcycle is not for this ⛽petrolhead.
We need better battery technology. I belive it would take quite many years before we kan have 100 kilometres more range, with the same battery size and weight as now
20,000 does not sound like a lot, it IS a lot!!!! Why is it this expensive when compared to an electric car? A bike should not cost 3/4 the price of a car...
I have actually no clue what electric cars are - but I always thought they are even more expensive? But I guess it is because the batteries are the most expensive parts of these things.
Saludos Lea !!
Nice looking motorcycle..but like all electric machines... Expensive to buy..and awful range....albeit improving A challenge like a world globe trotter like you.. Travel THE WORLD..on one of these !!! We await..the videos.. Stay safe
I found your comments about free electricity for the bike to be rather silly and short sighted. All energy has a cost and the fact you did not pay that cost and allowed others like the cafe owners or the artist to pay it on your behalf did not make the energy free. As electric motorcycles move from the unusual to more mainstream business owners and householders are going to become increasingly reluctant to reach into their own pockets to pay for the pleasures of others.
All the tax on gas will be put on your electric bill ! Worthless where I live in Canada . Every last place to get a charge is out of range in the wilderness roads up North between the small towns ! Less and less range after so many charge cycles then you have a few thousand dollars to spend on a new battery and a toxic waste charge to get rid of the old one . How does your nation make electricity and if every one is charging the system is going to be overloaded sooner then you think. Power rates will be raised and time of use might be restricted even more .
I have no real experience in this of course after only driving it a few days - but electric car batteries are supposed to last 20-30 years, and because the range is quite similar I would the bike expect to last the same. And that’s a time frame where I probably would have so many kilometers in the bike that I might need a new one anyways. Yes, it has still to improve on the range, but I am happy about new inventions - and it doesn’t mean like this is the future or the end of it, but maybe just the start. To me it is just not understandable how people can be so negative about new technologies like this - of course it is not perfect yet, but if nobody tries we will be stuck with being depending from oil forever - and I hope that will be not the case whatsoever. The nation I am currently living in (Switzerland) is btw nearly autonomous and gains most electricity from sustainable water energy and geothermal sources - so it is a very good example on how not to make yourself dependent of Russian or Arab oil (which my former country of residency, Germany, did big times after they closed their nuclear power plants).
E is the only future maybe hydrogen too but fossil fuel is over. I can’t afford E motorbike but if I could I would. I ride a E cycle pedal bike and normal pedal bike and have two petrol motorbikes …. E is the way.

Keep it up, stay safe and blessed
Thank you!
I’ll see you next Thursday. Ride safe and have fun. 🇺🇸
Great review, very detailed. This is going to be the future wether we like it or not but I agree the range issues need to be sorted first and price.
Great review. Like many other viewers cost and range are a concern. See you next week.
Great review on the bike. 👏👏👏👏 Right now, it’s much cheaper for me to travel on a scooter, an automatic twist and go. 😘😘😘
I love my scooter too! I have a Vespa 😍😍😍
Awesome
Thanks!
Another great video, and it seems like a nice bike, but I'm still a Tenere guy.
And I guess I am a Tenere girl!
Might be a nice challenge to go on a worldtrip with one of those!
@@Got2Go I thought an enterprising TH-camr might do just that. 😉😉
Will note that for the live chat!
Really enjoyed this one and many surprises such as weight and price 😅
I rode the Harley Livewire and its awesome! Try to get your hands on one or go to Italy and try the Energica :-)
Would like to try those for sure!!! Did you ride them? Which one did you like best?
It’s called belt drive 😋
Hydrogen driven motorcycles are another possibility. Kawasaki has the technology for use in combustion engines.
Yes I would be interested in that ones too! So interesting to see and I am curious what the future brings!
Thanks! 😉👍
That’s a good one , will put that on the list!!!
Biggest downers with electric.
1. Electric cost comparable to gas when they decide to start making you pay. (US)
2. More stops
Much different than in Europe,
but a sign of things to come in Europe,
once they have coerced everybody off of gas.
Think too of an urban setting, where you need to charge.
It can be dangerous and you are much less likely to get a free charge. The countryside is different, and people are much more friendly.
@@AllThatWasHidden in what sense you think it is dangerous to charge EVs?
@@DanielMonteroElectraveler in not so nice neighborhoods and with strangers that it would be challenging to trust
Lea
Great video Lady!
Great video! Thanks!
What type of tail bag do you use? Love your videos
It’s not a tail bag specifically for motorcycles, it’s my 35 liter Ortlieb rack pack that I always use as a travel bag.
I don’t know where you live and what energy bill you have - but mine is about 80 per month?
Thanks
Danke.

I have a question for Thursday, do you have a set equipment kit list and then just add to it depending on your destination and traveling time?
@@Got2Go Hallo Lea, er meint die Rekuperation. Bremsen durch Energierückgewinnung. Der Motor arbeitet dabei wie ein Generator.
It’s called a drive belt. 👍
How long will the batteries last before you need to change, and how much for a set of batteries.
Hallo, guten Morgen, Lea, ich hoffe, es geht dir gut.

@@Got2Go I strongly hope we made it in future
Ich würde die Maschine sofort nehmen - allerdings vorher noch die Farbe abkratzen und Dir schenken! ;-)
😂😂😂 also ich finde sie steht mir! 😍😂
Soon as possible I make my own comments, but for now I which the best Easter holidays with your loved ones. 🐇🐣
Not to keen on the electric bikes but I suppose they are the future. I am 74 now, so I suppose it will not be a problem for me.
