Good looking grass for sure. We are in our rainy season as well. I see guys cutting and then wrapping it in plastic. I have to have 5 dry days as well. Better to wait than risk the cutting, even if the hay is not perfect, for sure.
I think we are going to be fine, our hay is at least a month away. Our grass seedlings are about 3 inches tall.

The test plot is doing so well it’s got me excited to cut…having to show some restraint, LOL. In the next few days it’s “supposed” to dry up for about 4 days in a row. I’d prefer 5 nice days with the lower temps we are having, for dry-down. Only way to make hay now is to make baleage…wrap it. We’ve never be interested in baleage, our customers want dry hay.
I’ve still not went with gathering wheels just yet. The price from other dealers is just too much for our farm budget for something I’m gonna have to cut and modify, that’s not a good direct fit for the price.
Hope your grass grows crazy good! Thanks a bundle!

@8thdaychronicles not interested in wrapped hay either. Good luck with the gathering wheels, I guess I was the guinea pig. It's still not what a full-size baler would provide.

@@tommywise1702 I still have hopes some ag company will make a better direct fit for gathering wheels for these small balers. I am timid about paying $600 (plus probably $50 or more shipping) for a set from Keno that I'm gonna probably have to cut, weld, chop on to make them work off my lower 3-point links. Just too much $$$ for something that may or may not work. TTD had them for $400...Keno is the only place I know of that still sells them and they are $600 a set there. Out of my price range when I still have to modify them to work.

Have you cut hay since you added the height to your Farm-Maxx 135? I am curious if the mower does at good job with the spacers added. Thanks for all the great videos

Thank you for the kind words! Yes....we cut last season with the spacers added to raise our cut height to about 3 3/4 to 4 inches. The spacers work great, no problems at all. And the benefit of a higher cut height to avoid cutting into the crowns of legumes and bunch grasses resulted in better, faster regrowth than we have ever had too. A taller stubble height has lots of benefits.

Thanks for the info! I am looking at a Farm-Maxx 185H. My only worry was the low cutting height. I lived in WV. I saw your videos and your farm is laid out real similar to mine so I was interested in your journey. I believe I will ditch my NH 450 sickle and go with the Farm-Maxx drum! Thanks again

@@jeffderenberger4100 Yes, at the factory cut height setting, a drum mower indeed cuts ~very~ low, too close for vigorous regrowth, IMO. Like at 1 1/2" close. Too low for me. I bought the cut height lift kit with my drum mower and it wasnt too bad to add. We have a video on our channel about adding that kit if you look for it. If I was buying a new drum mower, I wouldnt consider buying without buying the cut height lift kit to go with it...just personal opinion. Good luck and keep us updated on how it goes!

Thanks, Jimmy! I pray you guys are doing well!
Most of the test plot is about waist height, some a tad more, some a tad less.

@8thdaychronicles that's awesome nice and thick looking too. Praying for good weather for you. I'm planning on making first cutting in a couple weeks
