    I'm not a gunsmith but I know enough that I get a lot of friends that bring stuff to me.
    Seems to me a lot of lower-cost guns need a little bit of work like that, and it makes sense because they have to save money somewhere.
    I remember someone brought me a Hi Point C9 once and I had never messed with one but heard all the horror stories.
    Of course "it jammed all the time" which is why I told him Id look at it.
    The running surfaces of the slide were still rough and painted, and you can see where the use had caused pieces of paint to fleck off.
    Hell, after sanding everything down smooth and then polishing it, you can mag dump that thing all day long without an issue.
    I think Rock Island is doing the gun community a service putting these good quality 1911's out there at that price.
    I love the Western theme to your video, it's different.

    I enjoy it every time, for the past few years I watched it again and again. I love the 1911 and finally I'm getting the 3.5 in barrel, I do have a couple full size ones but I had my eyes on a compact. Great video!!

    I've always loved 1911's and when I had a chance to jump on this compact version I've carried it ever since...great shooting gun and accurate shooter for its size

      I had one. Every bit as good as my colt m1991a1 compact. Sold it to a friend dire need. I will buy another and highly recommend it. It was 315 bucks new out the door back then.

      I now have 3 RIA 1911 compacts. Shoots as good as the Kimber ultra carry 2 I gave my son . Incredibly accurate and joy to shoot. EDC for last 6 months. Get one! You will not be disappointed!

    I was lucky. Mine ran great right out of the box. The more I shoot it, the better it runs. I did put some black rubber grips on it that cost $11.00. Mine didn't have the gaudy logo on the side. Excellent video.

      recently bought a Century Arms Centurian 12 ga. Shotgun that barely functioned out of the box spankin' new . Mag. In Turkey . Amazed at how much FILTH was inside ( new gun ) , a little carb cleaner , a little CLP , dab or two of lithium grease .....
      10 rounds like butter .
      EVERY TIME .

    Slicked my " plain Jane " , blasted it for Titanium self lubing Dura Coat , homemade trigger job , Hogue grips , polished it's innards . Safariland CLP & a Galco IWB suede holster . My very favorite EDC , except for the dog days of summer .

      Hi Dynamo, I purchased mine at a gun shop and it hung up so bad that it was ridiculous ! The shop had a gunsmith and he said I didn't know how to properly lubricate this pistol (even tho I had one in VN). That's why I tore it down and polished the surfaces and bingo, not a hangup after that. Rick

  • @rocnnrollbus

    I sanded down/polished my surfaces after my 1911 compact hung up at the range. Hasn't hung up since. Did the same thing to my Glock (feeder ramp and slide). Perfect!

      Eric Jones if you get hang ups replace the magazine first The.factory 7 round mag with plastic base that come with it are defective sometimes.. . lots of people have had this problem.

  • @usualsuspect5173
    @usualsuspect5173 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Replace the recoil spring with a Wilson combat spring and save your labor unless the spring doesn't do it ...the factory springs can be lame

  • @agoogleaccount2861
    @agoogleaccount2861 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Only hang ups i had were due to a junk factory mag .. Replaced that junk mag with flush fit 7 rounders from kimber and chip mcormick . no problems whatsoever since regardless of ammo brand ..even steel case runs fine

    I've heard that this RIA with 3.5" barrel doesn't feed 230GRN ammo well and you should use something lighter, like 185GRN or lower. Is this true? Have you had any issue with your RIA Compact cycling regular 230 GRN FMJ ball ammo? Many thanks!

    • @skycamproductions
      @skycamproductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello John, I run commercial rounds and hand loads in both 230 and 200 thru my 3.5" RIA without a hitch. I've switched to hand loading 200s in both ACP and Colt .45, after all its hard to get reloading supplies these days and have no issues with either load. Having smoothed out the inner mechanism and the feed ramp of my RIA nothing hangs up. The magazine that came with the gun works smoothly too. Thanks, Rick

    Just got me one of these. I traded in my Glock 21 .45 Auto because I wanted the beavertail grip, safety and external hammer for conceal carry. As a Missourian I'm happy our state government is very 2nd minded and I feel for you in the insane asylum called California. Nice nod to Grover Cleveland-I'm hoping if the next election isn't stolen we'll have our second non-consecutive term President instead of our current asshat. My only fear is the powers that be want Newsom to be next which will be apocalyptic.

    Let me go ahead and buy this gun. Now let me change most of the things about the gun that make this gun the gun I bought. Instead, I could have bought another, nicer type of gun, but I’d rather make this one look crappier instead.

      It actually doesn't cost much to sand and polish the parts and as a gun owner you'll always be taking the gun apart and cleaning it up. My dad has the same gun but his didn't have any issues like this and I replaced the grips and magazine base with custom 3d printed parts I designed by myself along with my resin printer. It's a cheap gun that only needed some polishing on the internals if it has issues and even that is something you can do at home and being able to fix your own gun is fun. You're free to buy wilson combat or other more expensive brands but a cheap gun that can easily be fixed at home is actually great for the pruce point plus it's actually a good shooter.
