  • Big changes on our little farm; we're planting an apple orchard!! I wanted to give you a behind the scenes peak of what's happening as we close up the year and get ready for spring. I'm so excited to have different varieties of apples to bake with, eat and maybe make some fresh juice or cider with.
    All my APPLE Recipes: preppykitchen.com/search/apple
Let me know what I NEED to plant on the homestead next! There's a lot of work to do but I'm so excited to have my own kitchen garden with fresh veggies and herbs.

If there's a farm stand, you should get a license to sell canned goods. Make canned apple pie filling and apple butter to sell alongside your freshly-baked pies. Encourage pre-orders for the holidays!

We live among many apple farms and we pick bushels of them each fall. My family’s all time favorite apple treat is apple butter. We always save one warm jar out to eat on home made buttermilk biscuits while the rest are processing.
My kids are all grown but will come spend an entire weekend with me picking and putting up apples.
In addition to apple butter we make apple sauce, apple juice, dehydrated apple rings (my grand babies’ favorite), apple cider vinegar and apple skin powder (which we use for making our own instant oatmeal jars throughout the year)
We’ve had Apple Weekend since the kids were little and now we get to enjoy it with a new generation. Speaking of which my daughter introduced us to Apple Cider Caramels (It’s on the KAF website) LOVE THEM!!!

This is so exciting! You could make apple butter with all those apples! The process requires a lot of fresh apples for a surprisingly small yield but it’s so delicious, trendy and can be region specific for an orchard like yours, at least from a marketing standpoint

All of this looks unbelievably amazing!😄😍😋 I love farmlands and green hills. I grew up surrounded by green in Europe, but now here in South America in a big city with over a decade of drought, I live every time we leave the city and there's a bit more green. I had a little apple tree myself for my birth back in Germany, but now it barely grows apples anymore. I hope it's still there though. Having an entire orchard sounds like a dreeaam. If tickets didn't cost so much, I'd drop by for a hello, but that will have to wait a few years. I rarely do things with apples, I'm more specialized in cookies and cakes, but apple strudel, apple pie, homemade apple sauce/juice, baked apples come to mind. French apple tart too, it's a delish. Wishing you all the luck in the world with your new surroundings.💗💗💗

I make apple sauce. It takes no time at all. Just slice up peeled apples, place in a saute pan with a little water and a squeeze of lemon. Cook down, and mush with a fork. You can add sugar and/or cinnamon if you like. I eat it warm, but room temp or cold is fine as well. It's so GOOD!!

I make a German apple cider. Take your cinnamon, cloves, and allspice, put them in a cheese cloth bag tied with food grade string. Then you wash and slice an orange or two and float them in the cinder. I like using an orange with either a lemon or lime. I heat it on low in the crockpot for 2 hours before taking out the spices and fruit. You can eat the fruit after they cool down a little bit. 💚💚💚💚

Cover the apple in light Carmel and dip in red sugar. Next put a hole in the side and stick an open bottle of apple crown royal to let it soak in. Wrap the whole thing up, place a bow and you have party favors for the holidays. I saw this on a website and it looked good.

Congratulations on your new apple orchard. Just wish there was a farm stand next door to me. I live in the city (San Francisco) and we have a farmer's market near me on Sundays but it's still not as fresh as a farmers market near the actual farm. I remember shopping at a farmer's market on the way to Healdsburg and the way home. (We went there every weekend and for two months during the summer). The fruit was spectacular. People today who only shop in the grocery store have no idea what the true taste of vegetables and fruits are. Corn so fresh you barely cook it, peaches with juice running down your arm, and on and on. Best of luck with your new farm. You seem so enthusiastic and happy! 🍎🍏🍎🍏

Pickled crab apples or small sour apples are ideal for canning and can be used many different ways including as a dessert with heavy cream. Recipes typically include ground cloves, sugar and cinnamon. When I was young, decades ago most farms in colder climates all canned sour apples for special occasions such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was just something everybody did. We always called them, Pickled Crabapples and they were a staple. There are still some good recipes online.

You can "Can" the apples to have on hand for all of your goodies that you bake. I grew up in Idaho and was lucky enough one year "in my youth" to pick apples on an orchard in Washington State. You are going to have lots of fun with all those apples, so I would think that by canning them you could also sell them at your little market. I wish i lived close enough to you so that I could come and visit.....maybe I'll put that on my "bucket list"! I love watching all of your video's and I look forward to seeing what you plan to do with "all those apples"!

Pulse fruit in a food processor until they look like (sweet pickle) relish, let it sit at least overnight so flavors can meld and Viola... amazing tart and sweet side dish. Also freezes.

Hi John, unbelievable. I don‘t know if there are differences in apples between the US and Germany but I know important information : If you get freezy nights during blossom period the farmers here sprinkle the blossoms with water to freeze them. The blossom freezes and will continue to bloom instead of dying. I can imagine this climate could happen there too. wishing you big luck with your first apple havest season 🇩🇪Regards Stefanie

    Awww mini's❤
I was kinda sad when you said in a previous video that you weren't horse people. Ive has or been involved with horses since I was a little girl. A beautiful farm like yours needed a few beautiful horses. Once you get the horse bug you'll always have it. And horses are like tattoos you'll always want to add more. Lol
I dont have any tattoos but Ive seen and heard.
Everything on your farm is perfect but it had to have been a big culture shock coming from sunny Cali to 4 season New England. I love the 4 season's here in Wisconsin.

I'm so excited for you guys. What an adventure. When Im next in the Northeast I'll be stopping by your farm stand. I love farm stands anyway, and its being yours is just icing on the apple. Have you been taking winter driving lessons? You should. Driving in snow and on ice requires some practice. This is the voice of experience. I grew up in NYC, but didn't drive till i moved to Rochester. Surprise weather fun.

I absolutely love these videos! I am so happy for you and your family. We have a half acre so I have a garden, fruit trees, some chickens, and a dog. I am jealous of the mini ponies and baby goats ❤️.

We have so much goals and desires in common. I love seeing your progress ❤️!! You need a greenhouse & new barn. If nothing else.. . somewhere to sit in the sun with the kids. I'd love to see a savory dish with apples, also a breakfast dish with a tart apple. Dehydrate apple chips for snaking. Look into a natural essential oil for disease & pests for summer spraying. I'm sure looking forward to how the orchard progresses & your bountiful harvest. 🍎
